Answer: Usually, phasers/disrupters do not work at warp speeds, due to the beams travelling at light speed, therefore the firing ship would run into its own beam. Torpedoes can be fired at warp which is what the Scimitar appeared to be firing. That said, there have been several instances of phasers fired at warp (the Nebula-class ship/Prometheus chase in "Message in a Bottle" for example).
Question: I still don't know whether Leeloo is human or an alien. Can anyone explain her story for me?
Answer: Leeloo was originally human in some form; the Supreme Being label indicates that she's just an extremely advanced human. Her essence has resided on Earth for many thousands of years, but the Mondoshawans (aliens) remove her for safekeeping. She is reconstructed from the few cells remaining in the statue from the alien wreckage.
Answer: She's a supreme being who isn't so much alien but more of an evolved hybrid of divine and human. She protects not just Earth but the whole universe. She is also a weapon who seems to be within the Mondeshewans control and care, as shown in the first Egypt scene, and they are alien. She is also linked to Earth, meaning she is meant to 'go off' on Earth in the temple specifically thus is created in our likeness.
Question: How did Don Rafael make the connection that Alejandro was the new Zorro?
Answer: He recognized that Bernardo was really Diego de la Vega and he realized that the young Zorro he had seen earlier could not have been Don Diego. He then deduced that the new Zorro looked similar to Don Alejandro (and was probably warned by Captain Love that Don Alejandro was hiding someting) and made the decision.
Question: What was the purpose of Berlin? What she planted to stage the rape? Or, was she really trying to get revenge? What did the postcard mean at the end of the movie in the money case?
Answer: I believe that she was a plot device to make sure David Gale had nothing to lose by the end of the movie. She then may have felt guilty about casual sex, and tried to get back at Gale. She then later felt guilty about the whole charade, and wrote him a postcard admitting what she had done. Then the postcard is given to the ex-wife to show he was innocent of rape.
David had asked Bitsy and, presumably, Dusty, to preserve his son's memory of him. So they/he/she forwarded the postcard from Berlin so his ex would know he was innocent of the rape charge. Along with money for his son.
Answer: I think David's wife was having an affair and wanted out of the marriage. She paid Berlin to seduce David and accuse him of rape.
Answer: We also think Berlin was hired by the wife. She has always said that it was not about the grades.
Question: What is the song playing during the mattress sliding scene?
Answer: The song you are referring to is "Let's Bounce," recorded by Disney Channel star Christy Carlson Romano, who played Ren Stevens in "Even Stevens."
Question: Who did the voice of Agent Bork.
Answer: According to imdb.com, Greg Kinnear did.
Question: Why was Cardinal Richelieu's costume changed from red to purple?
Answer: Red is the "color" of the holy church; purple is the "color" of royalty. Richelieu aspired to royalty, not piety.
Question: Who are the aliens that were attacked by the Army? Do they have any connection to Duddits or Mr Gray?
Answer: They are the same species as Mr Gray - note that Morgan Freeman's description of their appearance is the same as the form Mr Gray took before possesing Jonesey. As to how Mr Gray got so far away from the other aliens, or why they were mowed down while he was almost unstoppable is anyone's guess - this movie is a mess.
Question: During the scene when Jesus is being crucified he looks towards "Heaven" and asks something like "why have you forsaken me?" What does he really say and does this mean to imply that even Jesus questions God at times?
Answer: Even in his anguish, Jesus still resorted to Scripture to fight his battle, and Psalm 22 is a messianic text which depicts the suffering of the Messiah.
Answer: According to the King James version of the bible, Jesus cried from the cross "My God, why hast thou forsaken me?" Most people believe he cried these words in desperation and anguish, others who study Aramaic believe he meant it as an understanding exclamation (i.e. he's grasping that it's his destiny).
Question: Why were the enforcers called sandmen?
Answer: In popular American lore, the Sandman is responsible for putting sand over your eyes to make you go to sleep. In this context the "sleep" is a euphemism for death, and the enforcers are responsible for making sure that everyone dies on time.
Question: Not directly related to the film, but to Eminem's song "Sing for the Moment". At one point he says "you're full of sh*t too Guererra, that was a fist that hit you". Who is Guererra?
Answer: In June 2000, Eminem got in trouble for having a gun at a nightclub. John Guererra was a bouncer at the club that Eminem thought kissed his (then) wife. Guererra alledged that Eminem pistol-whipped him, but Eminem continues to deny the charges.
Question: At the beginning of the film, Will Graham discovered that Hannibal Lecter was the murderer he had been searching for. How was he able to do this? All he did was open a book and the word 'Sweet Bread' appeared on a page. Could some explain this to me?
Answer: The victims had particular body parts removed. Will saw recipes in the book belonging to Lecter for those particular body parts and made a leap of intuition.
Answer: It is revealed through a conversation between Will and Hannibal that Will already suspected Hannibal but had failed to act on his intuition. This combined with the recipes Will sees, that correspond with the missing body parts, highlighted in Hannibal's cookbook and the penny drops.
Answer: "Sweetbreads" is an organ meat (like kidney or liver)...he wrote it in the book as he most likely cooked it.
Answer: When Lecter and Graham were talking at Lecter's desk, Will went into a story about how his son's grandpa was showing him how to carve a chicken. When he showed him a part on the back that he referred to as "oysters" it caught his attention because he hadn't heard that before. Now a few moments later he finds the cookbook which referred to other parts of animals that can be used to make what they called "sweetbread." From the previous conversation at the desk it was safe to say Will was already somewhat suspicious of Lecter because of his analysis.
Question: Before the "Whoo Hoo" song in the House of Blue Leaves the group sang another song. It's not in the soundtrack. What's its title?
Answer: 'I'm Blue' or 'I walk like Jayne Mansfield'.
Question: A question for all the extended DVDs. Why does Viggo Mortenson not do commentary with the rest of the cast? Is he opposed to it, or simply could not make it? I missed his presence on the disc and was also wondering if he'd be speaking on the Return Of The King DVD.
Answer: Since he does do the interviews about the film, I don't believe he's opposed to commentaries. And since he was really the only one working on films at the time the commentaries would have been recorded (Hidalgo especially), it's possible that he simply couldn't be there. Other cast members were working on films also, but Viggo was the only one starring in his, and probably couldn't take the time.
Question: In the card room, in the back of the bar, what exactly does Carter say after telling his cousin that the only reason he hasn't busted him is because he is his cousin?
Answer: Because it would kill Aunt Bootsie.
Question: On IMDB it says in this film there are some INTENTIONAL continuity errors. Does anyone know any of the intentional errors, perhaps along with a timecode?
Chosen answer: The kid points them out in the film, in order to convince Arnold's character that he inhabits movieland. Also, after Arnold's character falls into the tar pit he is able to completely wipe himself clean, an obvious intentional continuity error.
Question: After escaping in the pod, Threepio says, "That's funny; the damage doesn't look as bad out here." But they're too far away to see the ship they were in; all they can see is the Imperial Star Destroyer that "swallowed" their ship up. Was this a humorous character-mistake by Lucas to show how erroneous Threepio can often be? Or could Threepio actually see the small ship the rebels were in (hardly looks possible, given the shot shown when he says it)?
Chosen answer: Well, he is an android, and I doubt the designers would be satisfied at giving him just normal human vision. He probably has some sort of optical enhancements, which would be pretty necessary for any sort of technical work, and he does say that he's done that in the past.
