Question: How come in First Blood, Rambo went out of his way to subdue his enemies non-lethally like Batman, but in the sequels he just killed everyone?

MikeH

Chosen answer: Probably because the first film is set in the United States, and Rambo's opponents are non-military, but the sequels are set in Asia and the opponents are "foreign" (mostly Soviet) soldiers.

Question: Everyone says Rambo only kills one person in First Blood. But I watched it a few months ago, and I'm sure I remember him blowing up some police cars in a chase. What happened there?

MikeH

Chosen answer: He is never shown on camera to definitely kill more than one person (the shooter in the helicopter); the police cars flip over and crash, but the people inside are not shown to be dead, so it is possible they survived.

Twotall

Question: What is Shane's quote in the last huddle? Something like pain is temporary...glory lasts forever"?

Answer: "Pain heals, chicks dig scars, glory lasts forever."

Chosen answer: He's too much of a bumbler and too cheery (for example when he tells the crew "good morning" and they wanted to know why it's so good.) They probably also see him as a fool and brown-noser since he's always trying to make Hook happy. To the crew he's just Hook's assistant and not a real pirate at heart.

Bishop73

Chosen answer: Vivo V3.

Question: Why did Bruce Wayne die when Barry Allen saved his mother? How come the killer didn't kill Bruce's parents?

Answer: When you break the sound barrier, there's a sonic boom. When you break the time barrier, there's a temporal boom. Barry changed 3 things, Bruce's death, Superman's crash, and the Green Ring election.

Answer: It's unknown how the dog got into the treehouse. After the boys put their hands on top of each others, the dog puts his paw on and Rudy questions how the dog got in with none of the boys being able to give an answer.

Chosen answer: Obviously it is carried up there by one of the kids.

Question: Why didn't Zod just terraform a different planet, like Jupiter? Why did he have to choose Earth?

Answer: For one, Jupiter is a gaseous planet with no rocky surface, and cannot be terraformed into a terrestrial world. To sustain life, a rocky planet must be in the habitable zone of its host star and have liquid water, an atmosphere, and so on. Zod chose Earth because he trailed Superman there, and also, because it is already habitable. He only needs to adapt it to his specific conditions.

raywest

Answer: The codex and scout ship with the genesis chamber were already on Earth as well as Zod wanted revenge on Jor-El and he doesn't care about humans so he had no interest in going off to another planet.

Question: When Heather is counting the children it appears to me that she counts herself twice as number 3 and 11 - am I correct?

Answer: She does indeed...she counts herself as "3" in the wide shot, and in the shot from inside the van, right after she counts the neighbor kid as Kevin, one can see her tap her own head again and say "11". It's a continuity error (yet still, for some reason, the correct number of kids).

Question: Why did Matt save Andrew's abusive father?

Answer: Because he was a human being and Andrew was attempting to murder him in cold blood.

BaconIsMyBFF

Question: Why did Michael Douglas expect David to spend 2 hours in the back stairwell between entering the building at 8 p.m. and attacking Gweneth at 10 p.m. after the phone rings? He'd be sitting in the stairwell where anyone could see him, with or without his black ski mask.

Answer: It is unknown what Douglas' entire thinking was behind the plan, but if someone had spotted David in the stairwell, it would only help to support Douglas' alibi and point the finger at a stranger breaking into the apartment and killing his wife.

raywest

Answer: Good point. If a resident in an upscale apartment building like that were to see a suspicious-looking man loitering in the stairwell, he would tell the doorman, who would either investigate or call the police, or both.

Question: What happened to Sue at the end? Has she gone insane or there was a revenge plot from Carrie? What does the bloody arm from the hospital mean?

Answer: She had just woken up from a nightmare in which she went to Carrie's funeral. In the nightmare, as Sue is bending down to put flowers on Carrie's grave, Carrie's hand comes out of the ground and grabs Sue's arm.

Question: I can't really tell who's who, but I remember one of the apes said not to tell Caesar about the gun they found. I'm certain it was Caesar who found the gun. Am I missing something?

MikeH

Chosen answer: Milo found the gun, who was Caesar's son.

Question: How did Soze end up in the police station after he escaped the boat in the first place? If he had vanished after the bombing, he wouldn't have to make up the stories and he wouldn't have been identified by Kujan.

Answer: Kint/Soze ended up in the police station because he simply didn't get away in time.

Answer: Soze ended up back under arrest and for some questioning as 'Verbal Kint'. He never really vanished, he's just playing two parts/people. He really vanishes off the scene by the end of the movie after he tricks Kujan.

With the exception of what's known to have happened on the dock, the entire story is a lie told by Verbal Kint to Agent Kujon. Kujon realises this after Kint leaves the office but not in time to catch up. The entire movie is about a habitual liar making up a story about what happened on the dock. He may be Keyser Soze or an alter-ego variant but even Keysers rep is subject to question as it was told by the same liar. Verbal himself said about Keaton, "He was a grounded guy, a cop. If you think the husband did it then you're right." He was telling on himself as sociopaths will do when they think they're smarter than everyone around them.

Question: I never understood how, like in this movie, after they leave the lab of infectious viruses, does being sprayed down with hot water prevent them from being infected once they take the suit off. Can someone explain that to me?

lartaker1975

Chosen answer: They would be sprayed with an antibacterial solution, and it is to prevent any contagion clinging to the outside of the suit from being transferred from one source to another while the protective gear is being handled.

Question: In the original musical of West Side Story, the song "Officer Krupke" is sung some time after the rumble when Riff was killed. Why was it changed to before the rumble?

Answer: Actually there were a number of changes made in the movie adaptation compared to the original stage version. There were cuts, new additions, and changes to music, lyrics, dialogue, and characters. A few of the musical numbers were switched around because it was felt the storyline flowed better on screen, for different reasons. Some examples are "Gee, Officer Krupke" and "I Feel Pretty" which are cheerful, light-hearted songs and were moved to before "The Rumble", and "Cool" was moved to after "The Rumble" which gives that song's lyrics gravitas.

Super Grover

Question: Smith asks Exley if he'd be wiling to shoot a criminal in the back to prevent a lawyer getting him off. Were the police really allowed to play judge, jury and executioner in the 50s?

MikeH

Chosen answer: No they were not legally allowed to, but corrupt, rogue cops who brandished their own form of justice would do that type of thing.

Question: How could Thaddeus be convicted of the vault robbery? He didn't have means, motive, or opportunity for the crime. There wouldn't be any forensic evidence tying him to the crime.

Answer: He confessed under the pretense that he didn't want an expensive trial but really because he was in charge of the Eye all along.

Question: What evidence is there for the plausibility of hypnosis as it's portrayed in the film?

Answer: Hypnosis as seen in movies where people are put into a mindless trance and can then be controlled is impossible in real life.

raywest

Question: How did the poor street magicians manage to execute their final magic trick in NYC? If Tressler had paid in advance for the gimmicks, wouldn't he have seen to it that the trick infrastructure was dismantled after the New Orleans trick?

Answer: Thaddeus met up with Tressler in a bar after the New Orleans performance and convinced him to let the next performance to go ahead. The two make a deal that if the New York performance will go ahead, Thaddeus will debunk their tricks to expose and destroy them.
