Waldorf Salad - S2-E3

Question: Basil asks the American male guest (Mr Hamilton) if they have palm trees in California. The American replies that, "They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them." The DVD then appears to cut prematurely to the next scene. Is there a hidden or subliminal joke here that I'm missing?

Answer: A possible explanation can be found here: http://tviv.org/Fawlty_Towers/Waldorf_Salad Quote: "This is, of course, sarcasm, as southern California in general and Los Angeles in particular is famous for its palm trees".

Mortug

Question: In the last scene where Bond has finished confronting Vespers ex-boyfriend, what is Bond implying when he tells M "Congratulations you were right about Vesper". What about Vesper does Bond now see that he didn't before and M did?

jford

Chosen answer: That she really loved Bond, though he had previously refused to accept it, believing it to have been a ruse in order to acquire the money.

Question: Whilst it is obvious Bernie Mac has taken over from Bill Murray as Bosley, is he meant to be the exact same Bosley, or another? The reason I ask is because when the Bosley family and Leo are playing Cluedo, his mother says refers to someone similar to Bernie Mac's Bosley, ".a long time ago", and the camera pans up to a framed photo of Bill Murray's Bosley. Is he like an adopted member of the family or what? It is left quite ambiguously.

NatalieNinetales

Chosen answer: The implication is that the Bosleys at the very least took Bill Murray's character in/adopted him.

Answer: When the new Bosley is first introduced and talking about taking over the office, he says something like, "I hope to do a good job like cousin Bosley."

Chosen answer: Vasily Zaitsev (Jude Law) uses a 7.62 x 54mm Mosin-Nagant M91/30 rifle with a PU scope. Major König (Ed Harris) used a 7.92 x57mm Mauser Karabiner 98 K with scope. Law's scope was wrong as the model used in the film wasn't available until after the Battle of Stalingrad.

Grumpy Scot

Chosen answer: At the end of the film the girl in his car says "I thought you wanted to go to Tokyo?" to which he replies "Yeah, we will. Soon" Indicating this film took place before Tokyo Drift.

Ssiscool

Answer: In the overall timeline of all the films, the events of Tokyo Drift take place after the events of Fast and Furious 6. However, there is obviously something major involving Han coming in Fast and Furious 9 (2021) given what's seen in the trailer.

Answer: First of all, F4, F5 and F6 all take place before Tokyo Drift. In F9, it is revealed that Han has been alive this whole time and had gone into hiding after working with Mr. Nobody.

Question: I have seen the film Twilight four times now and I still don't understand why Edward doesn't just turn Bella, it is obvious that they are in love with each other (which I don't blame her) but he is still reluctant, I was just wondering why this was, because if Edward truly loved Bella he would turn her and they could truly like a very happy eternal life together.

Answer: Because Edward (and the other Cullens) are deeply moral and caring. They would never have chosen to become vampires and know the hardships that life incurs. Edward wants Bella to live her life and fully experience being human. He fears she will be cursed and lose her soul if she is turned. You do not wish that on someone you love. It would also inflict severe emotional pain on Bella's parents, who'd be losing their only child.

raywest

Answer: Edward can't read Bella's mind because she has a "mind shield." It blocks out any mental or psychic power. In the last Twilight movie, Volturi can use use their minds to bring pain to others. Bella can use that shield to block it. She learns how to protect others and herself.

Question: In the beginning of the movie, we see Cobb and Arthur get mad at their first architect for not knowing about the wool rug in Saito's "love nest." But further on when Ariadne joins up and they are hiding from the commandos from Fischer's subconscious, no one blames her for not knowing about them beforehand. Since the architect is supposed to know everything about the level she/he built, so why do they blame Nash?

Answer: The architect builds the levels, they don't populate them. Nash screwed up in a physical detail of the dream, the composition of the rug, which is the role of the architect, so he gets into trouble. Ariadne only designed the dream's architecture, the inhabitants of that dream are all formed from Fischer's subconscious and thus are not something she has any control over. Arthur was the one who was detailed to research Fischer's background, and thus should have picked up that he had been trained in the anti-intrusion tactics that manifest as the armed security force. He somehow missed it, so they get annoyed at him for putting them all in danger.

Question: In "Underworld Evolution" Tanis said (to Selene and Michael) that Viktor killed Selen's family in winter when Lucian escaped with the key from the castle. However, in this movie Viktor at the end goes into the hibernation chamber. How is this possible?

Miltonfine

Chosen answer: Victor's badly injured and needs to recover - his hibernation chamber is an obvious secure location for him to rest while he heals. He could easily emerge a short while later, once his recovery was complete, and go after Selene's family.

The Desperation Emanation - S4-E5

Question: In this episode, when Amy is waiting outside for Sheldon because she was told he wasn't home when she arrived to see him, Sheldon is coming down the stairs. As he does so, he is singing a peculiar song and skipping steps. Why is he doing this? Is there something I'm missing?

OliviaD3601

Chosen answer: Sheldon has been shown to a) be a little weird and b) like to pass his commuting time exercising his mind with brain teasers and such. The song in the episode "The Desperation Emanation" names the star systems closest to our solar system, in order, from closest to furthest away. Typically of Sheldon, if he gets it wrong, he has to start again, or it isn't right!

SexyIrishLeprechaun

Question: At the start of the film we see Keyser Soze kill Keaton and then set fire to the boat and walk away. If he has already accomplished all his goals (killing the witness and killing the 3 remaining thieves), why do we see him later as Verbal Kint in the police station? Why wouldn't Keyser Soze (a mastermind) simply have escaped into thin air after he blows up the ship?

counselor

Chosen answer: He needed to give the police SOME kind of explanation for all the violence at the harbor, or it would have become a big mystery like Jimmy Hoffa or Amelia Earhart's disappearances that people are always trying to solve, and then someone may have discovered more truth than he wanted. As Verbal he could tell a story to the police that implicated Keaton as Soze and he could disappear again.

Captain Defenestrator

Question: Why did Zeus go to the empty baseball stadium? This scene didn't really move the plot along, have I missed something?

finkemon

Chosen answer: He was directed there as part of Simon's plan. The original idea was that both Zeus and McClane were supposed to show up there, where Simon's men would take them out. As McClane disobeyed orders, leaving just Zeus to go there, Simon told his men not to shoot, as eliminating Zeus alone would simply tip McClane off that something wasn't right.

Tailkinker

Plus also without that scene we wouldn't have the car chase and McClane discovering the quarters.

Sam Montgomery

Question: How far could the rudder panel on the Titanic actually turn? Could it turn 90 degrees, or 45, or something in the middle? I'm wondering, because this could have made a difference.

Friso94

Chosen answer: The Titanic's rudder was capable of turning to about sixty degrees off the centreline, reaching that position in about six seconds from straight.

Question: I've got two questions 1)What Neytiri meant when she said that she mated with Jake before Eywa? 2) How did Tsu'tey know that Jake and Neytiri have mated?

PinkStar0000

Chosen answer: (1) Neytiri means that she has bonded with Jake in the eyes of their deity, that, by Na'vi tradition, they are effectively married. (2) Jake and Neytiri show up holding hands, and it's clear that Tsu'tey, who was already suspicious that they had an affection for each other, spots it. He's not stupid, he can work it out for himself.

Question: Why was Spock's ship carrying so much red matter? We see that a tiny drop is enough to destroy a planet, and Spock uses a similarly tiny drop to destroy the exploding star, so why would the ship carry what appears to be hundreds of thousands of that quantity?

Chosen answer: Spock's trying to stop a supernova, which is a hellishly big deal. Much better to take too much and end up not needing it, than take too little and end up failing.

Question: Dr. Grant asks Eric how he got T-Rex urine. Eric replies, "You don't want to know". How did Eric get the T-Rex urine anyway?

dollors

Answer: A video I watched speculated that Eric was making his way through the jungle and came across the Rex. It is thought that he hid and while he was hiding the Rex peed. While he was hiding he noticed that some Compies close by fled at the smell so he decided to test if they were scared of it. When he knew for sure he bottled it up.

Chosen answer: It's never explained how he got it. Any explanation the filmmakers might give would probably be implausible.

raywest

Chosen answer: She was finally shown at the very end of the last episode of season 8, continuing into season 9. The actor's name is Cristin Milioti: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm2129662/.

Knever

Question: Did The Jackal let Koslova die slowly in punishment for trying to kill him at the pier?

Answer: He wants her to pass a taunting message to Declan. So much so, that he even helps her to slow the bleeding down before she dies too soon.

Question: Why would Meinhard need to have been shot if the bomb would have taken everyone in the room out? The only reason I can think of is that Moriarty has considered the possibility of Meinhard surviving and has thus ordered Moran to shoot Meinhard to give him no chance of surviving whatsoever. Can anyone kindly confirm this or give a better explanation?

Answer: That sounds entirely right. Bombs are potentially unreliable; it's possible, albeit unlikely, that Meinhard could have survived the blast, so by getting Moran to shoot him dead first, then covering up the true cause of death (and thus who the real target was) using the bomb, it ensures that the job gets done.

Question: I would like to know why, when they check in the hotel, Vesper is angry when Bond tells her to sign the reservation, because she represents the treasury?

Mike_Casinoroyale

Chosen answer: It's because he's blatantly blowing their cover. They're supposed to be masquerading as a professional gambler and his lover, so when Bond goes up to the counter, gives his real name rather than his cover name and states directly who and what she is, it understandably annoys her.

Tailkinker

Question: When the animals go to tell the dwarves about the witch trying to kill Snow White, why is Grumpy all of a sudden concerned about her? He's the first one to say that they have to go rescue her and then is leading them back to the cottage, although up to that point he hasn't liked her at all.

Answer: He's oppositional, sure, but that's just who he is. It doesn't mean he doesn't like her.
