Continuity mistake: As Faramir recalls Boromir's speech, the Horn of Gondor is slung over Boromir's shoulder. In the shots from behind, the Horn is high up on his back, next to his cloak. In the shots from the front, the Horn is much lower at his hip, under his cloak. (00:31:55)

Continuity mistake: The bodies and rocks behind Gimli change positions, between shots. When Gimli says the words, "That's not bad for a pointy-eared Elvish Princeling," there is a rock right behind Gimli to his right. In his close-up it's not there. Yet, when the camera does another close-up, when he reacts to the arrow between his legs, the rock is to his right again. When Gimli says the words, "I myself am sitting pretty on forty three," behind him to his right, a Rohan turns over the body of an Uruk onto its back. When Gimli says the words, "He was already dead," that Uruk hasn't been turned over. (01:39:00)

Trivia: Elizabeth falling off the fort was filmed on a set, south of Los Angeles. Jack diving off the ship to rescue her was filmed in the Caribbean, and his actually rescuing Elizabeth was filmed in a tank in Long Beach, California. There are thousands of miles between those three consecutive shots. This is similar circumstances to the scene when Elizabeth is walking the plank and surfacing. Both were shot in the Caribbean, but with a few days in-between shots. On the commentary, Jack Davenport (Norrington) mentions Keira Knightley's (Elizabeth) little-known ability to hold her breath for two days. (00:15:00)

Deliberate mistake: The East India Trading Company in reality, branded pirates with a 'P' on their foreheads, never on their arms, the way Captain Jack has it. It was deliberately decided to be historically inaccurate, feeling it looked better on Depp's arm. (Confirmed on commentary.) (00:17:20)

Trivia: In the blacksmith shop, Jack lifts up a sack filled with soot and sprays Will all over his face with it. The soot is actually chocolate powder, so in other words it was a chocolate covered Will. (00:26:15)

Continuity mistake: After Will rescues Jack from the noose, they soon run up steps with the rope in their hands. At the top of the steps they encounter the two soldiers and proceed to trap both soldiers around the stone column. Just as the rope goes around them, one soldier loses his hat, yet when the rope is pulled behind the column by Will and Jack, he has it on and then loses it again. (02:07:15)

Trivia: One of Barbossa's pirates has a dreadlocked beard that's always on fire. There is wire with copper sockets in the ends of the dreads, in which they would insert incense to burn for the smoking effect. After every take they would have to reinsert incense and relight his beard. During the sword play, the locks in his beard would flop around, causing it to burn himself or someone else, or even light up the rest of his beard.

Continuity mistake: As Will stands on top of the rail of the Black Pearl, holding the gun, in the close-up and in the wide shots of Elizabeth, her appearance - the neckline of her dress and slip, differs. (01:31:30)

Super Grover

Continuity mistake: Jack escapes the brig of the Black Pearl, goes up on deck and grabs the line from another and says, "Thanks very much." This shot's flipped. In the next wide shot of Jack (Tony Angelotti), he grabs the line again and swings across. The flipping was done in order to keep the Interceptor on the left of the screen and the Black Pearl on the right of the screen during the fight sequence. (01:28:15)

Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl mistake picture

Continuity mistake: After falling off the parapet, Elizabeth is under water, and we see a close-up of the medallion floating freely, causing a tremor in the water. When Jack gets her back on shore and rips open her corset, the medallion is now firmly tucked inside her dress - no way it could have just slipped in there given how insanely tight it was. (00:15:40)

Continuity mistake: When Jack holds the chain to Elizabeth's neck, and subsequently swings about, there are about ten links between the wrist shackles. When he tosses the links over the rope, before he slides down, there are at least fifteen attached links. Then at the blacksmith shop, when Jack sits at the anvil, there are eight links, and after he breaks it there are three links dangling from the right shackle and seven dangling from the left, totaling ten. Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl mistake picture

Continuity mistake: When Jack holds the chain to Elizabeth's neck, when he flees, while he is flying through the air, when he throws the chain over the rope, as he slides down and then runs away, the shackles go from being over the sleeves to being on his bare wrists with his sleeves pulled up, then back over the sleeves again repeatedly. Then when Jack approaches drunk Mr. Brown, the shackle is on his bare wrist as seen from the front of Jack, but in the shot from his side, the shackle is over the sleeve. This continues throughout this entire scene; Jack's left sleeve goes from under the shackle to rolled up to his elbow then back under the shackle. (00:21:15 - 00:24:35)

Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl mistake picture

Continuity mistake: When Elizabeth puts the silver candelabra upside down on the door handles, the left handle is hanging down. In the next shot, that door handle is sticking straight out. No one touched it. (00:33:20)

Trivia: When Barbossa and Jack are skeletons in the moonlight, their eyeballs were really theirs. It was the only part of their bodies which was not CGI-animated. Audio commentaries.

Trivia: While they were waiting between takes on set, the extras who portrayed the Uruk-hai at Helm's Deep started chanting, singing and tapping their spears on the ground, to the beat of their singing (probably because many of the extras were Maori, the native people of New Zealand, and the chanting was a Maori haka). This is how the idea evolved for Peter Jackson to use it in the movie. It developed into the dramatic piece of the chanting and pounding of spears, by the Uruk-hai, at the stand off in Helm's Deep. As heard on the Appendices DVD.

The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers trivia picture

Trivia: Many of the Riders of Rohan appearing with Éomer when they meet Aragorn, Gimli and Legolas, are accomplished horse women in beards. The crew knew that the set was a true traveling circus, when they actually sat down to lunch surrounded by bearded ladies. Appendices DVD.

Continuity mistake: When Sam first reaches into his pack, in the close-up, he takes out the lembas bread and says, "Oh yes. Lovely", one corner of the leaf is sticking up. As he continues to say, "Lembas bread", in this wide shot, all the corners of the leaf are now down and completely covering the lembas bread. (00:07:20)

Continuity mistake: Aragorn remembers what Gandalf said, "...at dawn look to the East." Theoden crosses the floor in front of Aragorn saying, "The horn of Helm Hammerhand shall sound in the Deep," as Aragorn turns around towards Theoden. Theoden now turns to face Aragorn, as he continues, "one last time." In the next shot, Theoden puts his hand on Aragorn's shoulder, behind Aragorn is a chair to his right. The next shot of Theoden close up shows his back to the front guarded door of the chamber with the chair overturned behind him. Earlier when Theoden crosses the floor past Aragorn, their positions changed. It should be Aragorn's back facing the front guarded door of the chamber now. Also, the overturned chair should be upright. (01:27:20)

Continuity mistake: At the flooded Isengard, the first shots of Pip and Merry are in front of Saruman's storeroom. Floating in the water, directly behind them are a large barrel and a large crate. In the shots of them turning to enter the storeroom, the floating barrel and crate are gone. Extended DVD. (01:40:15)

The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers mistake picture

Continuity mistake: When Merry and Pippin first enter Saruman's storeroom, in the close-up, Merry is holding an apple and a large glass carafe with wine. As the camera pans out, to show the whole storeroom, he is no longer holding the large glass carafe, but he is holding an apple and a turkey. Extended DVD. (01:40:20)
