Separation (2021)

Revealing mistake: The staircase to the second floor bedrooms is awkward, not in proportion to the rest of the house, and usually only the section that is needed for a particular shot is shown (and the section is most likely a replica). In particular, the staircase would be quite steep - and extend well into the attic! - if the upper portion continued at the same grade/angle as the lower steps. The perpendicular entrance is too short and both posts are not always on the floor (one may be at the end of the steps). (00:23:04 - 00:28:12)

Other mistake: After the fire extinguisher was sprayed to put out the flame on the wall painting, there should have been some debris or markings to reflect the use of the extinguisher, but there were no obvious indicators. (00:24:50)

Trivia: It may be difficult to tell based on her acting "skills", but Mamie Gunner ("Maggie Vahn") is Meryl Streep's daughter. The lesser-known Don Gunner is Mamie's father.

Separation (2021)

Continuity mistake: Views of Paul falling (pushed) down the stairs showed different positions from the top of the stairs, the landing, and from the downstairs floor. His back ended up on the landing with his legs bent and feet on the third step. (The form/size of the step itself was awkward - there wasn't enough room for Paul's whole foot.) A view from the top of the steps showed his left leg on the landing, bent with his foot under his right leg, which was on the step. A side view showed yet another position. (01:33:33)

Separation (2021)

Revealing mistake: When Grandpa Paul Rivers (probably a substitute of some kind) was falling (pushed) down the stairs, his body was "floating" and not actually making contact with the steps. (01:33:30)

Jungle (2017)

Continuity mistake: When Yossi was rescued and in the boat/canoe, his shirtless body and pants were filthy but - after almost three weeks in the jungle - his beard was neat and trimmed. A close-up a little later also shows how neat his beard was. (01:44:47 - 01:45:24)

Common mistakes

Character mistake: When kids/teenagers have something urgent or important to tell adults (especially parents), the adults say "uh-huh" but aren't really listening OR do not believe the kids even though they are telling the truth. Adults might view the alleged event as a joke ("The Chumscrubber"), too far-fetched ("Eight-Legged Freaks" and "Dog Gone"), an emotional reaction ("Good Boys"), or due to an overactive imagination, often attributed to watching scary movies ("Home Alone III" and "Diary of a Wimpy Kid").

Common mistakes

Deliberate mistake: When food is served, little (if any) is eaten - even if people are starving. Instead, the diners play with their food, pretend to be cutting it or getting it onto a fork/spoon, and might raise food to their mouth but not actually put any in (which might be followed by "fake chewing"). Frequently, ONE bite is taken out of a sandwich or slice of pizza and the rest goes uneaten. As a variation, when the family is just about ready to "dig into" a holiday feast, there's an emergency = no-one eats.

Revealing mistake: Emmet held a cigarette lighter, displaying a fairly high flame for a long period of time and even held the lighter sideways in his palm without burning his hand! If it were a real flame, he most certainly would not be able to hold it lit very long and would have burned his hand. (00:24:25 - 00:25:25)

Continuity mistake: At the market, Lee picks out five pieces of fruit (one apple and four oranges?), tears a produce bag off, and walks away. He takes a few steps off-screen, and he is next seen going around an end cap and walking down an aisle, with nine pieces of fruit in the produce bag. (00:01:36)

Stupidity: The deaf girl, Regan, went out on her own to try to help others. The very fast alien creatures popped up sporadically (could attack at any time in an instant), but Regan barely looked behind her while walking to see if any were coming after her. (00:38:30)

Revealing mistake: The "baby" looked quite "rubbery" at times and its limited movements (even motionless) and lack of sound are indicative of a "fake" baby (doll) most of the time. The baby was mostly kept covered in some kind of box and did not even cry when the mother was running with it (while in her arms or in the box). (00:14:35 - 00:20:30)

Suggested correction: This is not really a "revealing mistake." Fake babies are used in movies all the time. Due to the complexities of filmmaking, it is simply impractical and impossible to use real infants for most scenes. Child safety and labor laws strictly limits how long a baby can be on set. A fake baby may or may not look "rubbery" but that is what they had to work with.

Your correction is precisely what makes it a revealing mistake. Explaining why a mistake occurs doesn't invalidate the mistake. You could only argue that it doesn't look fake or a real baby was used, but since that's not the case, the mistake stands.

Bishop73

A "mistake" is an unplanned and/or unwanted circumstance. Obviously using a fake baby was an intentional decision. At best, this should be classified as a "Deliberate Mistake."

raywest

This very website defines "revealing" mistakes as: "Anything which gives away filming techniques, such as stunt wires being visible, or glass smashing before anyone goes through it." (And I could be wrong, but I believe the definition used to be even broader.) An obviously fake baby falls under that umbrella, and always has. You simply can't argue that it's not a revealing mistake by the rules of this site just because it was a deliberate choice by the filmmakers. Heck, even under your strict definition of mistake (which is very problematic, because it doesn't really account for plenty of things that 99.9% of people would commonly consider "movie mistakes"), it's still a mistake, since the filmmakers wanted people to think it's real, and we obviously don't - ergo an unplanned circumstance.

Gully (2019)

Other mistake: Standing on the porch, Glen could hear Charlie talking to Jesse (sitting near the wall opposite the window). While peeking through the side of the curtain, a neighbor saw Glen and started yelling: "Hey! Hey, get the f - away from their window! Hello? Get over here!" If Glen could hear what was being said inside, Charlie and/or Jesse should have been able to hear a woman screaming not far from the porch. (00:29:31 - 00:30:03)

Dream Horse (2020)

Continuity mistake: The shape, amount, length and width of the white down "Dream Alliance's" face varied, as did the height of his white "boots", indicating that the same foal/horse was not used throughout the movie. The white on the foal's and adult Dream Alliance's face and lower legs looked painted on at times. Before Dream's first race, black tape was used on his lower legs, apparently as an attempt to make a different horse's higher white boots less or not at all noticeable. (00:32:42 - 00:35:51)

The Empty Man (2020)

Continuity mistake: James lit the cigarette he gave Amanda, and she was shown taking one puff. Amanda tells part of the Empty Man story and the ashes on the tip of her cigarette are the same when she takes a second puff. After continuing the story for about two minutes, the length of the ashes still have not increased when Amanda is about to take the third puff. (00:37:21 - 00:39:53)

Lean on Pete (2017)

Deliberate mistake: The condition of Pete's coat/body after being struck by the car was not consistent with what would be expected from such an impact. The absence of distinct or vivid blood was presumably deliberate for the sake of viewers. But Pete's left legs were rammed by the car's front bumper and hood; a horse struck in such a manner would not have "bowed" rear legs. The way Pete's body was displayed did not look real - probably because it wasn't real. Pete was beyond recognition because it wasn't Pete. (01:29:10)

Lean on Pete (2017)

Deliberate mistake: The car's headlights are angled differently. After the car hit Pete, its headlights were angled upwards (more toward the sky than the road). This enabled a clearer view of Charlie when he approached and knelt next to Pete's head. A later, more distant view shows the headlights shining about waist-high, which would be more typical. Lean on Pete (2017)

Other mistake: It was dark outside, so the car that hit Pete was difficult to see, but it did not have the damage that would be expected. It appears the front end - including headlights - did not suffer obvious or major damage. The right side doors appeared to be dented, but that side did not hit Pete. The front windshield looked shattered but intact and the roof did not look damaged. A 3,000lb sedan colliding with a 1,000lb or so horse that hit and went over the hood and roof would be crushed. Lean on Pete (2017)

Continuity mistake: The car that hit Pete did not veer off the road, but the car's headlights were shining toward waist-high weeds (as well as past the repositioned Pete). When Charlie ran up to Pete from above his head, he was not obstructed by any weeds, which would have been impossible based on where the car's lights were shining. (01:29:00)
