Super 8 (2011)

Trivia: Ryan Lee (Cary) was wearing braces when he auditioned for "Super 8", but had to wear fake braces during filming so the braces fit the time period (1979 - when braces were bigger/bulkier).

Super 8 (2011)

Factual error: None of the people the "monster" hung from the ceiling (the Sheriff, Alice, the woman in rollers reported missing earlier) suffered ANY ill-effects. The Sheriff and Alice were taken around the same time (after dark) and it was nighttime again when Joe went into the building to try to find Alice. The "monster" apparently had just placed Alice and the woman on the ground, so - assuming they were hung right after being abducted - they had been suspended inverted for at least 15 hours. [If Alice got home as late as 6:00 AM (around twilight or before sunrise) and Joe found her right after dusk (around 9:00 PM), at least 15 hours had passed. The woman was reported missing much earlier.] Death could have occurred from being suspended upside-down for that many hours. They may have survived, but there should have been some noticeable adverse effect, such as blurred vision, dizziness, or sore/weak legs. Perhaps "fight or flight" got them moving, but even then, wobbly legs would show. (01:33:58)

Other mistake: The scene after Mr. Lamb puts Joe in the sheriff's car has background snow (in June). There's a little snow visible when Mr. Lamb and Joe are going into the house and, once inside, out the window. A little later, much more snow can be seen out the window, similar to the opening scene when it was February. (00:52:40 - 00:53:27)

Super 8 (2011)

Other mistake: Joe and Alice were somehow able to get the sheriff down from his inverse suspension, but - given the height of the ceiling and depth of the hole - the sheriff's feet (where they would be tied for the inverted suspension) would be out of reach. Moreover, surely a knife or cutting instrument of some kind would have been needed to cut the rope (assuming a rope was used) - did Joe happen to have something in his backpack? What was shown to the viewer was Joe and Alice using their hands on the sheriff's waist to lightly sway him two or three times in an attempt to get him down. The viewer next saw the sheriff when all but his feet had landed on the ground. For the sheriff to fall unharmed - head first - is far-fetched.

Trivia: The song Joe and his friends were singing while waiting for Alice to pick them up, "My Sharona", was the #1 song in 1979. The song was the first song on Side #2 of the Knacks' "Get The Knack." If the Lillian public schools' last day was the last week of May or the first week of June, the boys were singing "My Sharona" before the album was released on June 11, 1979.

Factual error: When Joe goes to the cemetery, all the trees have fall foliage (yellow/orange/red). The movie takes place during the first week of June, when all the leaves are green. (00:53:52)

Other mistake: After the train wreck, Alice would not be able to see the fake blood standing so far away in the dark and with Joe's body blocking her view... or with all the still-falling ashes floating in the air to boot. (00:20:28)

Max: Fifteen minutes from now or fifteen minutes from later?

Deliberate mistake: The number of acts Lecter performed during his escape from the individual jail cell and until he was attended to by an officer (who thought he was an injured officer) would have taken a lot of time and effort to complete - way more time than he could have gone undetected by one of the many officers in the building. Slashing/ bludgeoning to death a person can be done fairly quickly (munching on a victim's face adds time!), but three particular acts required a substantial amount of time, especially for an elderly man whose ultimate goal was escape: Swapping clothes (undressing and dressing) with a police officer and trimming off his face/scalp to appear to be that officer, then getting to a strategic location to be discovered; Setting a dead officer on the roof of the elevator; and, somehow hanging / impaling (crucifixion-style) an officer from the top of the jail cell (which appeared to be around 10' high). The latter feat would be challenging for TWO physically-fit officers.

Continuity mistake: At the store, when the background looks pale and at a slant (indicating the use of a green screen), the man behind the counter makes the same head and eye motions on two occasions (obviously taped) and his eyes don't appear to be looking at the "live action" - he appears to be somewhere else (like on a pre-recorded tape).

Continuity mistake: After the drone gets smashed by the school bus and the Good Boys run across to be facing the school, the background changes a few times. For example, students who are standing together behind Max suddenly disappear, but are back in the same spot when the camera changes direction again.

Deliberate mistake: The "CPR doll" smashed through the car's windshield, knocking out two-thirds or more of the glass. The doll would not weigh enough to break through the windshield (and maybe not even cause a hairline crack). The excessive amount of glass smashed out and the distance the doll flew before landing on the highway were obviously exaggerated for dramatic and comedic purposes. (00:47:00)

Other mistake: The pie crust Mrs. Glover is rolling out is almost ready to be put into the pie pan when Bobby comes into the kitchen. Although not shown on camera, the motions of Mrs. Glover's shoulders and upper arms indicate that she continues rolling the pie crusts for some time, exerting a lot of pressure. Then she tells Bobby that pie crusts "should be handled as little as possible." (00:25:16 - 00:27:03)

Other mistake: One joint, already partially smoked by Bobby and Jonathan when Mrs. Glover enters the room, gets passed around a few times and lasts for an unusually long period of time. When it is already too small (barely big enough to be held), more hits are taken but the joint doesn't really get smaller. (00:12:42 - 00:17:03)

Continuity mistake: The way Charlie's necktie is tied and hanging varies during his first party. Sometimes, it is a little loose around the neck but the knot is tight and askew. Other times, the tie looks like a typical neat one. Interestingly, the tie is mostly loose and crooked at the beginning, but quite neat and typical after he eats the laced brownies (but goes back to loose and tilted). (00:26:08 - 00:28:03)

Continuity mistake: There are numerous instances (plenty even within the first fifteen minutes) wherein a character's hair changes from messy or strands hanging down or out to fairly neatly combed - far too many to point out at a particular time in the movie without being tedious and redundant (plus, this isn't necessary to be valid). For example, Mr Anderson's hair changes within a few seconds. There was a wad of hair sticking out on his left side, then it was neatly combed on the left side but the right side was disheveled. Patrick's hair, which is almost always messy, still has noticeable variations (such as dangling strands on one side or in his part) within seconds and/or when the camera changes position. Charlie's hair, in particular his bangs, frequently has gaps that are no longer present the next time he is seen. Given the number of hair continuity errors, they are best documented as one repeated mistake. (00:07:04)
