When the logger drops off the envelope for Debbie (from Jim), there's no sign by the door, but there is one past the building. Continuity mistake: Jim's "custom built" camper/truck often looks different. In addition to the color changes (usually various shades of gray and white), the truck may or may not have running boards; the top of the camper might have one or two blue stripes; the exterior details of the camper vary - how far it extends over the truck's roof, the number of attachments or protrusions on top, and its shape. The windows are dark-tinted, but there are blinds on the inside (which are too low).

Continuity mistake: The pattern of blood on the right side of Jim's coat was different when he was inside of the Golden Road Checkpoint. When Jim was still in his truck, he had one dripping blood line, but two inside the Checkpoint. It is also questionable how he got the blood on his coat; Jim was wearing an orange vest over his coat at the time. Stupidity: Chad escaped from Jed four times but was always recaptured. When Chad fled on a horse, Jed caught up and, after a struggle, Jed fell and his eye landed on a pointed rock. Instead of running, Chad watched on his knees and when he stood up, Jed grabbed his neck. Another time, Chad had a good head start and was hiding over an embankment yet Jed found him. Later, Chad kicked Jed off a hill but didn't run. The "overgrown" twelve-year-old did not follow through on his escape attempts. (00:40:25 - 00:41:23)

Continuity mistake: Britt is using his right hand to (try to) set his pistol atop a rock (per Jed's request), but the rock is pointed and at an angle. Other mistake: Jed has eight rounds on him/in his pistol. He tells Chad to go to his saddlebag to get another round of ammo and keep it in his pocket. Jed tells Chad "Let's play catch the bullet" since Chad (not his marshal dad Britt) is the only MacMasters there. Jed fires six rounds before Britt shows up on top of the hill, then two more (eight rounds). Jed shoots a ninth and tenth round before he tells Chad, "Get that ammo." Stupidity: Chad's friend Albert sneaks along the side of the house when Jed Blake and his gang are on the porch. Instead of staying hidden, Albert runs out in the open and is shot dead. Factual error: It isn't known how long Tommy's mother was dead (overdosed), but Tommy told Parker that his mom and dad had been "asleep for hours." When Parker felt Tommy's mom's neck for a pulse, her body appeared to be stiff. Even if rigor mortis had not set in, it would take more than Parker lightly passing his hand over her eyes to close them. Stupidity: After Casi changed the tracker on the Navigator, he was sneaking between vehicles to get out of the tow pound. The Whale came and stood in front of the two vehicles Casi was between. Casi stood up and, instead of turning around and running away, rushed TOWARD The Whale in an attempt to get past him. The Whale, much bigger, threw Casi against a vehicle and then onto the garage floor. (01:03:34).

Revealing mistake: When Nathan and Theresa are talking on the front porch, the background is fake (and mostly blurred). The white picket fence just doesn't look real. A hanging plant on the porch sways a little from wind but the two nearby trees (leaves/branches) are stationary. Continuity mistake: The location and intensity of Lavinia's purple hair highlights vary throughout the movie. For example, the purple highlights on the right side were far more pronounced (two wide, distinct, vivid lines) when she got home compared to when she first met Ward. Lavinia rode her horse Comet home, so her hair would have been wind-blown and the highlights would not have been likely to be neatly straight down, especially since she has long curly hair.
