Correction: He doesn't shoot through it. He shoots into it, fracturing it, and the bullets ricochet back into him.

It's clear they don't ricochet.

Ssiscool

They do ricochet which is why he drops the gun suddenly on the second shot as one hits his hand. But there is no way he'd be able to fracture it with a pistol as that glass can apparently stop a 50 calibre bullet.

Correction: I just took it as a "spared no expense" kind of thing, swear up and down that it's safe and cut corners to make it cheap. You know like hiring Dennis Nedry to automate the park to cut down payroll expenses, using run of the mill Ford Explorers and bragging about it, using the tragedy of a little girl getting attacked to take control of the company then hiring a bunch of "Marlboro men" to go in and bring dinos back to the US (because that's totally not about lying to everyone in the attempt to make a bunch of money, we all know how much safer bringing the dinos around people is compared to just leaving them alone). Point is, it could be a mistake or it could be within the Jurassic Park theme that's been going on since the books, corporate greed and cutting expenses > lives.

Correction: And yet during that video, multiple problems were occurring and the I-Rex was still able to poke its claw through the glass. Obviously it wasn't fully secure, especially since it was only meant to be around herbivores, not a dinosaur on the loose.

Speed (1994)

Corrected entry: Soon after Jack gets on the bus, Howard can see the bus on the news. Why is the news at this stage covering this? The only thing that has been suspicious is someone from a car coming from a car onto a bus, but what has happened before this that makes this newsworthy? Looks like regular traffic is flowing up to this point. (00:44:00)

oobs

Correction: It is extremely common for news helicopters to cover rush hour traffic in major cities. If a news crew happened to be monitoring the freeway and noticed a pedestrian running to catch up to a bus, stop a convertible dead in its tracks, get in the convertible, catch up to the bus, the man jumps from the speeding car onto the bus at 50 plus miles per hour, and the car then crashes; it seems fairly normal for the bus to be on the news by this point. It certainly isn't a plot hole.

BaconIsMyBFF

But for that scenario to work, not a single element can be missed. If the film crew missed any of it why would they film the bus?

Ssiscool

I don't think if a single element was missed it wouldn't be newsworthy. If, for example they missed everything but a man jumping from a moving car onto a bus I still think that makes the bus newsworthy. That's really the only element that can't be missed by the news for this explanation to work. Payne himself comments on Jack's bravery in getting on the bus so that means he saw it. The only thing that could make the news following the bus a plot hole would be if Jack managed to get on without any fanfare at all, which of course didn't happen. It can't be a plot hole because it's not impossible for the news to have followed the entire incident of Jack getting on the bus. The fact that they may have been able to miss something doesn't make it impossible that they didn't.

Jurassic Park III (2001)

Corrected entry: How was Ben killed? He was stuck in a tree, so the smaller dinosaurs couldn't reach him. You can see that the skeleton's legs are missing, which makes you think of a t-rex or spinosaurus, but surely that would have torn the whole body down from the tree.

Correction: He could easily have died in the tree from exposure, hunger, disease or any reason. He would start to decompose, scavengers would get to him, and this would cause his legs to drop to the ground, where they would be carried away by other animals. For instance.

Twotall

Correction: Supposedly a scene was removed which involved Eric recording Ben's death. In this scene Ben was attacked by the velociraptor, since they landed next to their nest, but didn't attack Eric since Been was stuck in the tree making him an easier target. In my opinion: I believe after being attacked and losing his legs he pulled himself up into the trees but would have bled out very quickly.

If the velociraptor bit Ben's legs off, there's no way he would have been able to climb into the tree due to massive blood loss and shock.

Ssiscool

Corrected entry: There's no way anyone could cut off their hand with a knife the way Wormtail did. The only way they could do it is if they slowly sawed it off. Even if he raised the knife and swung it hard, there's no way it would work, the bone is way too strong. But Wormtail didn't even do that, he just placed the knife on his hand and moved it down. You couldn't even cut hair like that.

MikeH

Correction: Wormtail is not just "anyone" though. He understood the importance of each of the ritual's steps and getting the potion done just right. He is following Voldemort's orders and instructions. Wormtail's dagger may have been magical, or a charm could have been placed on its finely edged blade to be swift in its tasks. Also, Wormtail was in a highly charged state of mind, which only intensified the force he used to "willingly" sacrifice his hand.

Super Grover

If I recall, it's described in the book as being a "quick flash of silver" indicating as you suggested the dagger has got some magical properties.

Ssiscool

Correction: He didn't cut through bone, he cut his wrist and the knife moved past the bones. If the force is strong enough and the knife sharp enough it's definitely possible to do this.

Family Guy (1999)

Correction: The phrase "tip of the iceberg" exists for a reason. Yes there's damage above the waterline too, but the critical damage was below it, that's just not shown onscreen.

Jon Sandys

Also, the actual Titanic suffered damage above the water line, making the scene very accurate.

Die Hard (1988)

Character mistake: An unloaded automatic pistol is much lighter and balanced differently than a loaded one. When McClane hands "Bill Clay" (Gruber) the empty pistol, a terrorist of Gruber's credentials should pick up on the odd balance (I notice that difference, and I very rarely even pick up a gun).

Upvote valid corrections to help move entries into the corrections section.

Suggested correction: This presumes that a person can notice the difference between a fully-loaded pistol versus a pistol that is empty, which makes sense. However, it would be much more difficult for a person to tell that a gun is completely empty versus one that only has one or two bullets loaded. Since Gruber has no way of knowing his ruse didn't work, he doesn't believe McClane would have given him a completely empty gun. He obviously believes there is at the very least one bullet in the gun. He's not planning on getting into a shootout with McClane, he is just planning to threaten him and he certainly doesn't need a fully loaded gun to do that.

BaconIsMyBFF

Suggested correction: It's easy to tell the different between the weight of a loaded vs. unloaded pistol, but given Hans had never held the pistol before, he had no way to compare the weight. Unless he regularly handled that particular model of pistol (unlikely, given his pistol is a completely different make and model) he would have no point of reference.

Most likely scenario. Different models will weigh differently as as stated, unless you got the point of reference how would you know?

Suggested correction: There is also the world media outside filming the survivors entering the hotel. To say it is a camera operator, while statistically true, can't be classed a mistake as we don't know if it's a member of the media.

This is the actual camera filming the shot. That's a mistake.

Grand Theft Auto V

Corrected entry: Prologue: A security guard in the Ludendorff bank pulls off Michael's mask, prompting Trevor to shoot the guard. When they continue to escape the bank, Michael leaves his mask behind, leaving his face exposed. The masks are supposed to conceal their identity. Leaving his face exposed defies their entire purpose.

Casual Person

Correction: The bank's cameras will have caught his face when his mask was removed. No point hiding it again.

Mr. Bean (1989)

Merry Christmas Mr. Bean - S1-E10

Corrected entry: Mr Bean gives the collection tin back to the salvation army band leader when it is full - there is a girl with long ginger hair standing to the left behind Mr Bean wearing a black coat. The band leader asks Mr Bean to hold the baton while he puts the collection tin in his car - the ginger haired girl is now wearing a red coat and holding a bouquet of flowers, but when the band leader returns, the girl is back to wearing the black coat and her flowers have disappeared.

Correction: Please rewatch the scene, because they are not the same person. During this scene we see three young women with ginger-blonde hair. The first has very long hair and she's wearing a black coat, standing behind the band leader in front of the fruit stand. The second has hair just past her shoulders and she's also wearing a black coat, holding a basket of flowers, but she's standing behind the band, opposite the band leader. The third has short hair, wearing a short red coat, holding flowers, also standing near the fruit stand. This is available to watch on Amazon Prime Video.

Super Grover

Correction: The girl is wearing a black coat throughout all the scenes.

Even if the coat remains the same, the part about flowers remains.

Ssiscool

The mistake is valid and I think the corrector is looking at the wrong girl. Although it's hard to tell if the girl in red is the same as the girl in black, but either way the girl in the mistake either disappears and reappears or does go from red to black.

Fixer Upper - S1-E12

Common mistakes

Corrected entry: Despite being a lawyer, architect or whatever, the male character will have a garage filled with high end, spotlessly clean tools.

The_Iceman

Correction: Several issues with this entry being a mistake: - first, how often do we actually see this? If this has happened in some shows, perhaps it would be better expressed as a mistake in those specific shows, instead of 'common'. - second, why a male character? Can't female characters have tools in a garage? - third, the writers may have given the character shiny tools for a reason: the character is wealthy but still handy; they feel they needed to buy the tools to project an image even if they don't use them; they like buying shiny toys (the character does the same with the kitchen or home cinema); somebody else in the family uses them; the character has a hobby or a long term DIY project, etc.

To me, it's a mistake because it almost always feels out of place for the character, their life, lifestyle etc.

The_Iceman

Again, do you have an example?

lionhead

Correction: How is that a mistake?

Ssiscool

A garage full of top of the range, specific, expensive and spotlessly clean tools? How many lawyers, office executives etc do you know who perform sophisticated diy projects on a regular basis to need a whole garage full of tools like that?

The_Iceman

My brother is a CFO and he built a treehouse for his kids by himself. He has a garage full of nice tools which are kept clean. Clean tools are long lasting tools.

Bishop73

Can you give an example?

Peter Rabbit (2018)

Corrected entry: The Land Rover bonnet is opened by Peter because his ears were stuck under it, but is closed seconds after. (00:35:25)

Correction: This is correct that the bonnet does close. However, you will notice that when Tom stops the land rover it is on a country lane. When we see it next it's turning on to a main road. Indicating some time has passed. Enough to close the bonnet again.
