Question: I have 3 questions. 1. How come Katniss wanted Mags as an ally? 2. Why didn't she want Finnick as an ally? 3. Plutarch said half the tributes were in on getting Katniss out of the quarter quell. Is it known what tributes were in on it?

THE GAMER NEXT DOOR

Chosen answer: 1, She chose Mags because she liked her and wanted to protect her as much as possible. 2. Katniss didn't trust Finnick. She didn't know he was one of her allies. 3. Not all of the Tributes who are allies are named.

Question: I'm curious as to why Will and Elizabeth didn't both stab the heart at the same time. Wouldn't they then be able to captain the Flying Dutchman together and not have to deal with the whole 10 year separation? And if Davy Jones is able to stand ashore in a bucket of seawater for the parley, why couldn't Will Turner do the same once he became captain of The Flying Dutchman?

sierracimarron

Chosen answer: A ship has only one captain and only one person can be the captain of the Flying Dutchman. Will became that person. Davy Jones may have been able to stand onshore while in a bucket of seawater, but by having left the netherworld for the living one, he'd abandoned his purpose in ferrying souls lost at sea. From then on, he was corrupted and became a monster. Will could not re-enter the living world during that ten-year period, otherwise, the same fate would have befallen him and the crew.

Silverado (1985)

Question: I am sure that when I watched Silverado many years ago that Cobb's men, after capturing Emmett, used a rock or stone to break the bones in his gun hand to render him harmless. The DVD I have does not have this scene - if it ever existed.

Answer: I first saw this film in a theater, and later on DVD and TV, and I don't recall the scene you described. If his hand had been injured that way, the injury would have lasted throughout the entire film and that was not the case. Perhaps you're confusing this with another movie.

Answer: You may be thinking of The Quick and The Dead. That happens to Russell Crowe before the final gunfight.

Question: After Jack's meeting with Beckett on board the Endeavour, they have a deal where Jack has to lead Beckett to the Pirates. Then why does Jack fire a canon on the main mast, making them incapable of pursuit? Later, however, he lets Will escape the brig, gives him the compass and lets him go to Beckett. The two actions seem inconsistent.

uk_07

Chosen answer: It's a little complicated. Jack would never betray the other pirates. He made the deal with Beckett in order to escape and then shot down the ship's main mast to slow Beckett's pursuit (the mast could be repaired fairly quickly) while putting his plan into action. Jack wanted the pirate lords to fight Beckett, so he let Will escape so that he would lead Beckett's fleet to Shipwreck Cove. (Will's motive was to save his father and Elizabeth.) Jack knew the pirate lords would not fight Beckett and were untouchable once they were ensconced inside their floating fortress. Jack voted for Elizabeth Swan to become pirate king because he knew she would declare war on Beckett, forcing the pirate lords into the battle.

Passengers (2016)

Question: Why did Arthur tell Aurora that Jim woke her up even though he promised to keep it a secret?

Answer: Being that Arthur is an android, he takes everything that is said literally and without analyzing it. Once Jim and Aurora began their romantic relationship, Aurora casually mentioned to Arthur that she and Jim have "no secrets" from one another, which Jim, without realizing the context or the consequences, confirmed. Arthur then interpreted it to mean that Aurora knew Jim had intentionally awakened her from the sleeping pod.

raywest

Answer: Because the ship had been malfunctioning due to collision with the asteroid it had effected Arthur as he is part of the vessel. This shows something is wrong with the ship as previously indicated, Arthur's sudden change of behaviour being integral to what is going on.

Once Upon a Time (2011)

Chosen answer: Even if one can see the future, it can be somewhat vague and left open to interpretation.

raywest

He can sees the future all jumbled up. It is like a puzzle, it is hard to put together, but even when he does put it together it is not set in stone the future can change.

The Abyss (1989)

Question: Lindsay just had her first encounter with an alien. She and Bud are discussing what happened in the submarine to Jammer. In the background there is a window with an upside down plush toy what looks like a cat clawing to get out of the rig by way of the window. Is this a reference to something that might have been cut from the movie?

Answer: No, it's only meant to show the crew's sense of humor.

Question: When the fake Professor Moody is in his office with Harry, revealing everything he did, Dumbledore charges into the room with Professors McGonagall and Snape. All three of them are prepared to attack when they enter. How did they figure out that something was wrong?

Answer: When it was noticed that Harry was missing during the commotion surrounding Cedric's death, someone in the crowd saw Moody leading Harry away and tipped off Dumbledore. Dumbledore knew that the real Moody never would have taken Harry away like that without telling anyone. Also, Snape is a legilimens (able to read minds) and would be able to "hear" Harry and Moody's thoughts.

raywest

Answer: If we look closely at the scene where fake Moody takes Harry away, Fred and George are looking at them. It is quite likely that they informed Dumbledore who instantly became suspicious.

Answer: Adding to the other point, you wouldn't take a child who mentioned Voldemort's return away without the inquiry so Dumbledore must have realised that Moody was trying to get Harry away from the situation.

Question: How exactly did Harry and Ron make up after arguing for a while?

Answer: It was somewhat gradual. Ron came to realise that he was being unfair to Harry, but was too proud to make the first move in making up. First he tipped off Harry about the dragons by way of Hermione and several other students. During the celebration in the Gryffindor Common Room, while everyone is celebrating Harry's retrieving the dragon's egg, the squealing noise it makes propels Ron to finally react and talk to Harry.

Question: What were the Centaurs going to do with Umbridge once they carried her away?

Answer: It was never stated. In the books, they kept her prisoner until Dumbledore went into the forest and demanded that they release her, which they did.

General questions

I am looking for a movie that is about a woman who claims a man broke in through her window and raped/robbed her. But the only problem is she lives in a high rise so it would seem impossible. I think it came out in the 90s.

Nicksta117

Chosen answer: You're thinking of the 1993 film, "Sliver" starring Sharon Stone, William Baldwin, and Tom Berenger.

General questions

Why do several TV shows portray fathers as bumbling idiots? Just two examples are Homer Simpson ("The Simpsons") and Peter Griffin ("Family Guy").

Answer: It's just an old "nuclear family" stereotype dating back to the earliest days of television sitcoms. The father was often depicted as a good parent and faithful husband, but he was often a bit clueless about what was going on in the family. The mother was always the most level-headed one who managed the home and kids and kept everything running smoothly, all while tactfully letting her spouse believe he was in charge.

Question: What are the seven seas? And why is it a "big deal"?

Answer: The "Seven Seas" is an ancient phrase that came to refer to all the world's seas and oceans, although it was more of a figure-of-speech than an actual description. Beginning in the 19th century, the term generally came to mean the seven oceans: the Arctic Ocean, the North Atlantic Ocean, the South Atlantic Ocean, the Indian Ocean, the North Pacific Ocean, the South Pacific Ocean, and the Southern Ocean. Supposedly, a sailor wore a gold earring after having sailed on all seven oceans (and also for sailing around the Horn), which was a considerable maritime feat in pre-modern times.

Question: Before this year, why did Snape repeatedly apply to teach "Defence Against Dark Arts" if the position was cursed (in the fifth book, when Dolores Umbridge questions him, he admits that he applies every year)? I understand that he really wanted to teach the subject, but everyone knew that the position was cursed. Why put himself in danger, no matter how much he wanted the job?

Answer: There was never any explanation given in the books or the movies as to why Snape continually applied each year. He so coveted the position that most likely his ego was such that he believed his skills and abilities were superior enough to overcome any curse. Also, it was never specifically known that Voldemort had cursed the position. Dumbledore only surmised that he did because from the time Tom Riddle (Voldemort) first applied and was turned down, it was from that point on that no instructor lasted more than one year.

Question: Couldn't Tet just control Jack's spacecraft or bubble copter to stop him or kill him instead of sending drones after him?

Answer: Tet must not have had that capability, otherwise the drones would not have been sent.

Question: If Jack's clone's first task is to kill humans, what was Victoria's clone's task?

Answer: She oversees operations while Jack is on duty. Having a birds-eye view, she gives Jack pertinent info based on the computers, sensors, and video cameras that she monitors from above. She also reports directly to "Sally."

Question: Ted (Lurch) Cassidy was a total of six feet nine inches tall. A number of times, especially in Season 2 Episode 6, "Cousin Itt's Problem", it seems the top of his head barely clears to top of the door jamb. Were the doors seven feet tall back then?

Movie Nut

Chosen answer: Being that this was filmed in a TV studio, the set would have been specially designed and built to accommodate Cassidy's height. Also, I live in an older house (100 years-old), and all the inner and outer doors are eight feet tall.

Question: Why didn't werewolf Remus kill the marauders in animagus from? What difference did it make if they were in animal form then human form?

Answer: Remus, when in his werewolf form (and before the werewolf potion was invented) did not display aggression towards any other animals, only humans. This allowed James, Sirius and Pettigrew to be able control him at all times when they were transformed into their animagus forms.

Who Am I? (1998)

Question: Was a lot of the dialogue dubbed? It seems that a lot of the actors' voices don't seem to match up with the movements of their mouths.

Answer: It's quite possible because most movies use dubbing (or "looping") as part of the post-production work to enhance the quality or fix minor sound problems. Sometimes a different actor's voice is dubbed over a minor on-screen character.

Question: In the military warehouse scene at the beginning of the film, the huge sliding doors are designated "51" in numbers 30 feet tall, on the inside of the warehouse doors. If you were already on the premises of a top-secret government base, and already inside a top-secret government warehouse, why would you need a 30-foot-tall numerical designation inside the building?

Charles Austin Miller

Chosen answer: The filmmakers are employing some "artistic license" here so that the audience will know that this is the famous "Area 51." They have to be obvious about it.
