Question: Bitsey Bloom and Zach Stemmons are sharing a motel room together. There are two separate beds in that room so why is Zach sleeping on the floor? (01:35:13 - 01:35:40)

oobs

Answer: Perhaps to give her more space and privacy. Bitsey would be less visible to him from the floor.

Question: Wouldn't Jack have blown up with TET? How is he alive to come back at the end? Is it a different version?

Answer: It's not the same Jack. The one who died in the TET explosion was the Jack 49 clone. The clone who shows up at the end is Jack 52, who Jack 49 had encountered in the desert. Both have the same memories. Look closely, and you can see the tech clone designation numbers embossed on their jackets.

Question: Why were the sequels for this movie cancelled?

Answer: The first film made too small a profit and failed to resonate with its targeted youth audience. The global financial crisis of 2007-08 was also a factor in deciding to cancel the sequels, and New Line Cinema, the company that produced "The Golden Compass", instead put its resources into the ongoing "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy.

Question: Why doesn't Chuck just leave from the other side of the island?

Answer: Probably a variety of reasons. He could not have dragged the heavy raft to the island's other side. Even if he could, it's unlikely there was a flat clear path to get there. There may not have been an accessible beach on that side where he could launch from or that was suitable for establishing a new camp where he could build the raft.

Question: Why did the design of the coin change throughout the movie? In the beginning, when Elizabeth holds up the coin, there is a different design on the back than when Barbossa drops it into the chest with her blood, at the end. Please explain?

Answer: The most likely answer is, it is because the coins are movie props that probably had slight variations in the designs. There may have been multiple prop makers producing the coins for the movie, resulting in a different-looking product. It would be unrealistic that the same exact coin would always be used as the one belonging to Will Turner. This should be submitted as a movie inconsistency.

Actually that would just be a continuity.

Training Day (2001)

Question: How was Alonzo going to square his $1M debt to the Russians when his take from Roger's robbery/arrest was only $250,000? I believe that they split the $1M from Roger 4 ways.

applejackson

Answer: They seized $4M and Alonzo's cut was $1M.

Bishop73

I believe you are mistaken. The box held $4M originally. Alonzo hands out a bundle of cash that he says is $250,000. And the dialog is Alonzo: there's over $4M dollars in here! You lucky prick! First day on the job you hit a three million dollar seizure" Jake: " Wait, you said Four..." Alonzo: "Aha, taxation without representation, brotha. Nothing's free in this world. Buy your wife a mini van, put the kids through college"

Answer: From Wikipedia plot summary: Four million dollars was taken from Roger's house. That would make Alonzo's share $1 million.

Please see other reply. If you actually watch the movie, that isn't correct.

Question: Why didn't Dumbledore apprehend Grindelwald at the end? He saw the blood pact was broken, and he had loads of backup, instead he just walks off and lets him escape.

Answer: Dumbledore, as a Hogwarts professor, did not have any legal authority to apprehend Grindelwald or anyone else. That was up to the magical authorities. Also, this was meant to be a four-part (and possibly five-part) movie series that continued the story leading up to Dumbledore and Grindelwald's final duel. The third movie underperformed financially, so the further sequels were cancelled, leaving the storyline incomplete.

raywest

But in the Crimes of Grindelwald, Travers - Head of Magical Law Enforcement for the Ministry personally asks Dumbledore to fight Grindelwald. Then immediately after in the film loads of people attack Grindelwald including Kama who doesn't work for any magical authority?

Kama and the others made their own decision to do that, whether or not they had the authority. Dumbledore obviously felt it wasn't his responsibility to apprehend Grindelwald or lacked the will, particularly considering their mutual history.

Question: Why did Lily never accept Snape's apology for calling her a mudblood? He never meant it as it was said in the heat of the moment.

Answer: I think it was Hermione who said "it's the worst thing you can say. It means dirty blood" Lily is deeply hurt by Snape saying it. It's similar to a modern day argument. Some things just can't be taken aback.

Ssiscool

Good answer. Would add that Lily's hurt and disgust also stemmed from Snape calling her that after she had befriended and defended him against cruel students, including James Potter and Sirius Black. Snape turning on her that way and his increasing dark beliefs were too much for Lily.

raywest

Answer: Remember how enraged Ron got when someone called Hermione that? I get the impression 'mudblood' is the wizarding equivalent of the N word, and there are just some things you can't take back.

Brian Katcher

This is a good answer. It also should be noted Snape was already on thin ice with Lily as he was into dark arts, showed signs of intent to become a death eater, not to mention according to Lily he had been calling others of her birth the same name. This was the straw that broke the camel's back for her.

Answer: Rather than "heat of the moment", it was more like "the straw that broke the camel's back." Snape was friends with other pure-blood supremacists, who would later become Death Eaters. They bullied Muggle-borns. In the book, she asks him: "But you call everyone of my birth 'Mudblood', Severus. Why should I be any different?" Essentially, Snape had chosen his supremacist friends over her. He refused to stop joining in their behavior.

Question: How was Alonzo going to square a debt of $1M to the Russians when his cut of the take from Roger was $250,000?

Answer: From Wikipedia: His cut was one quarter of the $4 million that was seized from Roger's house. That would be $1 million.

raywest

They stole a total of $1M from Roger, the box held $4M. They kept $1M and the remaining $3M was evidence. The fruits of the bust. Alonzo handed Jake and Jeff each $250,000. Granted, Jake didn't accept his share but there were 3 other dirty cops and everyone except Jake took a cut. It doesn't add up.

Jaws (1975)

Question: Why is Quint's belt buckle undone and he is zipping up his pants as Hooper talks about his girlfriend who broke his heart. Was he showing off another scar, and they cut that scene out?

Answer: Yes, that part was edited out. As I remember it from the theatrical version, Quint had shown Hooper and Brody a scar below his waist, then was buckling his belt just as Hooper started talking about his "broken heart." This scene and others were likely edited to fit a TV time slot and allow for commercials.

Question: When Shelby invites Annell to her reception and offers her something to wear, she says she's going to call the house. Who would she be calling? There was no-one there except Drum and the boys outside and the reception staff.

Answer: One possibility is that Shelby is calling a wedding coordinator or a relative at the house where the reception is being held. Someone like Jackson's Aunt Fern or Shelby's brothers could fetch an outfit from Shelby's closet and bring it to Truvy's shop.

Question: When Phoebe's mom died she went and lived on the street. But why? I am sure they had a house. Why would someone take it away from them? And what about her Grandmother?

Answer: Any answer would be a guess, it's never explained. But she mostly likely ran away from home and lived on the streets and later reconnected with her grandmother.

Answer: It's unlikely Phoebe's surrogate mother, Lily, owned a house. They lived in NYC, had little money, and probably rented a cheap apartment. Young Phoebe would be unable to support herself after Lily's suicide. It's unknown why Phoebe did not immediately go to live with her adoptive grandmother, Frances, but there appeared to be a rift between Lily and her mother. Frances may not have known right away that Phoebe was left homeless and assumed she and her twin sister, Ursula, were with their blood relatives. Phoebe, still a minor, may have run away to avoid being placed in foster care, and later lived with Frances.

raywest

Answer: According to Phoebe her mother had severe mental problems. It could be that had a house but lost it because of it, they lived on the streets and sometime later after her mother died she went to live with her grandmother. They could have lived with her grandmother, but the mother's mental problems drove her out. Either way Phoebe would want be with her to take care of her.

I don't believe it likely Phoebe and her mother would have been on the streets / homeless at the time of her mother's suicide. Multiple times in the series Phoebe explicitly states that her mom committed suicide by putting her head in an oven / was "in the kitchen." The context and phrasing as Phoebe describes it strongly implies they were in their house at the time.

Short Circuit (1986)

Question: I thought the movie was supposed to take place in Oregon? In several scenes, specifically when NOVA shows up to collect Number 5 the first time, multiple vehicles can be seen with Washington state license plates. Also, you can see a ferry in the background in what appears to be Puget Sound. (00:43:50 - 00:49:20)

Answer: Astoria, Oregon is just across from Washington state on the Columbia River. The Highway 101 bridge connects Washington to Astoria, and it takes mere minutes to cross. Unlike Washington, Oregon has no state sales tax, so many Washingtonians who live near the border shop there, and their cars would be seen. Also, there are several vintage paddlewheel river boats belonging to a river cruise company based in Astoria. From a distance, they are a similar size, shape, and white color as a Puget Sound ferry. That is probably what you saw cruising on the Columbia River.

raywest

Answer: Johnny 5 finds himself in Astoria, Oregon after escaping. However, NOVA Laboratories is located in Washington State. I'm not sure about Puget Sound though since filming in Washington took place in Stevenson, where NOVA is supposed to be located.

Question: How come Hermione didn't say something comforting to Hagrid as they we're leaving before the execution like Harry did? It seems a bit out of character for her.

Answer: Hagrid wants them to leave quickly, before the executioner and the Minister of Magic arrive. Also, Hermione may not have known what to say. One of Hagrid's beloved pets is about to be executed - what could anyone say to make him feel better about it?

Answer: It's not about Hermione. This has to do with filmmaking. The scene was constructed to maintain the pacing, timing, and the mood, which quickly changes when the execution party suddenly arrives at the hut and the Trio rushes out. Harry expressed what all three were thinking. Having each character say something to Hagrid, would just slow the action with unnecessary dialogue. There may have been more to the scene when it was originally filmed, but editing often deletes excess details, for the reasons stated above. Movies, in particular, have details eliminated during post-production editing.

Question: Why is Han still wanted by Jabba in this movie? I'd got the impression that at the end of the first movie he'd been paid adequately by the Rebel Alliance for delivering Princess Leia and the Death Star plans and that he was going to use it to pay Jabba back. Why didn't Han pay Jabba back after the destruction of the Death Star?

Answer: He may have got his reward, but he never went back to pay off Jabba. If you recall everyone referred to him as General Solo, which means he stayed with them, especially for Princess Leia. Being gone for so long, Jabba put the bounty on him. If you recall, in Return of the Jedi, after he was thawed, Solo said, "I was on my way to pay you Jabba, but got sidetracked."

Answer: It could just be that he was irresponsible. I know people who will owe a debt or bill, but when they somehow get money that could pay it off, they spend the money on other things instead. Maybe he felt more secure by being with the Rebels, and became careless.

Answer: Han was paid by the Rebel Alliance, so he had the money. Why he never paid off Jabba is never explained in the movie. There's much Internet discussion about this, such as he became dedicated to the rebellion, didn't want to leave Leia, somehow lost the money, and so on, but it's mere speculation. This is a plot hole.

Question: How did the bad guys manage to sneak Kim and Amanda out of the apartment without being noticed?

Answer: It's not shown, but they probably drugged the girls and then put them into large trunks or boxes and posed as moving guys, probably using a back entrance or alley.

raywest

Answer: In addition to the other answer, it's likely that, since they always bring girls to the same apartment for the kidnappings, they have a deal with the owners of the place to look the other way and provide them an escape route free from observers.

The apartment belonged to Amanda's relatives who were away traveling. She had lied to Kim about it. The guy from the airport found out where they were staying by sharing the cab with them.

Question: Why did Ollivander pause for a moment after getting the third wand for Harry to try?

Answer: Because Ollivander, like everyone, knew about the connection between Harry and Voldemort. He had a sudden thought that the "brother" to Voldemort's wand might be destined to be Harry's wand. The two wands shared the same core material (a phoenix feather supplied by Fawkes). The wand chooses the wizard.
