Question: How long exactly has Belle been imprisoned in the Beast's castle? Asking because the first movie didn't look like Christmas was being celebrated by anyone.

Answer: It's unknown how long Belle was at the castle. This sequel, The Enchanted Christmas, was made as an afterthought to the original Beauty and the Beast film, and there was no consideration or explanation about how this would fit into the original timeline. This is a stand-alone film, and it is typical of how the more popular Disney animated films, such as The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, etc. have added-on stories that are usually released straight-to-video.

The Village (2004)

Question: I recently watched this movie again and realised I don't know why the Percy family was in grief counseling. Is it said in the movie? I remember the rest: the father was killed by his partner, the husband was murdered and left naked, the sister was raped and killed, the brother was killed trying to help in the emergency room, but I don't know why the Percy family was there.

Answer: Not every elders' story was told. Towards the end, the montage of voices explaining what tragedy had befallen their loved ones was only meant to reveal to the audience the reason why the village came into existence. It is unnecessary for us to know each person's personal history but only that they wanted to escape societal violence. As they all belonged to the same grief support group, it is assumed the Percys also lost a loved one through an act of violence.

Answer: I would say she is roughly around for a year as the first scenes of the movie during the song Belle show a scenary of France in Spring. They they then spend winter in the castle and it is Spring again when the curse breaks.

Answer: It wasn't specified how long she was there.

raywest

Chosen answer: Hermione did not cry that often during the series. When she did, it was minimal. Actors can become so immersed in the scene that they feel the emotions they are portraying and produce real tears. Actors also use eye drops to simulate crying.

Question: When Johanna is ranting about setting fire to Snow's backyard, you can hear what sounds like a cell phone ringing. Any explanation?

Patty Morado

Chosen answer: There is no explanation. They did have electrical devices, so this could be attributed to any number of things that make ringing or buzzing noises in the background.

raywest

Chosen answer: They stayed behind the pumpkins until they were sure no one would see them. As for when they were running up the hill, they are kids and act on impulse when in a difficult situation. Most likely they were not thinking about what they would see or Hermione's reaction to it.

Question: How can the villagers forget about the Prince and his castle after they were cursed?

Answer: No explanation was given. It may have been that part of the curse affected those peoples' memories. The villagers may also have simply chosen to forget out fear, they believed the castle had been abandoned or was haunted, or possibly enough time had passed that it simply was ignored.

raywest

Answer: The Narrator said, "A spell was cast so that the villagers and anyone who knew of the Prince and the Castle would forget about it." When the spell was broken, the villagers could be heard saying, "there you are", "where have you been", "I remember you."

Hacksaw Ridge (2016)

Question: Why did the Japanese man at the end kill himself?

MikeH

Chosen answer: Japan's culture is complex and has a long history of ritual suicide ingrained within it. For Japanese, this practice was often expected of someone who had somehow failed, shamed, or otherwise dishonored themselves, their family, their country, and so on. Historically, suicide was also committed by servants after their master died, by Samurai widows, or when people were defeated by their enemies. At the end of WWII, many Japanese soldiers and civilians committed suicide rather than surrender.

Brigadoon (1954)

Question: Can someone explain to me how the enchantment over the village works? I haven't seen the movie for a while, but when Fiona takes Tommy and Jeff to see the teacher who tells them the story of how the place became magical, he says something about the village waking up every hundred years. So is every day a hundred years later in the real world and only a day to them? It just seems strange that Charlie and Jean would wait hundreds of years to get married, and after Harry dies, Fiona's dad says that everyone can find out in the next morning (which would be a hundred years later). Also when Tommy comes back at the end, the village comes to life again even though it disappeared into the mist when him and Jeff were leaving to go back to New York.

Answer: The way it works is, the village comes to life for one day once every one hundred years. It is not the same day over and over. It is always one day forward. For example if the one full day that the village came alive was on June 1st, then after one hundred years, the next day would be June 2nd, then another one hundred years, June 3rd, and so on. Each time the villagers awaken, the passage of time to them is always like only one day had passed.

Groundhog Day (1993)

Question: Phil is unable to leave Punxsutawney after his broadcast because of the blizzard. Has there ever been any explanation as to why he doesn't try to leave Punxsutawney as soon as he wakes up? I'm sure the time loop would have still been in effect, but unless I'm mistaken, the movie never addresses whether or not Phil ever tried to leave town before the roads were closed.

Phaneron

Chosen answer: As you stated, it's never addressed as to whether or not he attempted to leave town. Phil lived through many more days than is shown in the film, so it's possible he left at some point, though there's little reason for him to do so because he wouldn't get far, and, when he wakes up the next morning, he'll be right back in the town.

raywest

Chosen answer: Earlier, Malfoy had called Hermione a "mudblood," which is a very derogatory remark directed at Muggle-born wizards. (Hermione's parents were both non-magical). She was upset and crying a little when Harry and Ron were telling Hagrid about what happened.

Question: What I don't get is that if Thalia's tree had the barrier active all along while Luke, Annabeth, and Grover were kids, in the first film, how was the minotaur able to approach close to the entrance of the camp without being prevented?

Roman Curiel

Chosen answer: Thalia's tree was poisoned, weakening it, and leaving the camp vulnerable to attack. The quest for the Golden Fleece was to provide a cure.

raywest

Answer: Because the barrier prevents the monsters from entering the camp, not from getting close to it. It's the reason why after Percy used the fleece to strengthen the barrier, Luke and Kronos' army used the labyrinth to bypass it.

Question: When the Rebels are evacuating from Hoth, Luke says goodbye to Han. Then we don't see him until he's running to his Snowspeeder. In that time, Vader has found out that Ozzel has messed up and promoted Piett, General Rieekan sends the transports out and one gets past. What was Luke doing in all that time?

Declan Murphy

Chosen answer: It's unknown what Luke was doing because nothing is shown. Any answer is speculation. Also, you are viewing the scene as a linear timeline, with events happening one after the other. In movies, the action often jumps back-and-forth and is unfolding simultaneously. The on-screen timeline can be more compressed than it appears.

Chosen answer: Women love shoes, which are often expensive, and they can get upset if something ruins them.

Pacific Heights (1990)

Question: Why was Carter deliberately causing enough commotion to drive the other tenants out?

Answer: If there are no other tenants, it means a loss of income for the owners. Carter, meanwhile was destroying the other apartment, making it useless to rent out. Patty and Drake need the income from both apartments that they are renting out in order to pay the monthly mortgage on their Victorian house.

High Spirits (1988)

Question: Sharon Crawford's maiden name is Brogan and mentions that her father was born in Ireland and Martin's last name is Brogan... So, are they related?

Diane Muñoz

Chosen answer: It was never stated that she was, but most likely she is Martin Brogan's descendant.

Question: This question may sound dumb, but nevertheless. When Obi-Wan confronts Anakin on Mustafar, he says "Only a Sith deals in absolutes", and ignites his lightsaber, basically challenging Anakin. The question is, why? Obi-Wan's chosen his ways with the force, why can't Anakin? Most Jedi have already been killed throughout the galaxy, so Obi-Wan doesn't have much else to lose (except one of his only friends left that he's basically trying to discard in a duel). Anakin's trying to use the Dark Side to save Padme, so why can't Obi-Wan just let go of the fact that Anakin has chosen his ways, become a Sith (with Anakin seeing the better-good in it), and just let Anakin get on with his life?

Answer: Obi Wan letting Anakin "go his own way" would be sanctioning the emperor's evil plan and allowing the resulting massive deaths and suppression of personal freedom. Condoning others being murdered just to save Padme is an unacceptable justification to any Jedi Knight. It's like someone saying why couldn't Hitler just have gone his own way, resulting in his continued extermination and enslavement of millions of of innocent people.

Question: In a deleted/extended scene Edward attacks Jacob when Jacob reveals through his thoughts that he imprinted on Renesmee. Minutes later when Jacob stops Sam and the wolf pack from killing her by showing them that he imprinted, Edward reveals this to the rest of his family but the way he says it makes it sound like he didn't already know. Is this a mistake since the previous scene was cut from the final version of the film?

Answer: I've seen both versions (the theatrical and the extended scene), and I think it is a matter of the viewer's interpretation. When Edward is translating to the others that Jacob has imprinted on Renesmee, it sounds relatively neutral, meaning it could be surmised that yes, Edward already knew about Jacob having imprinted, or else, he is explaining it as he reads Jacob's thoughts. Edward, technically, would learn this knowledge before he spoke to the others, even if it was just a few seconds beforehand. He would hear Jacob's thoughts, internalize it, then relay what he knew.

Primal Fear (1996)

Question: At the end of the movie, it's discovered that "Aaron" was actually faking a split personality. What would have been the legal ramifications if Martin were to tell his superiors the truth?

Answer: Nothing if he is telling superiors within the law practice he is associated with. Outside it, he would be legally bound by attorney/client privilege. He could be disbarred if he ever shared that information.

raywest

I'm sorry. I forgot to add to the question of what would have happened if he had chosen to ignore attorney/client privilege. If he discarded attorney/client privilege, would there have been any legal actions against him and Roy?

General questions

I remember a movie where two women were training to be lawyers or cops. The teacher assigned the class unsolved cases as a test. The two women got one about stolen sheets or towels from an industrial laundry. They tracked the guy down and got a confession out of him. He said "are you going to arrest me?" and they replied "No, we're not cops. We are only in training." Think this movie is mid 90s.

The_Iceman

Chosen answer: This sounds like the 1988 light-comedy film, "Feds," starring Rebecca DeMornay and Mary Gross as two unlikely F.B.I. trainees who support each other through the rigorous program.
