Serenity (2005)

Question: At the beginning of the film, Simon gives Mal an injection in the sick bay. What is this for?

Brad

Chosen answer: Answering my own question: In the script, Mall specifies that it is an inoculation for the planet's atmosphere.

Question: Barbossa tells Sao Feng about Calypso to win him over to their side. Feng, mistakenly believing that Elizabeth is Calypso, wants Calypso for himself. Barbossa knows that Elizabeth isn't Calypso, so why does he allow her to be handed over to Feng? And what assurance does he have that Elizabeth won't spill the beans that she's not Calypso? Surely, that would just get Feng mad at Barbossa and wouldn't help matters in the slightest.

Brad

Chosen answer: They need Feng on their side. Elizabeth and Barbossa are both willing to do whatever it takes to make that happen. If Feng is willing to help because he's smitten with Elizabeth, believing her to be Calypso, then that's how they'll play it.

Serenity (1) - S1-E11

Trivia: In the first scene when Mal is firing at the plane with the enemy's turret gun, if you look at the top center of the gun's display, you can see the Weyland-Yutani logo from the Alien films.

Easter egg: To activate the Omega 13 on the Main Menu, watch the movie then wait for the credits to roll out. When you get back to the menu, click the Omega 13 button and it will activate. NOTE: This will not work if you press the menu button after the movie ends. You have to let the credits roll.

National Treasure (2004)

Continuity mistake: In the scene where the group are revealing the cipher on the back of the Declaration of Independence, in a wide shot, we can see glass on the corners of the Declaration to keep it in place. When Abigail rubs the Q tip on the right corner, the glass is gone.

Show generally

Question: On the back of the complete series DVD I just purchased, it says there are 14 episodes plus 3 unaired ones. The episode guide only lists 15 episodes (counting both parts of Serenity). Is this a typo or is there something I'm missing?

Brad

Chosen answer: I think you're misreading it. The fourteen count is the overall total inclusive (e.g. the 11 aired episodes + the 3 unaired ones).

Spider-Man (2002)

Trivia: One of the early trailers for this movie featured bank robbers getting away in a helicopter, but getting stuck by Spider-Man's webbing in between the Twin Towers. After 9/11, the trailer was recalled, along with a subsequent poster featuring the Twin Towers' reflection in Spidey's eyes.

Easter egg: Go into the Bonus Features and click Backstage Disney. In this menu, there should be an image of a guinea pig in the right hand corner. To click it, go to the second option and hit right then down.

Trivia: Note how in the flashback to Royal Pain's demise, the breastplate is different than the costume she wears at the end of the movie. Done on purpose to conceal Royal Pain's identity, but still worth a look.

Collateral (2004)

Question: When Lenny calls the first time, Vincent looks at Annie's business card in the mirror and gives Max a look. Does this imply that Vincent knows that this is his last target? His conversation with Max about whether or not he should call Annie suggests otherwise, but I was curious.

Brad

Chosen answer: Vincent already knows that Annie is one of the targets on his "hit list." He was probably just surprised that Max had her business card.

Plot hole: In the scene where Sam and Carly are attempting to communicate to the military through the UAV drone, Sam tells them all about the Decepticons' plan to bring Cybertron into our atmosphere. But Sam was never there when Dylan explained the plan to Carly, and there was no time for Carly to have told him.

Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol trivia picture

Trivia: The number A113 (which appeared in Brad Bird's previous films The Incredibles and Ratatouille) makes two appearances here. The first is on the side of Hanaway's ring in the flashback sequence, and the second is verbally as Ethan's agent ID that he recites through the phone after he escapes from the hospital. (00:14:40)

Brad

Question: Are Carly's deceased brother (briefly glimpsed on a picture on Carly's dresser) and the British NEST soldier from Transformers 2 the same person?

Brad

Chosen answer: Yes, you can very briefly see him when Lennox is briefing everyone in the chopper, in the opening of Revenge of the Fallen.

Trivia: There are several newscasts throughout the film. During any one of these newscasts, take a look at the news stories on the ticker at the bottom of the screen. Almost all of them are somehow relevant to the movie's plot.

The Island (2005)

Question: Say that a client of Merrick Biotech, like Starkweather who used his policy and had it terminated, needs another one for whatever reason. They'd have to regrow a new Starkweather 2 Delta and reintroduce him into the colony and everyone would say "Hey, isn't that the guy who won the lottery a few days ago? What's he doing here?" How would Merrick account for that? Whitman even says to Lincoln that they were going to "regrow" his policy.

Brad

Chosen answer: It would be easy enough for the administrators to fabricate some story as to why the clone needed to return to the colony. Doctors would most likely implant fake memories into the new clone's mind to convince him and everyone else that this was the same person as before. Also, if a client should ever need a new clone many years after using their original one, it is likely that most of the other clones would no longer be there--having been harvested to meet their host's medical needs.

Continuity mistake: When Jacob and his pack meet with Sam's pack, Seth and Leah are standing behind Jacob the entire time. At the end of the scene, when Sam's pack leaves, we cut to a shot of Jacob from the same angle as the previous shots where Seth and Leah were, and they are gone, with no indication that they left.

In Time (2011)

Continuity mistake: In the scene where Will is eating at the hotel, Sylvia is in the background. Several times her position changes oddly, but a second or two between shots technically makes the changes feasible, if implausible. Towards the end of the scene, though, between angles her position changes from her head looking down, with her bodyguard 10 feet away, to her head straightened and the bodyguard beside her.

Brad

Question: Okay, so if all the male werewolves wear nothing but shorts so they have less clothes to destroy, how come Leah still wears a shirt? It just seems that as a werewolf, she wouldn't care about nudity any more then her packmates. And, yes, I am aware they couldn't show her naked for the PG-13 rating. I'm looking for the in-universe answer.

Brad

Chosen answer: How do you know that she or anyone else "wouldn't care." Leah is the lone female shape-shifter among the males, and most women would feel extremely uncomfortable baring their breasts in that situation. Her male counter-parts would likely feel just as exposed and uncomfortable if they went without shorts in front of a group of women. It's a matter of decorum. Also, is a PG-rated movie. Nudity in movies usually results in an "R" rating, which limits the audience and revenue.
