In the next shot that shows them screaming, we can see they are driving totally normally judging by the view from the back window. (00:45:05)

But after Marge, Bart and Lisa have jumped into the sink hole and it cuts to a wide shot, Drederick Tatum is seen a lot further away from the sink hole than he was previously - look closely to the right of screen in the wide shot, that's where Tatum is.
