Trivia: The American uniform-disguised German troop is inspired by the actual operation "Greif" led by Otto Skorzeny. It did however not happen as in the movie; they where not dropped in parachutes but used captured jeeps. Only very few came through and even fewer had any success. Skorzeny had very little time for preparations, The shortage of men with language skills at the desired level was severe and he considered aborting the operation because several conditions of the plan had not been met. Rumours about the target of the task force were encouraged, one being that their target was Eisenhower's HQ in Paris.

Continuity mistake: Close to arriving to the French plantage, and also when leaving it, Captain Willards' helmet cover changes between a plain olive green and a camouflage.

Trivia: "Mark" in the film is in reality Mike Coburn, who wrote his own account of Bravo Two Zero. Another writer and ex-SAS, Michael Asher (in "The real Bravo Two Zero") travelled to the area of events and found a different truth than in "McNab's" book. For example that Andy McNab is not his real name, that the cab was not a New York cab but a Toyota Crown and that there is actually no evidence that the patrol ever got into any big fire fights at all. Names and cars are minor discrepancies but the fights are way off what could be called "real events". The film is rather true to the book by "McNab" but not all true to the real events as told by other members and fact finders.

Trivia: In the final scenes in the first move version (before the Director's Cut) Deckard and Rachael fly over a landscape. Ridley Scott had run out of funds and time when bad weather had ruined the shooting of the landscape, no possibility to get new shots. The scenes thus used were outtakes from intro scenes of The Shining. These shots were removed in the Director's Cut.

Factual error: Clooney refers to the rifle as an "M14". The Rüger Mini-14 is a different rifle than the M14 (used e.g. by the Marine Corps prior to the M16).

Factual error: The SS Officer is repeatedly addressed as "Herr Oberst". This is a Wehrmacht rank designation, and could possibly have been correct for them addressing an SS officer, but fellow SS officers would have used the correct term "Standartenführer" (without the "Herr"). On one occasion the lower rank SS officer is address as "Herr Leutnant" which is equally wrong, should be "(Ober)sturmführer"

Factual error: The attack on the OPEC meeting in Vienna takes place on December 21. Yet, when Carlos' team exits the tram, the trees are full with green summer leaves and the sun shines as it would on a high summer day.

Factual error: The commanding SS officer at the church massacre is incorrectly addressed "Herr Major". Although his rank does correspond to that of a Wehrmacht major, the correct address is "Sturmbannführer" (and not with "Herr", in the SS officers were addressed with rank only).

Other mistake: Blondie suffers from severe sun burn wounds in the face, after the capture and dragging through the desert. The wounds look perfectly realistic, but disappear or change several times. The burns are completely gone shortly after leaving the monastery. Such burns would leave scars and traces for at least weeks.

Factual error: Kovic is in the Marines. "Choppers" are called "Helos" in the Marines, and a "Medic" is called "Corpsman". Kovic uses the Army terms.

Trivia: The officer speaking French is true to historical facts: it was mainly the French Foreign Legion fighting in Indochina at the time. However, the troops were predominantly of German origin (ex Wehrmacht and SS soldiers) and there is no detectable German accent in their French. True, this could be a fully French unit, thus no mistake. In live movies and interviews from the time, German accents in French are common.

Continuity mistake: In the first flight scene, looking out from the cockpit, some ordnance is visible on the wings. Later, viewing the plane from the outside, there is no ordnance, only fuel tanks.

Trivia: The movie is based on a true story. Dieter Dengler was born in Germany just before WWII, and eventually left for the US. He told this story in the book "Little Dieter Needs to Fly" and a 1997 film (Werner Herzog) with the same same.
