Blade Runner

Trivia: At the end, Batty gives his 'a time to die' speech on the roof. Rutger Hauer made up the speech himself, between an hour and half an hour before filming the scene. (01:46:15)

Trivia: In the scene where Ford and the other policeman take off in a police car, there is a shot of the inside of the car showing a computer screen with a flashing word "purge" on it. The screen was originally used in "Alien" when Ripley set off the shuttle to escape from Nostromo. (00:10:30)

Trivia: In the scene where Daryl Hannah is startled by William Sanderson outside his home, she runs away toward his parked van and breaks a door window when she collides with it. If you look carefully you can see her slip off the wet curb at the same time. This was a real accident and Daryl Hannah continued with the scene because no one realized it at the time and Ridley Scott didn't yell,"Cut". (00:38:38)

Trivia: The entire ending of the film, and other parts of the film was altered at the last minute. The test preview did not get the reaction the head of the studio paying for the film wanted. The audience just didn't get what Ridley Scott was calling "The dark side of comic strip" so they took control, and collaborating with Ridley Scott changed it to what it is today. 25 years on Ridley Scott re-released the original ending in September 2007.

Trivia: Look at Priss' incept date, when shown on the monitor. It's the 14th of february 2016. Being the "basic pleasure model", she was born on Valentine's Day, of course. (00:15:30)

Trivia: The chess game between Tyrell and Sebastian uses the conclusion of a game played between Anderssen and Kieseritzky, in London in 1851. It is considered one of the most brilliant games ever played, and is universally known as "The Immortal Game". (01:21:15)

Trivia: When Deckard calls Rachel from the bar, he converses with her for roughly thirty seconds and then hangs up. The total cost of the call is $1.25, a possible comment on inflation perhaps?

Trivia: Dustin Hoffman was the original choice for the role of Deckard and was briefly cast in the role but dropped out. Director Ridley Scott then cast his second choice for the part, Harrison Ford.

Trivia: Though considered a classic now, it opened to poor reviews and poor box office sales.

Trivia: This is Ridley Scott's favorite film of his own, and the Final Cut released in 2007 is his favorite version.

Trivia: In the final scenes in the first move version (before the Director's Cut) Deckard and Rachael fly over a landscape. Ridley Scott had run out of funds and time when bad weather had ruined the shooting of the landscape, no possibility to get new shots. The scenes thus used were outtakes from intro scenes of The Shining. These shots were removed in the Director's Cut.

Trivia: The word "replicant" doesn't appear in the Phillip Dick novel.

Trivia: Just after Rachel asks Deckard that if she goes north, would he hunt her, he says no and then walks behind her. He is out of focus during this next part, but pay close attention as he says "but somebody would." His eyes can be seen glowing like the other replicants in that light, which is one of the clues people say leads them to believe he is also a replicant. (01:06:40)

Trivia: Whenever Deckard occupies his room there is a low/high hum if you listen very carefully! This sound is very like or if not the very same low hum that can be heard on the Nostromo in the first Alien movie (1979). (00:31:30)

Suggested correction: I'd always assumed it was from Alien, too, but years later I discovered that sound effect actually came from The Empire Strikes Back! Specifically when Luke is searching for Darth Vader in the dark corridors underneath Cloud City near the climax.

Trivia: Rutger Hauer was never convinced that Replicants were truly people, as he said in 2015 about the movie's ending: "Frankly, I thought Deckard was a little sick, because he ran away with a vibrator that looked like a woman."

Trivia: Daryl Hannah is a skilled gymnast (check out the casual ease with which she does a backflip while talking to Sebastian) and under normal conditions was perfectly capable of performing the rapid flips seen during her fight scene with Deckard, but by then she was too sore and exhausted to pull them off perfectly. This is partly why they resorted to using a male stunt double in this scene, he was the only one immediately available who could do those flips exactly as needed.

Trivia: When filming the scene where Roy confronts Tyrell, Rutger Hauer surprised Joe Turkel by kissing him on the lips, an unscripted action. Ever the professional, Turkel rolled with it and even gave Hauer a surprise of his own: by slipping in his tongue.

Trivia: Harrison Ford has said that director Ridley Scott used "psychological manipulation" on Sean Young. While he refused to get specific, some of Young's complaints that the cast and crew (Ford especially) seemed to hate her for no apparent reason echo Sigourney Weaver's experience on Alien, in which Ridley Scott instructed the other cast members to act rude to her in order to affect her performance. Young has said she felt her treatment on set was tantamount to abuse and hated working on the film.

Continuity mistake: Deckard shoots Zhora twice. Both times she is shot, you can see the wound explode out of her right shoulder. But moments later when she is on the ground dead, she is face down and you can see a bullet wound on both right and left shoulders. (00:58:50)

Question: When Roy confronts Tyrell, he says something that I'm having difficulty figuring out. The captions read that he is saying "I want more life... father!" But to me, and I've listened to that part over and over trying to figure it out, it sounds like he is saying "I want more life... fucker!" So is he saying Father, or Fucker?

Quantom X

Chosen answer: It's a more complicated question than you might think. Two versions of the scene were filmed, the main one, where Roy says "fucker" and an alternate, originally intended for use on television, where he says "father." Different versions of the movie use different takes. Of the three best known variants, the original theatrical release and the inaccurately-named Director's Cut both use the "fucker" line, whereas the Final Cut, the only one that Ridley Scott had full control over, uses the "father" line. What he's saying will depend on which version of the movie you were watching. Only you can answer that one.
