Mistakes in the IMDb top 250 - page 9

Continuity mistake: Near the beginning, when Ethan Hawke is talking about his travels while in the lounge car ("I had a friend in Madrid"), he's got his hands clasped in front of him, then the camera cuts to the woman, and his hand is outstretched, holding a salt cellar.

Continuity mistake: Agatha's nightgown strap switches between hanging down on her arm, or being up on her shoulder, normally.

184: Ben-Hur

Ben-Hur mistake picture

Continuity mistake: Judah Ben-Hur removes the large ring he had received from Arrius and gives it to Pontius Pilate to return to Arrius. Following this, he returns to the leper colony with Esther, and he reunites with Miriam. When Judah is told Tirzah is dying, as Judah searches the cave for Tirzah, he is once again wearing the large ring he had received from Arrius, on his right index finger. Then, that ring vanishes when he finds Tirzah.

Suggested correction: Ben Hur got the ring from Arrius, not from the Emperor. When he goes to the leper colony the first time he is still wearing the ring. Later he gives the ring to Pontius Pilate to return it to Arrius. Then, when he goes to the leper colony the second time he is not wearing the ring anymore.

Aside from changing the mistake's wording to Arrius, the mistake is indeed correct. Rewatch the scenes. Judah Ben-Hur takes off the large ring he had received from Arrius and gives it to Pontius Pilate to return to Arrius. After that scene, he meets with Esther, and they both return to the leper colony. Judah speaks with Miriam, his mother, and he's told Tirzah is dying. Then, as Judah begins to search the cave for Tirzah, Judah is now wearing the large ring he had received from Arrius, on his right index finger. That ring vanishes when he finds Tirzah. The mistake is quite valid.

185: Gone Girl

Gone Girl mistake picture

Continuity mistake: When Amy kills Desi by slaughtering him, the amount of blood on her left shoulder disappears and reappears, depending on the shot.

On the Waterfront mistake picture Video

Continuity mistake: During the start of the famous "I coulda been a contender" scene, watch Terry's head. When he tells Charlie that "it was you", his head is tilted to the left. In the next shot, it's tilted to the right.

Factual error: While Stanley Kubrick boasted about the authenticity of the candlelit interiors, he must have missed the little drawing of a steam train on a period map - 40 years before trains were invented.

Continuity mistake: When Annabelle is helping Johnny fill the locomotive water tank, the water spout comes loose and Annabelle gets soaked. A few seconds later, her hair and clothes are completely dry again. (Later, in her memoirs, Marion Mack said she was not told this would happen and it was a complete surprise to her!). (00:51:00)

Factual error: When the convictions are overturned, the defendants' solicitor, Gareth Pearce (played by Emma Thompson) is shown arguing their case in court. In England solicitors cannot appear in the higher courts, and in fact a barrister presented the case. However, the film is 'dramatically correct' because it was Gareth Pearce who got them freed, and the barrister in question is far too full of herself without having the honour of being portrayed by Emma T.

Factual error: The boys go deer hunting somewhere in the Appalachians, but the geology is all wrong. That scene is in North Cascades National Park in Washington State. In addition, the "deer" they are hunting is a Red Stag. Not typically found in the Appalachians.

Suggested correction: Part of the scenery is the North Cascades, including the first mountain shot, Mount Baker, south of the Canadian border.

Someone notes that "Red Stags are not typically found in the Appalachians." In reality, there are no wild red stags in the Eastern US, or anywhere in the US, or in North America, or even in the Western Hemisphere. Red stags are native to most of Europe, the Caucasus Mountains region, Anatolia, Iran, and parts of Western Asia. It also inhabits the Atlas Mountains of Northern Africa.

Thank you! Growing up in Pennsylvania and hunting deer since the age of ten - The use of the Red Stag in the last scene always bothered me. No trained White Tails, I guess. Great movie other than that.

Hacksaw Ridge mistake picture

Continuity mistake: When the Privates are having their furloughs authorised, Colonel Sangston walks in with Corporal Cannon. Only those two men walk in. Corporal Cannon moves from the doorway to give Desmond Doss his rifle leaving no-one by the doorway. After Desmond refuses to touch the rifle, the Colonel shouts at Desmond. Out of nowhere Captain Glover mysteriously appears in the doorway. (00:48:40 - 00:50:10)

Pie Man

Continuity mistake: When the butler tells of Harry Lime's death, at the start of the conversation he can hardly speak English. As the conversation goes on, his English gets better and better, until at the end it's perfect with just an accent.

Suggested correction: He is reluctant to speak English at the start possibly to avoid trouble but later decides otherwise.

LordKelvin

Character mistake: The letter from the FBI containing the results of the blood and semen test is filled with numerous typos. First, on the line "Subject: Result of examination requested", the word "examination" is misspelled "examnation." Second, the term "DNA instrumental analyses" has "instrumental" incorrectly spelled as "insrumental." Third, the line "Reference: Letter dated October 21, 1987", has the word "dated" misspelled as "dateed" and the month "October" misspelled as "Octorber." (01:58:35)

Casual Person

Factual error: The filibuster scene gives the impression that the Senators were powerless to stop Jefferson Smith's speech. However, they can make a speaker shut up if at least 3/5 of the Senators vote to. From the Senators' reactions, a lot of them probably would have voted to silence Smith. (Clearly, if this had happened, the movie would be much less interesting).

Mad Max: Fury Road mistake picture

Continuity mistake: In the final chase, we see Max taking the arrow out of his hand and Furiosa pulling the knife out of herself. A few shots later, Furiosa is changing gears and moving the rig to the left of Max's rig. In that shot, the knife is still lodged in her body. (01:39:40)

dishant07

Factual error: The film takes place in a private boarding school the 1950's, however one of the students is studying from a 1980's chemistry textbook. The obvious giveaway is that the spine of one book shows HBJ as the publisher. Jovanovich was not added to Harcourt Brace until the 1970s.

Continuity mistake: When Mary first opens the phone book at the post office she lands on Finklestein but when she puts her finger on the name she chooses it as Hororwitz, even though she never turned the page again.

Monsters, Inc. mistake picture

Continuity mistake: When Sulley places the menu on the table he puts it face down (logo first), then when he lifts up the table, to quickly get Boo, the menu is face up. (00:26:05)

T1969

How to Train Your Dragon mistake picture

Continuity mistake: When Hiccup tries to lure Toothless with the fish, he drops his knife on the ground. In the next shot, the knife moves closer to him. (00:28:45)

204: Jaws

Jaws mistake picture

Continuity mistake: Hooper wears rimless eyeglasses, with the arms either attached at the upper corners of the lenses or at the sides of the lenses. If this didn't happen between shots within the same scenes, it could be presumed that Hooper has two different pairs of glasses and switches between the two, but they do indeed change between shots, such as when Mrs. Kintner slaps Brody, or even later, on the Orca. (00:36:05)

Super Grover

Factual error: In the last scene of the chess game, you can see that both the Knight and Death have castled. Castling was introduced to the game of chess in the 16th century, well after the film is set.
