Continuity mistake: When Rose first enters Silent Hill, she is forced to use a Zippo lighter to illuminate a series of darkened alleyways. However, during the course of the scene, the flame gets larger, to the point it is almost like a torch. While Zippo lighters do have adjustable wicks to make the flame smaller or larger, we never see Rose adjust the wick, nor is there any time for her to adjust it off-screen, as the scene is in real-time.

Trivia: Director Christophe Gans wanted to use the original soundtrack recordings of Akira Yamaoka's scores from the various "Silent Hill" video games in the film. However, due to a legality issue necessitating the hiring of a Canadian composer for the film, Jeff Danna was selected to serve as the lead credited composer. However, it was later confirmed that he actually composed very little original music for the film, and instead mainly focused on created re-mixes and new recordings of the themes from the video-games, so that he and director Gans could preserve Akira Yamaoka's music and style as much as possible.

Question: Why exactly does the radio in the movie (and the game) react with static when a monster approaches? I've never been able to figure this out.

Answer: It's either simply the same phenomenon explored in the film "White Noise," or it could be Dark Alessa warning them. She doesn't want the mother to be killed; but she does need to refine the mother's will, for the final conrontation with Christabella, with tests of emotional and physical endurance.
