Sharon (Jodelle Ferland) is a little girl who sleepwalks; lately they've been getting worse. She keeps mentioning the same thing in her trances: Silent Hill. Over the protests of her husband (Sean Bean), Rose (Radha Mitchell) flees with her child to Silent Hill. She ends up driving through a "portal in reality", which takes her to the eerie and deserted town of Silent Hill. Sharon disappears in Silent Hill, and Rose follows what she thinks is her daughter's silhouette all over town. It's soon clear the town is not like any place she's ever been. It's inhabited by a variety of creatures and a living darkness that descends and literally transforms everything it touches. The human inhabitants - the ones who are left - are trapped and fighting a losing battle against the Darkness. Joined by a cop named Cybil (Laurie Holden), who was pulled in with her, Rose searches for her little girl while learning the history of Silent Hill, and that Sharon is just a pawn in a larger game.

Trivia: Director Christophe Gans wanted to use the original soundtrack recordings of Akira Yamaoka's scores from the various "Silent Hill" video games in the film. However, due to a legality issue necessitating the hiring of a Canadian composer for the film, Jeff Danna was selected to serve as the lead credited composer. However, it was later confirmed that he actually composed very little original music for the film, and instead mainly focused on created re-mixes and new recordings of the themes from the video-games, so that he and director Gans could preserve Akira Yamaoka's music and style as much as possible.
Question: When the town first turns into "Dark Silent Hill", you can briefly see some sort of monster behind rose that shoots skyward. What monster is this? Is it Red Pyramid?
Answer: I would like to point out that Michele is very much correct. I submitted this question years and years ago, and it was based on my foggy memory of seeing the film for the first time in theaters. I've since watched the film a number of times on DVD and Blu-Ray, and it definitely is just pieces of the ground floating upwards through the air.

Answer: I thought it was just big pieces of the ground shooting upward. I didn't see pyramid head there at that time. Just pieces of silent hill shooting upward.
