A Simple Favor picture

Stupidity: Stephanie empties Emily's large closet, but when she comes back with the movers, lo and behold, all of the dead person's belongings are back. They are back though exactly as they were with superhuman inch-perfect precision. Since this movie does not have a supernatural element, that appears really silly. (01:00:30)

The Pledge picture

Stupidity: The end fell apart. It took convincing to get the police at the picnic area; however, while Jack was cracking up, they just left alone with his gun. After the stakeout was a bust, why didn't the police just question the girl: "Who told you to come here? Who was to meet you here?" Also, they police see a smashed black station-wagon. Was there no connection to the previous child's drawing?

Fear picture

Stupidity: In real life, David beating Gary would be a very big deal since it happened in front of many witnessed and on school property. He would at the very least be arrested or detained sooner or later, if not immediately, for things like assault and possibly reckless endangerment, and could very well have a lawsuit filed against him.

Murder at 1600 picture

Stupidity: Anyone with a job in the White House would have to be known to the Secret Service on a daily basis, so the two Secret Service agents that find Cory the janitor should have been aware of his identity without him having to state who he was and that he worked there.

The Skulls picture

Stupidity: The premise that Will's death could be covered up as a staged suicide is preposterously absurd. Not only is there video proof that he was murdered, but at least two well-connected people, including a sitting U.S. Senator and a federal judge, know about it.

Focus picture

Stupidity: With the threat of strangulating Jess, Garriga coerces a false confession from Nicky about the complicity of Jess. Garriga then laughs, calls Nicky out on it, and points out the confession's deficiencies. The film treats the whole scene as an astute reveal à la Sherlock Holmes! Nobody notices, let alone points out, that a coerced confession is worthless. In reality, Garriga would feel very stupid because he almost murdered someone. For the same reason, Jess must feel very angry.

Stupidity: Clavius has the disciples crawl through ditches to avoid the Roman soldiers. They cannot be seen by the soldiers, but they are kicking and stirring up so much dust as they move that it should have given them away.

Stowaway picture

Stupidity: Two things: 1. I find it inconceivable that there is only one Carbon Dioxide Removal Assembly (CDMA) and no spares for a two-year mission. 2. The crew has 20 days to fix an oxygen problem. The commander decides on a 10-day window. 5 days into that window they try to load oxygen from the Kingfisher spacecraft. One is lost into space. Zoe decides to go and fill the other one in the midst of a solar storm that will only last hours. Why take that chance? A few hours wait is still quite possible.

Becky picture

Stupidity: Becky possessed the mysterious key that the four neo-Nazi prison escapees were at the lake house to retrieve. Becky didn't know what the key was for, so did not have a vested interest in it. By first denying that she knew where the key was and later refusing to give it to Dominick, her father was killed. Had Becky simply handed over the key when Dominick asked for it, it is possible no-one would have been hurt/ killed. Becky keeping the key with no importance to her served to further the plot.

Django Unchained picture

Stupidity: So he can rescue his wife from slavery, Django comes up with a plan to buy Candie's most expensive fighter and then get him to throw her in for free. Why doesn't Django just offer to buy her directly? Surely there was some amount that Candie would agree to. Even racists like money.

Suggested correction: You missed the point of the plan. They knew if they went in asking to buy Broomhilda directly, Candie would set the price too high. They feigned interested in his best fighter and would get him to throw in Django's wife at a nominal price. They would then just pay the nominal price for Broomhilda and back out of buying the fighter. It's only when Candie is told Django and Broomhilda know each other did he raise the price for her.

Bishop73

Yes, Candie, not Candle. Stupid typo on my part. I disagree with the correction though in the sense of why would Candie raise the price before knowing that Broomhilda was Django's wife? You yourself said in your correction that he only did so when he found this out. They could still have offered to buy her initially.

wizard_of_gore

Because if they didn't feign interest in buying a fighter, Candie wouldn't have even invited them to his place. So the plan was to get him to throw her in for free, rather than risk him setting the price too high (or not even negotiating at all). Candie even figured out what their plan was.

And Then There Were None picture

Stupidity: Lombard has already figured out who the person on the beach is, and that therefore Vera is the only remaining suspect - yet not only he never tries to take his gun back, but he leads her to the beach keeping his back constantly turned to her. That's incoherent with what he knows and how he acts later. (01:28:00)

The Shawshank Redemption picture

Stupidity: Andy meets Tommy Williams who names another convict who described the scene of the murder of Andy's wife and her lover in sufficient detail to convince anyone that something was wrong with Andy's conviction. Andy then goes to the Warden, a man he knows to be utterly corrupt, a man who will suffer a huge loss if he is acquitted. Andy is an intelligent man - why would he do something as stupid as that? Why doesn't he write to his lawyer? This is a matter for an appeal court, not the Warden.

Family Dinner picture

Stupidity: Simi sets the wooden tepee structure on fire with Claudia next to it, and Claudia's clothes get engulfed in flames. Claudia continues to stand next to the fire, flailing her arms instead of following the commonly-known "learn not to burn" procedure that is taught to children: "Stop, drop, and roll" to extinguish the fire on one's clothes - and to stay away from fire. Hacksaw Ridge picture

Stupidity: When Doss buried the wounded soldier, leaving one eye out made no sense. It did nothing to help him. All it did was make it easier for the Japanese to spot him. It would've made sense to leave his nose and/or mouth out, so he could breathe. He did not need to see.

Suggested correction: A person who is unable to see is more likely to panic. When Doss buried the wounded Marine, he asked him to take a deep breath and trust him. By leaving one eye open, it allowed him to see the gravity of the situation as IJA soldiers walked by and maintain eye contact with Doss who hid under a dead Marine. After the suspicious IJA soldier bayoneted the body over Doss, he looked directly at where the wounded man was buried and kept walking. It was a crude method, but it likely saved them both.

Girl on the Third Floor picture

Stupidity: The marble somehow got under Don's skin at the bottom of his leg and was moving up the length of his body. Instead of heading off the marble in order to intercept and stop it from continuing up his leg, Don got a knife/box cutter and jabbed it into his skin near the bottom of his leg and trailed the marble, causing a long gash that served no purpose (other than creating a lot of blood and making a gory scene). The marble eventually exited his body via his eye. (01:04:40)

Backtrace picture

Stupidity: The metro police officer (and co-conspirator) went to the old cement factory where the other bank robbers were. Since the police officer (accomplice) wanted the money and did not want other police officers to be nearby, he called 911 and made an anonymous false report stating he spotted the person police were looking for and misdirected them further away. Maybe a good idea, but he made this call using his own cell phone. (01:12:20)

Stupidity: All of Robbie's circuits have been burned out as a result of Morbius ordering him to kill the Id monster. The crew only has 24 hours to get the ship loaded and a safe distance away from Altair IV before it explodes. But one or more of the crew spends the little time they have fixing Robbie, a very sophisticated piece of technology, who is working the controls at the end of the movie.

The Tiger Mask picture

Stupidity: The movie plot has a level of basic idiocy that the anime never had in any of its incarnations; Mr. X here is a scientist who made 3 unique masks that can be worn only by certain people with specific potential that are born"once in a lifetime", and raised 3 candidates out of maybe hundreds, for over 10 years of arduous training. One of them, Jo, out of jealousy attacks and cripples another. The mad scientist does absolutely nothing to stop the fight, that goes on for ages, nor punishes the rebel who did irreparable damage; in fact that aspect is never addressed at all and is as a normal case of "survival of the fittest." Later in the movie, Jo asks "permission" to hunt the third Tiger Mask, who meanwhile escaped. He didn't ask permission to destroy the most valuable asset of the gang, but he does for going after the traitor. X is also money-motivated and in a cutthroat competition against other branches, making his actions and inactions even more incomprehensible.
