Platoon

Barnes (Berenger) and Elias (Dafoe) confront each other deep in the jungle and Barnes shoots Elias, to avoid being court-marshalled for the incident at the Vietnamese village. As the platoon leaves the area, Taylor (Sheen) spots Elias running from the VC. They fail to rescue Elias, and after being shot several times, Elias falls to the ground and dies. Taylor suspects Barnes and becomes determined to kill him. Most of the soldiers breakdown in fear of their next battle. King (David) leaves. During the final battle, many of the cast are wiped out. Bunny (Dillon) is shot, and Junior (Johnson) gets stabbed to death. O'Neill (McGinley) hides behind a dead soldier. The Americans are losing the battle so the Captain orders an air strike. Barnes turns on Taylor and is about to kill him when the blast from the napalm strike blows Barnes away. Several hours later, Taylor wakes up to find Barnes alive and in need of medical attention. Taylor shoots and kills him. Taylor goes to the camp and gets flown out of Vietnam.

Matt Barnes

Visible crew/equipment: In the sequence where Sgt Elias is charging the VC with his M16 (near when he dies) there is a shot when the camera rolls through the jungle and you can see a cameraman behind a tree.

Chris Taylor: I think now, looking back, we did not fight the enemy; we fought ourselves. The enemy was in us. The war is over for me now, but it will always be there, the rest of my days. As I'm sure Elias will be, fighting with Barnes for what Rhah called "possession of my soul." There are times since, I've felt like a child, born of those two fathers.

Trivia: Director Oliver Stone claimed that the lead character of Chris was largely autobiographical and mirrored many of Stone's own experiences as a soldier in Vietnam.
