Emergency!

An Ounce of Prevention - S6-E13

Corrected entry: As Roy and the stagehand are bringing in the equipment to treat the shock victim Engine 51 rolls into the scene. Not enough time has passed for the engine to respond. They haven't even started treating the victim yet.

Correction: First, Cap and other guys at Station 51 were watching the live TV show, then heard the explosion happen live, so Engine 51 rolled out immediately and notified dispatch. Second, we don't know how far the set of the Tom Jensen Show is from Station 51. It cannot be a plot hole since we don't have the necessary information. All we know is Roy and John were cleared for 90 minutes. Third, when Jensen tells his live audience, "What you're witnessing is remarkable" John has already begun treating the victim with mouth-to-mouth resuscitation, while Roy and Jensen's guy go to wherever Squad 51 is parked outside, to get the stowed paramedic supplies. Then the shot dissolves (we don't know how much time goes by - 2, 3 minutes?) and cuts to Engine 51 arriving on scene, as Roy and Jensen's guy return with all the gear.

Engine 51 cannot just roll out since they saw it live. If they were the closest to the show, they would need to be dispatched to the fire. As we don't know where the show is, there may be another station closer.

Correction: When Billy Zimmer is introduced to Roy and John, what he actually says is, "Gentlemen, how do you do."

Corrected entry: Gage, DeSoto, and the crew are called to a serious truck/car fire accident scene, and are busy with putting the car fire out, while Gage helps DeSoto tend the wounded victims. The sky is overcast and cloudy, indicating rain possibly earlier in the day. This overcast remains during the hose-down. However, immediately after the fire is extinquished and both vehicles put out, the victims stabilized by ambulance, suddenly the day changes to bright sunlight and blue sky as Chief is calling in the OK.

Correction: Believe it or not, the weather can change that quickly in the Los Angeles basin. In late spring/early summer, an offshore marine layer often covers many locations near the coast with deep overcast overnight until late morning, when it can disappear very quickly - certainly in the hour or so it would take to put out a relatively small fire.

Women - S2-E9

Corrected entry: The sick child Dr. Joe and Dr. Mike are examining is supposed to be fatally poisoned, but his head changes position twice during subsequent shots.

Correction: If the child is only sick at the time, then, even if incurably poisoned, it doesn't stop them moving their head until they're actually dead.

To Buy or Not to Buy - S5-E14

Other mistake: On scene at the traffic accident, when the woman and the boy with non-serious injuries are seated at the back of the ambulance, neither Roy or Johnny are going along with them to Rampart, yet Johnny puts the drug box inside the back of the ambulance with them, and the ambulance drives off. With their drug box! Captain Stanley even says that he'll advise dispatch that they're available for a run at the scene, while the guys will be looking for the dog.

Trainee - S2-E8

Roy: I think you're on some sort of an ego trip, Ed. And in my book that makes you a very dangerous character.
Ed: [Laughs.] Ego trip, huh? Well, I didn't realize that psychiatry was part of the paramedic's training.
Roy: Oh that's good, Ed, you be funny. But that isn't gonna change anything. You wanna know what I figure? Well, I figure when you were working in Vietnam, it was rough. So rough you started playing over your head. And you were making it, you were doing real good. Considering it was a combat situation. And pretty soon you started getting all blown up about how Ed Marlowe is just as good as the real doctors. And you've been living on that ever since. And the trouble is, Ed, you are good. Except for two little problems. You can't quit competing with real doctors. And you can't face being wrong. You see, those people we treat out there, I mean the people we work for, the people who pay for this whole operation, they're real people, Ed, with real problems. And they have a right to expect more than just being used by you for some sort of trip. [Completely exasperated.] I guess what I'm trying to say to you, Ed, is that in my book you're just plain unprofessional.
[Ed walks out.]
John: Do you think it did any good?
Roy: Do you?

Show generally

Question: In quite a few episodes of Emergency there is a character that the doctors and other nurses call Nurse Carol. She is the older nurse with dark hair. I would say she is on at least a fourth of all episodes in all seasons yet I can not see this actress getting credited or listed as uncredited anywhere. I wonder if she was an actual nurse. Does any one know who she was. Yes there also were a couple of other actresses who played a nurse named Carol on one or two episodes and they are listed in the episode guides. She also is the patient with her arm in the cast talking to Dr. Morton in the episode 6:18 Firehouse Quintet.

Answer: On IMDB, actress Anne Schedeen is listed as playing Nurse Carol on six episodes from 1974-76.
