Trivia: Jerry Siegel, the co-creator of the Clark Kent/Superman character worked on a school magazine when he was at Glenville High School, Cleveland. The magazine was called The Torch - the same name of Smallville High's school magazine, edited by Chloe Sullivan and with Clark Kent as an on/off contributor.
Trivia: When Clark confronts the Flash in his hotel room, he reads off the fake IDs Jay Garrick, Barry Allen and Wally West. Those are the secret identities of the first three men to be called the Flash in the comics. Also, this Flash says his name is Bart, like Bart Allen, the teen hero formerly known as Impulse and currently being called "Kid Flash." (00:10:35)
Trivia: Despite many hours of outdoor farm work, Clark never gets a tan or a sunburn. In fact, Tom Welling, who plays Clark, is contractually forbidden from getting a tan, because the show creators were not sure if Kryptonians could tan.
Trivia: Martha makes a remark suggesting she thinks Bridgette Crosby and Dr Swan are together to which Bridgette comments "In another lifetime." Bridgette is played by Margot Kidder, who played the original Lois Lane, Prof Swan was played by the late Christopher Reeve. A nice touch I think.
Trivia: Michael Rosenbaum is the only actor to play both an enemy and ally of Superman in two separate TV series at one time. In addition to playing Lex Luthor in "Smallville," he is also the voice of The Flash in the cartoon series "Justice League."

Trivia: Throughout this episode, the Superman theme tune can be heard at various points being played very softly and slowly. The first time it is heard, it is only the first few opening keys, but the last time it is heard, it is fully played.
Trivia: Annette O'Toole who plays Clark Kent's mom also played the role of Lana Lang in the Superman III movie.
Trivia: In the episode where Clark is lured to the asylum when Lex is with some of his former enemies, Jonathan Taylor Thomas' character taunts Lex while holding a newspaper with a headline starting, "Themysciran princess" and some other words. That is a reference to Wonder Woman, who is from Themyscira.
Trivia: At least two of the episodes in the series, "Shimmer" and "Jinx", are named after DC villains. Although they never fought the Man of Steel himself, both of them have fought Indigo, an android with some of Superman's DNA fused to her.
Trivia: The asylum to which Lex is taken at the end of the episode is called "Belle Reve," which is French for "beautiful dream." It is also the name of the family mansion that once belonged to Blanche and Stella DuBois in "A Streetcar Named Desire." The mansion was lost, but it was the one memory to which Blanche clinged throughout her descent into madness. Belle Reve is also home to many lesser powered super villains in the DC universe, including some of Superman's enemies.
Trivia: This episode had a strong Dukes of Hazard theme as it reunited John Schneider (Jonathan Kent) and Tom Wopat (Senator Jack Jennings) who played Bo and Luke Duke respectively in the Dukes of Hazard. This included stunt driving by Jon Schneider, and him listening to "Good Ole Boys", the DoH theme song.
Answer: In the comics, Krypto is a dog from Krypton who was used as the passenger in a test launch by Jor-El, Superman's father, before he launched the actual rocket taking his infant son to Earth. Krypto's capsule was involved in a mishap, sending it out of Kryptonian orbit and eventually found its way to Earth where he linked up with the young Clark Kent. Like any native of Krypton, Krypto has superpowers on Earth. In Smallville, the dog is a standard Earth dog who has been experimentally injected with kryptonite, giving him super-strength for a limited period of time, who escapes and links up with Clark (who suggests the name Krypto, ostensibly because of the dog's cryptic origins). It doesn't take too long for the dog's strength to fade, and the Kents decide to keep him, although they ultimately name him Shelby, after a dog that Martha Kent had in childhood.
