Factual error: Multiple US Navy submarines are shown operating in the Hudson. The Hudson River is not deep enough to allow for submarine operations, especially multiple SSBNs (missile submarines which are too large and unwieldy for a shallow river, SSNs or fast attack subs would be used) and having multiple submarines complicates maneuvers and increases the risk for a friendly fire incident.

Factual error: F-18 Hornets deploy Harpoon anti-ship missiles to destroy Madison Square Garden. The Harpoon is an anti-ship missile, designed to punch holes in ships. It is not designed, nor capable of levelling buildings. A Harpoon also works best over water; firing over a crowded city confuses its radar seeker head and leads to tracking issues.

Stupidity: Colonel Sharpe retrieves a gun from a locker on the Freedom shuttle. However, said gun is shown lying flat on the floor of the compartment, with no visible means of securing it, which would hardly be standard NASA procedure given the shuttle undergoes a high-G launch, orbital manoeuvres and various other high acceleration events. A loaded gun bouncing around is the last thing anyone would allow on a shuttle. (01:42:39)

Factual error: The military sends a signal to the drilling team's nuke, arming it and triggering a countdown. A sudden rush to disarm the warhead ensues, with the NASA team on Earth temporarily breaking the uplink and stopping the detonation countdown. However, modern nuclear weapons do not require a "constant uplink" to detonate. Once the signal is sent and the nuke is armed, the signal can be cut or interrupted and the nuke will continue counting down.

Factual error: At the beginning of the game, Major Zero mentions that the HALO jump that Naked Snake is about to undergo is "the worlds first HALO jump". The first HALO jump actually happened in August 1960, four years before the game is set.

Factual error: In the opening scenes of the movie, set in 1961, the Very Large Array in New Mexico is shown. The Very Large Array did not exist in 1961, only being approved as a project by Congress in 1972, and being completed in 1980.

Factual error: In the beginning of the film, Max is walking down the National Mall listening to his iPod. He walks toward the Smithsonian Building (the supposed location of CONTROL's headquarters). However, in the next shot, he is entering the National Museum of Natural History, which is on the other side of the Mall and is further down. Also, exhibitions of CONTROL's history are seen in the museum. The Museum of Natural History exhibits prehistoric and natural objects. No other buildings are seen, even though Las Vegas has other high-rise buildings that are not on the Strip, and the level of sand that has built up is not substantial enough to have buried the entire city. Continuity mistake: At the shooting range, Selene is shown firing a black USP without a compensator. It then cuts to an over the shoulder shot, and she is now firing a two-tone USP Match (which she supposedly receives from Kahn to test out a few seconds later). It then cuts to a frontal shot of her, and she is once again using the same black USP. She never stopped firing, so she couldn't have switched guns.

Factual error: When the alien ship arrives in Washington DC, its shadow goes over the Lincoln Memorial from the bottom of the Lincoln statue to the top. Since the saucer is heading over the National Mall and the Lincoln Memorial faces the Mall, the shadow should have gone from the top to the bottom. (00:21:40)

Factual error: The cavemen Harrier pilots are shown using the hover mode frequently. Harriers, even with drop tanks as depicted in the film, can hover for at most 5-10 minutes, as the thrust required to keep the aircraft in the air without any lift consumes massive amounts of fuel and overheats the engine, and real-life Harrier pilots are instructed never to hover for long periods of time, unless absolutely necessary. The amount of time the cavemen spent hovering (hiding out of sight in a parking garage, sneaking up on the Psychlo gunships, etc.) would have easily caused their fuel to run dry.

Factual error: The Apaches in the film are depicted with dual machine guns on each side of the cockpit, mounted directly on the windows. In real life, Apaches cannot mount such cannons, and instead use an M230 Chaingun in a turret underneath the helicopter, which the film Apaches have, but for some reason do not use. (00:49:25)

Factual error: When Godzilla first attacks New York and then disappears, we are shown the MetLife Building, which has a massive gaping hole in it. The immense structural stress of a gigantic lizard smashing through the building, not to mention most of the center supports being taken with it, should have collapsed the building, yet it still is standing.
