The One (2001)

Stupidity: In the Anubis universe, immediately around the time Lawless says, "Something's wrong," if you look closely, by Lawless, you see the two police officers behind Jet Li walk away to leave Lawless completely unprotected from behind. I understand it's a parallel universe, but that's some really bad police work to leave a prisoner wide open like they do.

The One (2001)

Factual error: Yulaw can't possibly dodge bullets while he's in a vent system for a number of reasons. For one, unless he has X-ray vision, he can't see the exact spots where the bullets are coming at him as he would hear the guns going off simultaneously, thus couldn't know where to move to be safe. The second issue is he doesn't have room to maneuver around like he can on the ground. His superspeed is irrelevant in this case with him being both blind and encaged.

The Thing (1982)

Question: I'm not sure how accurate this is, but someone told me in a story they read about The Thing being able to beat Mac's blood test. So, forgive me if this is a dumb question, but is it at all possible for The Thing (in any context, story or movie) to beat Mac's little "blood test" and remain hidden, or is the blood test absolutely impossible for The Thing to beat?

Mlp1327

Answer: Please, there is no such thing as a dumb question. Hard to answer without knowing exactly what you heard, however: based on what we see in the film it is not possible for the creature to beat the blood test as it is shown. Every cell of the Thing possesses a sense of self-preservation and will recoil from pain instinctively. Any stories written after the film that suggest otherwise (ex. The Thing focuses really hard to not react to the pain; it kills the cells so they won't react, etc.) would create a plot hole in the original film. It knew exactly how the test worked and if it could pass, it would have.

BaconIsMyBFF

I found it in a Thing movie fan group. No official source but claim was it was the movie from The Thing's point of view. Including the blood test and how The Thing mostly managed to beat it except for Palmer (Palmer was freshly assimilated). The Things' goal was turn humanity into a collective species for the "greater good" as it believed. Again no official source, but was just curious if the blood test part has any merit to it.

Murphy's Luck - S2-E16

Question: How did Prue get her job back as a photographer when the last conversation she had with the studio guy had him angrily calling her a fraud, telling her she was not only fired but he would make sure she would never be hired by anyone else, etc.?

Mlp1327

Question: Obviously, Evan has traveled back in time more than what was shown in the movie itself. I was just curious, how many times had he likely time traveled before the second-to-last jump, with the blockbuster that killed Katie? Keep in mind, I'm talking about off-screen ones done as well on here.

Demolition Man (1993)

Stupidity: Dr. Cocteau's choice to unleash an enhanced Simon Phoenix without any way to restrain him is incredibly reckless and stupid. Even if Simon were to kill Eager Friendly, in the best case situation, you'd still have a madman with total computer access, martial arts knowledge, etc., that you would have no way to rein in. Sure, he can't kill Dr. Cocteau, but what would stop him from say, holding the city hostage or something? Why not add in a kill code or something to keep him in check?

Mlp1327

Suggested correction: Who says he didn't? Cocteau has put in mental conditioning compelling Phoenix to kill Edgar Friendly and make him unable to kill Cocteau. Who says he hasn't put in something that makes him kill himself after the deed is done? Or perhaps paralyze him so he can be put back on ice. It's just that Cocteau didn't count on the fact that his henchmen could kill him. He doesn't care about how dangerous he is, not until he has done the deed.

lionhead

Dr. Cocteau is a narcissistic egomaniac type that would see himself as a king or a god, even. And Simon is making him very angry. He even tells Simon, "you're beginning to be more trouble than you're worth..." Someone with an ego like Cocteau wouldn't stand for Simon's antics for very long. And would happily enjoy putting Simon back in his place by shocking, paralyzing, etc.

Mlp1327

But he first needs him to kill Friendly. Until he does that, he'll let him play. He still sees no danger to himself.

Question: Had Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan been able to both survive and defeat Maul, would this mean Sidious would not be able to manipulate Anakin anymore? Or would the Sith Lord have simply tried a different plan, besides emotional manipulation, to try to trick an Anakin trained under Qui-Gon into the dark side?

Mlp1327

Answer: I don't think his plans would change. Qui-Gon is just another Jedi Master training Anakin, nothing much different because Obi-Wan was trained by him as well, after all. Plus, Qui-Gon much more believes Anakin is the chosen one, so he would probably allow Anakin a lot more than Obi-Wan would, including his relationships with Palpatine and Padme, which both are more important for Anakin's switch to the dark side.

lionhead

I (not who submitted the question) wonder if Palpatine actually wanted Darth Maul to be killed by Obi-Wan, Qui-Gon, or both. It seems like he mostly trained Maul to fight. Maul seemed to know little about the plotting, scheming, and political dealings. Dooku was capable in those areas, and was skilled at fighting. He was probably more useful while Palpatine waited to turn Anakin.

Not sure about that. I think he genuinely thought Darth Maul was properly trained to defeat Jedi. I don't think Palpatine planned ahead in terms of apprentices, except Anakin. But Darth Maul was before he knew Anakin. I don't think Sith are easy to find either, so Palpatine needed Maul for a lot of things more than just kill Jedi. It is too convenient however that every apprentice he had served his plans perfectly. Because I don't see Maul lead the separatists.

lionhead

I was under the impression that Palpatine knew about Anakin ever since Shmi was chosen to be Anakin's mother. I might be wrong. This is an interesting discussion, though - I appreciate your response. Some think that Maul had limited use of the Force and was more of a trained assassin. But, if that were true, why call him a Sith apprentice? As you say, it's hard to imagine him being a Separatist leader.

I do not have any knowledge regarding any books written or other sources that might be considered canon, as have been mentioned in other comments here recently. My knowledge is purely the movies. As per the movies, Palpatine only learned of Anakin after the Battle of Naboo.

Cube (1997)

Question: I have heard something about Cube having an alternate or extended ending. Are there any videos of this by chance?

Mlp1327

Answer: Not to my knowledge. The director said on Twitter/X that there was an extra scene during the ending that had been shot but that it was immediately removed from the film after the first assembly cut. He also said it will never be seen and joked that he "burned it and stomped on it." (Chances are the footage is just lost.) So I'd assume whatever it is REALLY didn't work or was too silly.

TedStixon

Answer: From Lost Media Wiki: According to several eyewitnesses, in certain theatrical screenings of the film, the scene in question was shown. It allegedly depicts Kazan walking out onto a beach (or a cliff's edge, depending on who you ask) on a purple alien planet, overlooking an endless ocean, as mechanical grinding noises are heard. As he turns around, both his footprints and the cube's exit itself vanish. Some have also reported that the sky is then shown, full of exoplanets. A pinch of salt is needed; however, this statement does have 4 sources.

Sonic Adventure 2

Question: I have heard that certain levels within Sonic Adventure 2 have rings that are impossible for the player to normally reach. Whether it's out of bounds, within an instant death area, etc. I know Shadow's White Jungle level is infamous for this. What levels have these unobtainable rings, and where can I find more information about them?

Mlp1327

Answer: This video explains about the White Jungle level: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WWHyfuw4PtU. Not sure on other levels.

The One (2001)

Plot hole: There is no way Yulaw could have successfully killed off every single other version of himself but Gabe. Death is a very unpredictable thing, and it's not possible for Yulaw to have known the exact date and time to be in every universe to kill each variant of himself before their deaths in that universe. Or, are we to believe accidents and other forms of death beyond natural are not possible in any universe but the Anubis universe?

They Live (1988)

Factual error: Throughout the movie, whenever the sunglasses/contacts are worn, both visual and audible hidden subliminal messages are seen and heard. Such as the hidden "obey" message flashing, or the hidden traffic siren repeating "sleep," etc. The problem is that the glasses/contacts only help the eyes, not the ears. So the hidden audio shouldn't be heard any differently or clearer than it is with them off.

Mlp1327

Suggested correction: The glasses/contacts are made of a material that blocks the alien signal, hence why wearing them too long makes you feel sick since it messes with the brain. That would allow you to hear the audio as well.

Not true. Yes, the glasses would help you to be aware that the sounds existed; however, the error is that the sounds become louder. Take the traffic signal device. If it is saying "sleep sleep" as a subliminal message outside normal human hearing, wearing the glasses won't change the volume of the subliminal "sleep message" from "sleeeep" to "SLEEEP". Unless you're saying the sounds were always at normal human hearing levels.

Mlp1327

That's exactly what was happening. There's a difference between frequency and volume. A sound can have a frequency outside normal human perception and still be loud. For example, a dog whistle is loud enough to hear, but not in a frequency most humans can hear. The plot of the film seems to be that the frequency isn't picked up by the conscious mind, but by the subconscious mind, much like the visual images.

Bishop73

I just assumed, as is the case with most subliminal audio, that the sound messages were a case of low volume and not frequency. That is, sounds that were just below normal hearing volume. That is barely hearable to the average person volume-wise, but they heard enough for the brain to perceive them and process the information subconsciously. Unfortunately, I can only speculate which it is without an absolute answer, so I can't argue the correction really.

The One (2001)

Question: Whatever happened to the "evil" TK? The one that used the mice bomb to help Gabriel Yulaw escape. Was she arrested or did she escape?

Mlp1327

Answer: Just looked it up, the character's name is Massie Walsh, apparently. But yeah, she's basically the "evil TK" version. Anyways, I was trying to ask what happened to her.

Mlp1327

Answer: Yulaw killed T.K., who was hiding in Gabe's residence.

raywest

Wrong, T.K. I'm talking about the OTHER one. I don't know what her name is, but the one who put a bomb in the mouse to help Yulaw escape early in the movie. The scene in the multiverse area.

Mlp1327

Since we never see her again, there's the possibility that she managed to escape during the confusion. Especially since she was wearing a disguise.

The Light Brigade - S2-E18

Plot hole: WARNING SPOILER AHEAD. The alien impersonating Skokes changed the ship's destination to Earth. This is impossible to have been done, as the first order the captain gave was to lock the course in and "Skokes" admits his security clearance was removed after his rescue from his prison. It also couldn't have been done by another alien spy, as no other survivors beyond the 4 (2 human and 2 aliens) were found and the only other alien spy was unconscious, so he couldn't have helped out in any way.
