Carnosaur (1993)

Question: Why did the government soldiers shoot down Doc Smith and burn them at the end? Was he infected?

Trainman

Question: Why did the SWAT team start shooting when they enter the room? Shouldn't they just hold for a second to see if everyone is unarmed before they start firing?

Trainman

Answer: At this point they believe they are dealing with a team of mass murderers, possibly terrorists. It is perfectly reasonable they would shoot on sight to stop the threat. This particular group (at least based on what they know) has no problem gunning down an entire police station.

Home Alone (1990)

Question: Why did Kevin's mother take him to the third floor instead of his own room?

Trainman

Answer: Possibly because with so many family members staying in the same house, in order to all fly to France together, one or more of his relatives were sleeping in his room and he was relegated to the attic; it's likely a sacrifice forced on him rather than one offered to him. As is common with young children, they often get the short end of the stick compared to their older, more mature siblings and are given a lesser degree of latitude and independence.

Cubs Fan

Answer: Earlier in the film it's mentioned that Kevin is sleeping in the hide-a-bed with Fuller. So it was pre-arranged where everyone was going to be sleeping. The hide-a-bed was on the 3rd floor. I don't think they mentioned who was sleeping in Kevin's room. I've been in similar situations (where several families are staying in one house) and kids' rooms are either given to an adult couple, or girls in one room, boys in another, etc.

The Mask (1994)

Question: Didn't Charlie notice that Ipkiss isn't with him when he enters the Coco Bongo? He is entering with the girls but didn't seem to notice that he wasn't with him.

Trainman

Answer: He was too busy with the girls and taking in the scene. He probably simply assumes Ipkiss followed them in and he lost sight of them, he didn't have to suspect he was left outside.

Aftershock (2012)

Question: What's with all the baby corpses that Monica found in the hidden tunnels?

Trainman

Answer: Early on, Ariel tells Monica that the old tunnels beneath the church are the burial site of many babies (the results of years of illicit sex between the nuns and priests), and that's what Monica comes across. It's possible the earthquake/aftershocks were meant to have exposed the tombs. The reason some of the bodies look bloody and more 'fresh' is most likely for shock value, typical of Eli Roth films.

Howard the Duck (1986)

Question: What happens to Jennings after Howard destroys the Laser Spectroscope to prevent more Dark Overlords from coming to earth? He is never seen with Howard, Beverly and Phil after it's destroyed.

Trainman

Answer: He means, what happens to him in that very scene.

Answer: He probably goes back to being a scientist afterwards. Maybe he went into hiding after what he'd been through out of fear of the government wanting to hold him responsible for that power plant's mess.

My Cousin Vinny (1992)

Question: Why did the train that wakes Vinny and Lisa comes through town every morning rather than coming through anytime besides 5 or 4?

Trainman

Answer: A train has many stops on each trip it makes, and reaches each one at a different time of the day. It's not just going to one town where the time could be adjusted.

The Host (2013)

Question: What happens to Melanie's dog that is shown in flashback of her skateboarding with it at the beginning of the movie? She (as an alien) and her hidden family never speak of it at all the whole film.

Toy Story 3 (2010)

Question: Why did Lotso take over Sunnyside Daycare and turn it into a prison for the toys?

Trainman

Answer: He was so angry at his owner for replacing him that he chose to take his rage out on other toys.

My Cousin Vinny (1992)

Question: How did the witnesses think that it was Bill and Stan who committed the murder? Didn't they even see the faces of the other killers after them?

Trainman

Answer: This is actually fairly common in real life. It goes something like this: the witness sees two men in a green car fleeing the scene of the crime. Later they learn two men driving a green car have been arrested for the crime. In their minds, they saw these two men, and as time goes on they subconsciously "see" them in their memory of the event. This is addressed in the film. Vinny even questions one witness about that, asking if it's possible that they just saw "two guys in a green convertible, and not necessarily these two guys."

Answer: The witnesses saw two young men in a very similar car to Bill and Stan's drive off. The prosecutor made a compelling case that they were the murderers, while Vinnie initially bumbled. In cases like this, it's somewhat easy to convince someone to believe they saw what they want to believe, especially if they feel they're doing a civic duty or if it makes them feel important. See the play 'Twelve Angry Men' for an example of this.

Brian Katcher

Answer: They saw hardly anything at all, but they are convinced somehow that they saw these 2 boys and not someone else.

Question: At the Christmas pageant, why is Frank laughing when they all see the pianist falling backwards off the stage? Did he think it was funny?

Trainman

Answer: Yes, Frank is portrayed as an insensitive jerk in both movies. Note that he was also laughing at the prank Buzz was pulling on Kevin during the pageant, much to his wife's dismay.

Jumanji (1995)

Question: How come every shopper at Sir Sav a Lot didn't evacuate when Van Pelt had a gun and was shooting up the place while going after Judy, Peter and Sarah?

Trainman

Answer: They are probably too invested with their own looting to worry about someone else committing a crime.

I especially like that one woman that is hesitating to take the box or not as everyone is running away when he shoots into the ceiling.

Question: When Harry and Marv capture Kevin from the hotel, what are they going to do to him and where are they taking him?

Trainman

Answer: They are presumably taking him somewhere secluded so they can exact their revenge.

LorgSkyegon

Answer: According to Harry, he wants to take Kevin to the subway tunnel and kill him.

Clean Slate (1994)

Question: What happens to Hendrix and Dr Hoover? They were never seen again since they both tied up by Cornell and his henchmen but what does Cornell means "Not on the rug"?

Trainman

Answer: Hendricks and Dr Hoover were killed, when Cornell says, "not on the rug" he means don't kill them on the rug, it will be messy. The rug was most likely an antique.

Why was that a reward though for Hendricks. It wasn't his rug.

Murder, She Wrote (1984)

Track of a Soldier - S12-E18

Question: When we figure out at the end that Juan was Lloyd's killer, how come it didn't show a flashback of him stabbing Lloyd? Like the other scene where it shows Peter discovering his dead body and picks up the knife, and also at the end it shows Greta discovered his body too and turned his body around to look for the diamond, but didn't show Juan murdering him.

Trainman

Answer: It may simply have been a matter of time, as this was a one-hour show. The murderer is always revealed at the end, though it is not necessary to show the actual murder. Also, at that that time, it may have been considered too graphic to show someone being stabbed on a family TV show.

Venom (2018)

Question: After Riot took over the little girl's body at the airport, what happens to her parents?

Trainman

Answer: The parents do not notice when the little girl leaves the bathroom and are never seen or heard from again. Presumably they believed their daughter to be missing and an investigation would be launched, but the girl would not be found until after Riot had switched bodies and she was killed.

Outbreak (1995)

Question: Why did General Donald McClintock want to keep the virus a secret and not let anyone know of its existence?

Trainman

Answer: He wanted to eventually use it as a biological weapon.

raywest

Answer: Is it because if anyone knew about it will spread information across the globe and will likely lead to his enemies and will no longer be a secret and his plans will be ruined?

Trainman

Question: When Ricky King and his bully friends are bullying Mitch and Adam for being shorter, why can't Jenny do something about it rather than standing and watching?

Trainman

Answer: Maybe she was afraid at the time.

Answer: He's simply enjoying doing it himself. Especially since he likely believes he can do it better than she can.

The Goonies (1985)

Answer: Because he's a rich, spoiled, self-centered bully who sees the Goonies as low class weirdos who are getting in the way of his father's development plans (and he sees Brand as as rival for Andy's affections).
