Hellboy (2004)

Corrected entry: In the scene in the subway station when Hellboy is fighting Sammael, he grabs the monster by the tongue and swings him through a large window. Sammael jumps down and is hanging in the subway tunnel, but can't get away because HB still has a hold of his tongue. The train hits and kills Sammael. But when the shot goes back to Hellboy, the tongue, which should still be attached to his hand, is gone. He's holding his hand out as if it's still there, but I guess they forgot to add it later in CGI. (01:00:15)

Mark Bernhard

Correction: You see the tongue unravel and fall off his arm.

Correction: There is nothing to indicate it is too big for Hyde. From what I saw, it's the same size hat we see Hyde wearing.

Hellboy (2004)

Corrected entry: When Kronen is getting ready to kill Broom at the beginning, the Sargent shoots Kronen. One shot hits Kronen's mask and the bullet ricochets off of it, yet there is no dent in the mask.

Mark Bernhard

Correction: Kroenen is a skilled craftsman, so why is it odd that his mask would be made out of something bullet proof?

My Day Off - S1-E9

Corrected entry: When J.D. has his appendectomy, Turk is cutting on his left side. The appendix is on the right side of the body. Ironically, J.D. is commenting in the voice-over about what a great surgeon Turk is.

Mark Bernhard

Correction: About one in 10,000 people have 'situs inversus', a total reversal of their organs. In such a case, the appendix would be on the left. See here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Situs_inversus.

During the surgery Turk was cutting on the left side later in the episode he came to check on JD and the bandages and the scar were on the right side.

Die Another Day (2002)

Corrected entry: When Jinx first appears out of the water, notice her expression. She looks like she's doing a photo shoot for a magazine. She keeps making this "sexy face" as she walks in slo-mo toward the beach. But when the camera angle changes and returns to normal speed, she looks bored and disinterested.

Mark Bernhard

Correction: This is when Bond sees her for the first time, and since he is a womanizer, we could be seeing her as he sees her. When the angle changes, it is really how she looks. Since the initial scene is in slow motion, we can assume the director was going for an "artsy" shot.

Hellboy (2004)

Corrected entry: We've established that Hellboy can bleed when he gets cut by Kronen and when Sammael plants the eggs in his arm. We've also established that Kronen's swords are extremely sharp by the way he cuts through a statue with one swipe. But in the fight with Kronen in Rasputin's crypt, Hellboy grabs both swords with his non-stone hand and Kronen cannot free them. And later, in close-ups, there are no cuts on Hellboy's "normal" hand.

Mark Bernhard

Correction: 1. They are tonfas, not swords. 2. It's physics. If you look into the way tonfas work, especially bladed tonfas, you would see that much of the power is derived from the spinning of the tonfa itself and the spinning of the body. This is why prior to his cutting the statue, he spends a second or two spinning it; to build momentum. So, though the blades are sharp, when Hellboy grabs Kroenen's tonfas, there is no movement of the blades which would cut him. He is holding them in place, and punching Kroenen, disorienting him, not allowing him to strike back.

Corrected entry: In the scene where Austin repeatedly uses Robin Swallows as a human shield, an additional bit was filmed but not used. When Felicity picks up Austin in the 'Vette and they drive away, a car with more bad guys chases them. It pulls up next to them and one of the assassins starts firing a machine gun at them. At the last second, Austin reaches down and pulls out the body of Robin Swallows, again using her body as a shield. He turns to Felicity and says, "Glad I brought her along," then tosses Robin's body out of the car and they drive off. It's a really funny bit, but would have created continuity problems since we see her body lying on the sidewalk when Austin and Felicity initially drive off.

Mark Bernhard

Correction: How is this trivia? This is nothing more than the description of a deleted scene.

True Lies (1994)

Corrected entry: When Arnie is breaking through the ice at the beginning of the film, it's obviously just wax. Watch the way it breaks when he's cutting the hole to crawl out of, and also how buoyant it is. Also, listen to the sound effects. It sounds like they didn't even bother covering up the wax sound with the sound of ice cracking.

Mark Bernhard

Correction: Ice IS buoyant, that's a fact of physics. Plus, it doesn't always freeze solid. Some portions can be thinner than others, some can have air pockets in them, making it quite easy to break through.

1941 (1979)

Corrected entry: Christopher Lee's character is thrown into the ocean and we presume that he dies. Slim Pickens' character is last seen escaping from the U-boat as it is submerging and is never seen again. But if you watch at the very end of the movie, after the house has fallen and Ackroyd says, "I think the really big year for the war is going to be 1942," Christopher Lee and Slim Pickens can both be seen in the crowd.

Mark Bernhard

Correction: It takes a lot of organisation and planning to get actors onto a film location, especially highly paid, featured actors like Christopher Lee and Slim Pickens. If they were there, they were meant to be. Maybe they swam ashore and survived after all?

Hellboy (2004)

Corrected entry: When Hellboy is standing outside the asylum, one of the patients is heard saying, "There's a big red man down there." A nurse replies, "Santa isn't coming for another month." Since Hellboy has just walked through a big Halloween party, it's actually 2 months until Christmas.

Mark Bernhard

Correction: It is not uncommon for volunteers dressed as Santa to visit asylums, hospitals, and schools in the run up to xmas. The nurse could be referring to the fact that "Santa" will be making a visit in a month.

Hellboy (2004)

Corrected entry: When Hellboy and Kronen are fighting in Rasputin's crypt, you can see chunks of stone flying off of HB's stone hand every time he's struck by the swords. But the hand never seems to lose any pieces and when it is shown later in close-ups, is completely undamaged.

Mark Bernhard

Correction: Not true, look closely and see that there are chips all over the surface of the hand.

Hellboy (2004)

Corrected entry: When Hellboy and the agents go back to look for eggs in the subway, they enter through a working subway tunnel. Later, when HB is searching for Kronen and encounters Sammael, they fall into a hole, fighting as they drop hundreds of feet. But they crash through the ceiling of a subway station. Why is there another subway system hundreds of feet below the one they came in through?

Mark Bernhard

Correction: In subway systems, different lines run on different levels, to allow the tunnels to cross each other without interference.

Star Trek (1966)

Show generally

Corrected entry: Romulans come from the planet Romulus, which has a nearby twin called Remus. These planets are named for the mythical founders of Rome, the twin sons of the war god Mars and the Vestal Rhea Silvia. But Romulans would not know about ancient Earth history, so it seems unlikely that they would name their planets after our mythology and refer to themselves as "Romulans."

Mark Bernhard

Correction: They didn't, any more than the Vulcans chose to name their planet after the Roman god of fire. These are simply the names given to those worlds by the humans - the universal translator is programmed to use Romulus and Remus to replace the true names of the planets. The same follows with the species name.

Hellboy (2004)

Corrected entry: When the first portal opens, a light is pulled through it and into outer space. That type of light generates a lot of heat, so the bulb would be quite hot. But it's absolute zero in space, so the bulb would have exploded as soon as it passed through the portal.

Mark Bernhard

Correction: Temperature of space is not absolute zero. By the laws of thermodynamics, absolute zero is the coldest possible temperature and immpossible to reach. Lights in freezers and fridges don't explode when you leave them on for hours on end.

Rlvlk

Corrected entry: When Dave is trapped in the pod outside the ship and has to go through the airlock, the solution is impossible (and a real astronaut would have known that). The change in pressure between the pod and the vacuum of space would cause the body to explode without a pressure suit (including the helmet, which was missing). Also, the absolute zero temperature of space would have frozen Dave solid before he ever got the Discovery's door closed.

Mark Bernhard

Correction: The suggestion that a human body would immediately explode in a vacuum is a common fallacy. Nor would they immediately freeze solid - heat does not transfer away from a body particularly quickly, even in a very cold environment. NASA estimates that a human being could survive exposure to space for thirty seconds without suffering any lasting injury, provided that they didn't try to hold their breath - something that Bowman, as an astronaut, would be well aware of. His actions are quite plausible.

Sin City (2005)

Corrected entry: When we first see Dwight in the apartment, his shoes are bright red. When Brittany Murphy's character sticks her head out of the window to see Dwight standing on the ledge, the shoes are back to black and white. When the camera angle switches, the shoes are red again.

Mark Bernhard

Correction: This is just an effect used for the movie - sometimes blood is red, sometimes it's white.

Hellboy (2004)

Corrected entry: When Hellboy hits Myer with the rock, he is on a rooftop across the street and pretty high up, but they are more or less facing each other. When the shot cuts to Myer getting hit, if you watch slowly, the rock appears to come from behind, hitting him in the back of the head or at least the side. Myer puts his hand up to his forehead, where you would expect him to be hit, considering the direction Hellboy is throwing from. But then Myer turns around and yells, "hey, who threw that?" behind him, where it appeared the rock came from in slo-mo.

Mark Bernhard

Correction: They're not even close to facing each other - Hellboy is looking at them almost side-on. The rock comes from the correct direction, hitting Myers on the right-hand side of his forehead, exactly where he puts his hand to. He then stands and looks left and right first, and only turns round to look behind him once he's failed to spot the thrower in the more plausible directions.
