End of Days (1999)

End of Days mistake picture

Continuity mistake: In the church at the end when the windows are shattering, Arnie's got his right arm protecting his face in a wide shot and a closeup, then in the next shot (behind him) his left arm's up. we then cut in front of him again and his right arm's back up. (01:44:20)

Sneakers (1992)

Sneakers mistake picture

Continuity mistake: When Robert Redford tips the scrabble letters onto the glass table, he makes "SETE" and "CAST" next to it. To the right of "CAST", under his right hand, are the letters RNY, quite widely spaced. All other letters are tightly gathered above. When the angle changes to under the table, suddenly all the letters are spread fairly evenly around the table. (00:39:15)

General questions

Some years ago I watched a film, now I know this sounds strange, but some Electricity Pylons sort of came to life and started walking on a mission. The story seemed to revolve round a little boy if my memory serves me right. Does anyone know what the film was?

Jon Sandys

Chosen answer: Sounds a lot like The Iron Giant.

General questions

In many films, I have read, (and actually seen in the films) that an actor/actress onscreen mouths the words another actor is saying. It happens in Home alone 1, one of the Harry Potter films and in the latest Bond film. Why does this happen?

Jon Sandys

Chosen answer: I can't give a definite answer, but all I can think is that they've rehearsed the scene so often that they know other people's lines (possibly leading up to their own cue), so mouth along with them without even realising it, and no-one else notices. Kind of like during the filming of the Phantom Menace - Ewan McGregor was making lightsaber noises during the fights and wasn't even aware he was doing it until someone pointed it out to him!

Scrubs (2001)

Chosen answer: There has been no mention from Disney (Studio who makes Scrubs) when the first season is to hit DVD shelves. Zach Braff's website had put the release as early 2005 but many believe it will be released in the US around Spring 2005 (I believe that would make it around May or June).

Sin City (2005)

Question: Is the music on the trailer original music from the film? If not, can someone let me know what it's from?

Jon Sandys

Chosen answer: It's an instrumental version of a track called "Cells" by a group called "The Servant".

Seinfeld (1990)

The Heart Attack - S2-E8

Continuity mistake: When Jerry's sitting with George in the hospital talking about George's jacket, as Jerry says "no, I tried it on, it fits good", he's gesturing with his left hand, which he then puts in his lap. From the reverse angle though, his left hand's still raised, then he lowers it again.

Blade: Trinity (2004)

Revealing mistake: While Blade's dangling a familiar off the roof, the familiar's phone rings (a Nokia 5210). Blade looks at the screen and sees the doctor's name. However, the display we see is a Nokia phone book listing with only one entry, rather than the "incoming call" display.

The Incredibles (2004)

The Incredibles trivia picture

Trivia: The two old men near the end, talking about it being "old school" are voiced by Frank Thomas and Ollie Johnston, two Walt Disney animators who worked on such classics as Bambi and Cinderella.

Friends (1994)

Show generally

Question: In the UK at least, new box sets have just been released of all 10 series (3 discs per box). Does anyone know if these are double sided or single sided discs? The original DVDs were double sided, which always seemed stupid.

Jon Sandys

Chosen answer: They are double sided. Four episodes per side on 3 discs gives 24 episodes which equal one season.

The West Wing (1999)

Show generally

Question: Producers are currently unsure as to whether Martin Sheen is returning for another season. Even if he does though, in due course he'll have to be replaced, unless they include a constitutional rewrite into the script giving him 3 terms of office. I've heard reports that in the coming season a few characters will be introduced who might replace him as president. My question is, wouldn't the incoming president have his own principal staff, meaning that the current cast would need to be almost entirely replaced, not just the president?

Jon Sandys

Chosen answer: The current 'Inside Scoop' is that Bingo Bob would become Prez, keeping at least Will (Joshua Malina) in the show. It could be extrapolated that the producers will offer the main cast to continue with the show, and work out a storyline where Bingo Bob would offer them to stay with him.

Biker Boyz (2003)

Biker Boyz mistake picture

Continuity mistake: After Kid crashes towards the end in his race against Dogg, a wide shot shows that he's quite far from the bike, which is in the middle of the track resting horizontally on its kickstand, with something black against the wall behind him. In the closer shot of Lawrence Fishburne running up to him, he's just struggling to his feet, so hasn't moved, yet is much closer to the bike, which is now right up against the wall, and the black object behind him has disappeared. Saw (2004)

Saw mistake picture

Continuity mistake: Adam's hacksaw blade snaps almost as soon as he gets it. However, later on (just after he gets electrocuted) we see it lying beside him with the blade in one piece. (00:14:30 - 01:03:30)

The West Wing (1999)

Question: Considering Luke's severed hand was replaced by one which looks exactly like a normal hand, why does he wear a glove? Is it explained in the books?

Jon Sandys

Chosen answer: It's explained in the film, although not terribly clearly. Luke's hand takes a direct blast during the fight on Jabba's sailbarge, putting a rather unsightly charred hole in it. As they leave Tatooine, Luke is seen pulling on a glove to cover the hole - he then wears it, I believe, for the remainder of the film. Presumably, with visiting Yoda and all the preparation for the assault on the Death Star, he hasn't had time to go and get it fixed.

Tailkinker

Answer: Additionally, from a story standpoint, when Luke cuts off Vader's hand to reveal it to be completely mechanical, he looks at his own gloved hand and is reminded what lays ahead if he turns to the Dark Side. That shot would not have worked as well if he just stared at what appears to be his normal hand, thus they found a reason to put a glove on it early on.

Batman (1989)

Batman mistake picture

Continuity mistake: When Batman initially fires the rope around Joker's ankle at the end, the rope only goes around the statue's legs. The next time we see it, it's somehow re-tied itself, and is now looped around the statue's backside. (01:52:55)

Continuity mistake: When Bruce smashes the vase in Vicki's apartment, it's further from the wall in the initial shot than when we see it actually smash in the close up.

Star Wars (1977)

Star Wars mistake picture

Continuity mistake: In the cantina, the alien who eventually gets his arm cut off is hassling Luke. In one shot he puts his hand on Luke's shoulder, but in the next his hand's nowhere in sight. (00:44:40)

Star Wars (1977)

Star Wars mistake picture

Continuity mistake: During the battle between Obi-Wan and Darth Vader, there's a scorched slash mark on the wall to Obi-Wan's right before either saber makes contact with it. A few seconds later Darth slashes his saber in exactly that spot (we can see the scorch mark again before he hits it). (01:26:50)
