Corrected entry: Karen and Denys fly to a beautiful sand beach on the Mombasa coast. After a beautiful sunset they camp on a bonfire in the darkness. In Mombasa the coast is in the east, toward the sunrise.

Correction: There is no "sunset" to be seen before the campfire on the beach. There only is a shot of dusk coming over a clouded sky while Blixen and Finch Hatton swim in the sea. It is impossible to say if the light is stronger inlands or not.

Corrected entry: At the New Years Eve party Denys grabs Karen's hand and pulls her to the dance floor. In her other hand is a glass of champagne which spills out of the glass. On the dance floor Karen puts a full champagne glass to her mouth and takes a sip.

Correction: The glass is not full when she takes a sip while they are on the dance floor. There is less than half a glass of champagne, enough to allow for the bit that sloshed out.

Corrected entry: In a scene in the house, which appears to be a split level, with steps going both to the right and left to reach the lower level; there is what is unmistakably a round Honeywell thermostat on the wall. Kenya is relatively temperate in climate with highs in the warmest regions in the mid 80's. Climate control would not be a big problem. Clearly, at the turn of the century in Keyna, Honeywell thermostats were, if anything, only a concept in someone's mind.

Correction: First, this story occurs over a 17-year period in Isak Dineson's life - from 1919 through 1936, so not "turn of the century". Secondly, the thermostat shown is indeed an early model and Honeywell thermostats were first used in 1924.

Corrected entry: During an early scene Karen is shooting pheasant with a shotgun. There is a shot of her with the shotgun to her shoulder firing a shot which produces no recoil. The shotgun, most probably a 12 gauge has substantial recoil which would be readily noticeable.

Correction: Done properly, handling the recoil from a shotgun is minimized to prevent injury and discomfort. Karen was an accomplished hunter and knew how to handle guns. And she does show a bit of recoil in this scene.

Correction: The reflection is of Denys' pants and his tall boots. You can see Karen's white skirt right next to it.

Continuity mistake: When Denys and Karen are first on safari, while they are seated at their dining table one evening, Denys peels an orange repeatedly. In the middle of the "peel" scene (the shots cut back and forth between Denys and Karen) the fruit changes to a green apple (taken from the bowl on the table in front of Denys. This is especially obvious because the apples in the bowl decrease from two to one as the orange disappears from the shot). In subsequent shots (when he is holding the orange again) the number of apples in the bowl returns to two.

Karen Blixen: Perhaps he knew, as I did not, that the Earth was made round so that we would not see too far down the road.
