9

1 (voiced by Christopher Plummer) sacrifices himself so that 9 (voiced by Elijah Wood) can remove the talisman from the evil machine. 9 removes the talisman and uses it to recover the souls of his friends and then the machine is destroyed. 9 releases the souls of 1, 2 (Martin Landau), 5 (John C. Reilly), 6 (Crispin Glover) and 8 from the talisman and they ascend. Rain starts to fall and in the rain drops there's little green organisms (implying even bacterial organisms were killed during the war) that will restore life to the world. 7 (voiced by Jennifer Connelly) asks "What do we do now?" and 9 says that it's up to them to rebuild the world.

Continuity mistake: When 9 created the "torch" from a light bulb, it needed to be turned to work. However, when 3 and 4 investigate the bulb one of them simply puts it in and it starts glowing without being screwed.

Trivia: The Chancellor mentioned by the scientist and shown in the old archive footage appears to be a reference to Adolf Hitler, the fascist dictator of Germany from 1933 through 1945. Hitler held the title of Chancellor of Germany, until he gave himself the new title of Fuhrer. When standing in the car in what appears to be a parade, The Chancellor lifts his hand in a motion similar to that of The Hitler/Nazi Salute. The flags and banners shown on the wall when The Chancellor announces the creation of The Machine are similar to the Swastika Flag of the Nazi Party. Finally, when the Chancellor takes The Machine away from The Scientist, the soldiers who take The Scientist away resemble SS Officers (Hitler's Secret Police Force) in uniform and actions.

Question: What in the world was 8 doing when he had the magnet over his head and he became all relaxed?

Answer: The magnet was acting as a drug on him. He was in a way getting high off a magnet.

Answer: You know the Futurama scene where bender gets high off electricity? Same thing. Magnets make electrical things not work (I'm pretty sure I heard it from some where). It's like how drinking alcohol and taking drugs makes us not totally there. It's what story writers believe happens. Pretty cool story element really.
