Beowulf

A king of Denmark, Anthony Hopkins character is hosting a celebration in a Meat Hall. The loud noises disturbs Grendel, who although far away, apparently has extra sensitive hearing. Grendel attacks killing many men. Anthony Hopkins character challenges Grendel to fight him, but instead Grendel retreats back to his cave. The next day, Anthony Hopkin's character closes the Hall and offers half the gold in his kingdom to anybody who can kill Grendel. In comes our hero Beowulf who accepts the challenge. Beowulf convinces the King to reopen the hall. The King offers Beowulf a gold horn-shape drinking cup as a reward but Beowulf is in love with the King's wife. She is already unhappy with her marriage to the King because he seems to only want to try to have a son to inherit his kingdom but they have no such luck, and he doesn't seem to love her as much as he used to.

Beowulf orders his men to sing loudly to draw the attention of Grendel. Right on cue, Grendel attacks the hall.

Continuity mistake: All wide shots of Hrothgar's hall show it in the outer ward of his fortress, about two hundred metres from the towers on the edge of the cliff, with open ground on three sides and an embankment on the fourth. But later several characters are able to step straight out of the hall onto a balcony that overhangs the cliffs and sea below.
