Other mistake: John Elder whacks Curley (George Kennedy) across the face very hard with an axe handle as Curley was trying to drown the undertaker. Despite this, Curley never shows any mark at all in the subsequent scenes.
Other mistake: Moving them to Laredo early in the morning, except it's noon by the wagon shadows.
Factual error: In the final gunfight in Hasting's store, John Elder fires his six-shooting Colt to a total of thirteen or fourteen times, without requiring - or doing any - reloading whatsoever.
Bud Elder: I'm going with you. I can draw pretty fast. We can be famous - like the Dalton Brothers.
John Elder: They're famous - but they're just a little bit dead. They were hung.
Trivia: This movie marked the return of John Wayne to work after having a cancerous lung removed nearly 18 months before. He insisted on doing all his own stunts to show the public that the illness hadn't slowed him down.
