Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story

Corrected entry: At the start of the movie when White Goodman is advertising Globo Gym in his commercial, they show a picture of White dated 1987. He states that this was him 6 years and 600 lbs ago. Later in the movie, the ESPN Ocho broadcast states they have been covering sports since 1999. If the 1987 picture was 6 years ago, that makes the current date 1993, so 1999 would be 6 years in the future.

Correction: It's just an old commercial that's oddly still being shown on TV. The commercial itself would have been filmed in or around 1993, but the movie takes place around the present year, respective to its 2004 release date. This is evidenced by some of the film's pop culture references, such as Lance Armstrong talking about the multiple Tour de France competitions that he won despite battling testicular cancer.

Phaneron

Correction: Actually it does close fully, it's not a pie iron that squeezes close, someone is inside of that.

Corrected entry: White Goodman tells Michel to add three pounds to the scales in the women's locker room, and while that's intended to show that he's a greedy, unscrupulous jerk, it wouldn't help his bottom line at all. The women using the locker room are already members paying monthly fees, and White doesn't make any more money if they choose to work out longer. (00:10:20)

Correction: Most gyms have different levels of membership, so the women may choose to work out more often or sign up to fitness classes that they aren't currently paying for. Alternatively, it just shows what a complete idiot White actually is.

Corrected entry: In the scene where Peter's winnings are wheeled out to him and he says "Right on time, I appreciate it, thank you boys", a boom mike operator can be seen in the back. He is also visible in other parts of the scene.

Correction: The game is being filmed for television. This operator could easily be part of the TV crew.

Corrected entry: Peter bets the $100,000 on the 50:1 odds that was placed on his team to win. But after he took the $100,000, he was about to quit his team altogether. Why would he bet the money if he had no intention to play? Even if his team still could have played, it's chances of winning would be considerably lower. Also, after Peter had a change of heart, he had to rush to get back to the tournament, having no time to invest that money in between.

Correction: It is implied that he bet the money AFTER hearing about the 50:1 odds and talking with Lance Armstrong. He could have called a bookie on the way to the tournament or just taken more time. He did just BARELY show up.

Corrected entry: During one of the Las Vegas scenes, Cotton McKnight states that it's the 1999 International Dodgeball Competition. Peter listens to his messages at the start of the movie and it says that 2 pornos and Sweet Home Alabama are overdue. Sweet Home Alabama was released in 2002, 3 years later.

Correction: He actually says that it is Mona Lisa Smile, released in 2003. Also while 1999 is mentioned, it is actually in reference to the founding year of ESPN 8 "The OCHO"

Corrected entry: In the scene where White is trying to bribe Peter with $100,000, he sits the briefcase on the table and opens it. The money is right in the middle of the case. It's not secured in any way, so surely it should have been at bottom end of the case.

Correction: The foam padding in that type of case is designed to press against whatever is in the case to hold it in place.

Corrected entry: When White is in his office with the donut, there is one light above him which is focused on him. Yet after Michelle walks in, there is light everywhere. Nobody touched any light switches.

Correction: When Michelle opens the door to the office, you can see the lights fade on. The lights must be activated by a switch in the doorway or something similar.

Corrected entry: Rawson Marshall Thurber, the director of the movie, plays the cheerleader that is with Amber when Justin sees her in Vegas.

T Poston

Correction: The cheerleader that is with Amber when Justin sees her in Vegas is named Derek. According to the credits, Derek is played by Trever O'Brien.

Corrected entry: When Justin is playing solo in the game against Globo Gym, Blade throws a ball and it actually hits him but the announcer says he dodged it. (01:16:20)

Toolio

Correction: The ball actually hits the plexiglass fence behind him, but it did get very close.

Corrected entry: At the start, Kate tells Peter he is in debt but just before she says that she calls him Vince, which is the actor's real name - Vince Vaughan.

Correction: In that scene, the only time Kate uses Peter's name is when she calls him "Mr. LaFleur". She does not call him Vince.

Corrected entry: At the end, past all of the credits, White starts singing and dancing to "Milkshake" by Kelis. He should not have been able to play this song because it is 1993, and that song didn't come out until ten years later.

Correction: The following is the second correction on the corrections page. [The commercial that Vince is watching states that it's six years later - that doesn't mean the film was set then too.] The film is set in 2004, proof of this is Lance Armstrong talking about his cancer near the end.

moviemogul

Corrected entry: Dodgeball begins with Ben Stiller looking back to his overweight self in 1987, then states that it is six years later. So the story is supposed to be taking place in 1993. Yet, when Vince Vaughan is sulking in a bar and Lance Armstrong scolds him that he must also have a possibly terminal disease because Armstrong didn't give up when he had testicular, brain and another cancer and he went on to win five Tours de France in spite of this. Armstrong won his fifth Tour in 2003. What's ten years to make a point, right?

Correction: The commercial that Vince is watching states that it's six years later - that doesn't mean the film was set then too.

Toolio

Corrected entry: When Kate goes to Peter's hotel room looking for him after he has checked out, she opens the door without the use of a key. The door is shut completely, so that means that it should only open if one had a key. So how does Kate open the door?

Correction: If you look at thr door when Kate opens it, you can see a key in the door on Kate's side.

Corrected entry: When Average Joes is playing Troop 417 for the Sub-regional qualifier, Justin slides way over the line. He should be out for that, but a few seconds later he is still in the game and playing.

Correction: As you can tell by the lack of both team and audience attendance, nobody really cares about that game. They're not bothering to enforce the rules.

Corrected entry: White Goodman gets angry and smacks a dodgeball into Kate's face, leaving a huge red mark on her cheek. But a couple of minutes later when the sudden-death sequence starts, the mark is gone.

Correction: Those balls leave a temporary mark that disappears quickly. it's the equivalent of getting slapped, its red only for a moment or two.

Corrected entry: In the scene where Kate comes to talk to White at the gym, we see him sit on a glass desk as he is talking to her. The table buckles underneath his weight, and every time he gets up then sits back down, it moves again, revealing its most likely a plastic of some sort.

Correction: Why is this a goof? It's a plastic desk. This isn't a goof, it's just cheap furniture.

Corrected entry: During the World Championship Tournament, one of the players of Average Joe's Gym fires off a shot straight down the court and hits a spectator in the head. Before the incident and after it, there are protective barriers to stop the crowd being hit. Where did the barrier disappear to?

Correction: It is not a straight shot but a cross court shot and the barriers do not cover the sides of the court, only the ends. It is very possible for the balls to leave the court.

Serrabowler

Corrected entry: After Average Joe's win their first match, the famous, old dodgeball player gives his 'lucky scarf' to Peter. In any other scene following at the tournament, the dodgeball pro is still wearing the scarf until we see it again in the very end as a blindfold.

Correction: What you think is the scarf is his white shirt he is wearing. The scarf is not around his neck after he gives it away.

Serrabowler

Corrected entry: In the scene at Average Joe's Gym when Christine Taylor stops a dodge ball that rolls on the floor with her foot and then throws the ball, she is wearing heels. As the Globo Gym guy reviews the hidden camera tape of the same incident, Christine is wearing tennis shoes.

Correction: Ive watched this movie 4 times, and they never show her feet in the security footage, nor in the hard copy prints.

Continuity mistake: When the guys are all sitting around (after the car wash) they are throwing ideas to save the gym. In one shot Gordon pulls his magazine out of his bag, but a split second later in a closer shot he pulls the magazine out again. (00:15:15)

Question: There's a guy in the bleachers with Gordon's wife during a championship game. He looks a lot like David Hasselhoff, but it's not. I was wondering if anyone knew who it was.

Answer: It's just a random guy in the bleachers, his hair is too light, and he is at least 20 years younger than David Hasselhoff.
