Bruce Almighty

Trivia: In Egypt, the film was banned by the state-run censorship body because it felt the comedy mocks God's sacredness.

Trivia: The monkey that Jim Carrey makes come out of the one guy's butt is the monkey from Ace Ventura, Spike. (00:40:35)

Trivia: The original number used for God in the movie was 776-2323, with no area code. After the film was released, people in different areas using that number received calls from people wanting to talk to God. The number was changed to 555-0123 for the DVD release.

Trivia: The telephone number that "God" pages Bruce with (only in the original cinema release - it was changed for the DVD) was a real number in a few different parts of the US - a few businesses and one residential (known of to date). It was also valid in Manchester, UK.

Trivia: Notice how Bruce's girlfriend is called Grace- there are many biblical references which talk about "By the grace of God."

Trivia: Towards the end of the movie when Bruce is walking through the burning town, if you look closely at the town, it is Hill Valley, the town in Back to the Future, complete with clock tower.

Trivia: Towards the end of the movie when Bruce and God are mopping the floor, God says "Alrighty then," one of Jim Carrey's (Bruce) signature lines from his "Ace Ventura" films, also directed by the director of "Bruce Almighty."

Trivia: Jennifer Aniston's character was not originally a preschool teacher. Jim Carrey requested that the script be changed because his real-life girlfriend at the time was a preschool teacher.

Trivia: At the party where Bruce ends up kissing a woman, check out what he's leaning on: a golden calf. The golden calf in the Bible was the object the Israelites worshiped in Mount Sinai while Moses went up to receive the Ten Commandments and the Law from God.

Trivia: During a deleted scene (Jack meets Anita) on the American DVD (and possibly in an earlier part of the film) the sign above Anita's Diner reads, "Try the Sole." This is a nice little joke playing on words kind of like the Homeless Man's signs.

Trivia: UK DVD: Because they had to change the number that beeped Bruce's pager, when he says 'Hello 555 0123' when he is woken up by the beeper it is not Jim Carrey's voice and has been overdubbed.

Trivia: Number seven comes a lot of times in this movie. When Bruce is testing God the last number of fingers he shows is seven. The number of his apartment is 304 or 7 if you add the numbers up. He is working on Channel 7. When Bruce enters the Omni Presents building, the sign downstairs says everything is on the 7th floor. And God tells him to be back to help him with the cleaning on 7th at 7 o'clock. Seven in the Bible is the symbolism of perfection or completeness.

Trivia: At the party in honor of Bruce becoming a news anchor, look closely as he's walking up the stairs, he really is pouring water into wine. This is loosely based on John 2:1-10, where Jesus ordered the servants in a wedding to pour water into jars, so the water can turn into wine.

Trivia: After Bruce decides he's unhappy with his car, he turns it into a Saleen S7, one of the fastest production cars in the world at the time. That was actually Jim Carrey's own Saleen.

Trivia: When Bruce has his new-found powers, and he goes into the diner - as he walks in, notice the paying customer - it's adult star Ron Jeremy.

Other mistake: Early in the film, Jim Carrey is watching TV during a sports segment. He is watching Channel 7, the station he works for. This clip they showed was of actual WKBW sports director John Murphy. The clip they showed was taken directly from a real WKBW newscast, with the authentic news set, and graphics. However, when they show a clip of Ch. 7 News later, there are completely different graphics, and a completely different news set, both made for the movie.

Question: In the film they find Jimmy Hoffa's body, but who is he? I've never heard of him.

Answer: Hoffa was the powerful and controversial leader of the Teamsters Union from 1957 to 1971. Often alleged to have ties to organized crime, Hoffa was convicted of fraud and jury tampering in 1964 and served four years in prison before his sentence was commuted by President Nixon. In 1975, while trying to regain power in the union, Hoffa disappeared from Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. He was widely assumed to have been killed by the Mafia. His body was never found, and in 1983 he was declared legally dead. Many movies joke of this, because to this day, his body has not been recovered.
