Trivia: John Wayne had been wanting to do this picture for years but he could not get any backing. He finally used his own money and he felt the financial setback for years, because the picture did not do as well as expected. Duke would always say that he had to continue to work and make pictures to survive. He was nowhere near broke, but to keep up his lifestyle he worked almost to his death.

Trivia: The final battle took four days to film in December of 1959. It cost was 2 million dollars.

Trivia: Lisa Dickerson is played by John Wayne's real life youngest daughter Aissa, who was 3 in 1959. When she had to say hello or goodbye to Davy Crockett, she kept saying "Hello Daddy" or "Goodbye Daddy." Her lines had to be dubbed in later.

Trivia: The scene where Crockett and Bowie and others go into a church and find gunpowder and rifles was filmed by "guest" director John Ford. He had shown up and was asked by Wayne to do a number of scenes.

Trivia: Listen carefully when everyone is singing "Happy Birthday" to the Dickinsons' daughter. They call her Lisa, but you can hear one voice sing, "Happy birthday, dear Aissa." Aissa is John Wayne's daughter, who is playing "Lisa" Angelina Dickinson. (00:20:05)

Factual error: After the first attack, Travis asked Dickerson to report the killed. Dickerson says "13 Killed." In fact no defender of the Alamo was killed until the last battle on March 6.
