Continuity mistake: When the school bus is leaving Pacific Tech, the name "Southridge" is painted directly on the front of the bus. When Dr. Forrester finds the wrecked vehicles in the city later in the film, the name "Southridge" is now painted on a separate wooden sign that he picks up.

In the climactic final scenes, the Martians have been wreaking havoc on Earth, obliterating cities and decimating humanity with their advanced weaponry. However, scientists and military forces manage to discover a vulnerability in the alien invaders. It is revealed that the Martians cannot tolerate Earth's bacteria and microorganisms, as they have no immunity to them.
Armed with this knowledge, the military develops a plan to exploit the Martians' vulnerability. They distribute a serum or bacterium across the Earth's atmosphere, enabling it to be carried by the wind. As the Martians continue their onslaught, the air becomes filled with the deadly bacteria, which the aliens unknowingly inhale and succumb to.The Martian war machines, unable to combat the microscopic threat, begin to collapse and disintegrate. One by one, the towering tripods fall, their reign of terror coming to an end. The film concludes with the triumph of humanity as the Martians are defeated and their invasion is thwarted.

Trivia: The Flying Wing used to drop the atomic bomb on the Martians was the YB-49, an experimental bomber discontinued in 1950, three years before this movie was made. By the time the movie came out all YB-49s had been scrapped.
