Continuity mistake: At various points throughout the movie, the position of the lamp on the end table (to Charlie's left where he usually sits on the couch) changes, from the base being in the back corner, to mid-way along the chair's arm, to being centered along the rear edge, to near the middle of the table, etc. As the lamp's position changes, the other objects on the table also change. I saw this film just a few hours ago, and I still almost don't even know exactly what to say. Darren Aronofsky's "The Whale," based on the play by Samuel D. Hunter, was an utterly unique experience for me. It was both delightful and grotesque. Inspiring and devastating. It was a thing of terrible, terrible beauty. And I was enthralled from start to finish.
I will update this review when I have had a chance to see it again. But it is not only a perfect five out of five for me... it may very well be my favorite film of 2022. And I say that as a man who has struggled with my weight my whole life and was apprehensive about this film at times.
Suggested correction: "At various points throughout the movie" so he moved his lamp. If the shots aren't consecutive (screenshot, please) this is not a continuity error.
Trivia: Although he was nominated for the Golden Globe Best Actor in Drama (in The Whale), Brendan Fraser chose not to attend the Golden Globe Awards, as he alleges that in 2003 he was sexually assaulted by a member of the Hollywood Foreign Press, the body behind the Globes' nomination and voting processes. That incident, along with some health issues, largely derailed his acting career.
