Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle

Spencer and Martha avoid the jaguars and head for the mountain summit, but Martha gets stuck in a nest of snakes (one of her weaknesses in the game is that she is allergic to snake venom). The villain thinks he has her cornered but she sacrifices her last spare life and as she is regenerated and falls down from the sky she manages to pass the jewel to Spencer. He returns the jewel to the mountain top and wins the game. The villain disintegrates.

The gamers are returned to the real world, except for Alex who has vanished. They walk past Alex's dilapidated old house and find it has been restored to a well cared for home decorated for Christmas with his dad looking happy. Alex arrives grown up with his family, as he was returned to 1996 as if he had never been away. Alex's oldest daughter is named after Bethany.

Spencer and Fridge become friends again. Bethany is less vain and more caring, and plans to go backpacking. Martha and Spencer get together. They all stay friends because they survived the game together, and Fridge destroys the Jumanji game to stop anyone playing it again.

Question: Is the villain Russel Van Pelt the son or nephew of the hunter Van Pelt from the first movie?

Answer: The Van Pelt seen in the sequel is a 're-imagined' version of Van Pelt due to the fact that Jumanji has evolved to become a video game, rather than a board game.

Same character, alternate universe.
