Trivia: This is reportedly the final film of the DCEU. Warner Bros. opted to start over because of dwindling fan enthusiasm and diminishing box office returns, and brought in director James Gunn of Guardians of the Galaxy fame to shepherd in a new franchise.

Trivia: This film features appearances from WWE alumni John Cena and Dwayne Johnson. There used to be real-life acrimony between the two, as Cena was critical of Johnson for leaving the WWE to pursue a film career, alleging he abandoned his fans and the business he claimed to love. Cena would later apologize for this disposition after pursuing a film career of his own, acknowledging that he didn't make the effort to view things from Johnson's perspective.
Trivia: This film will actually have the shortest amount of time elapsed between installments, releasing around 2 years and 4 months after Ghostbusters: Afterlife. Ghostbusters 2 released 5 years after the original film, the 2016 film released 27 years after Ghostbusters 2, and Ghostbusters: Afterlife released 5 years after the 2016 film.
Trivia: The way Donna attempts to get the bus stopped is a direct nod to the 1994 movie Speed. The bus driver is even named Sam, the same as the driver in that film.
Trivia: When Flikerman cancels his dinner reservation, he tells the restaurant "two, and a high chair," a reference to his son Caesar, the future host of the Hunger Games.
Trivia: According to behind the scenes featurettes, James Hong's father owns a noodle shop. Hong voices Po's father, Mr. Ping, who also owns a noodle shop.
Trivia: Luca's train ticket to Genova shows his seat number as A113. That was the number of the character animation classroom at California Institute of the Arts. It appears in every Pixar film. (01:21:40)
Trivia: The actor playing new IMF agent "India Zulu 254" is Alex James-Phelps - possibly a deliberate casting choice given a main character in the series and original film is called Jim Phelps.
Trivia: Robert Downey Jr. declared this was "the best film I've ever been in" at the UK premiere.
Trivia: In the scene where Fiona starts to cry, many bubbles can be seen to fall from the sky. In one of them is Fairy Godmother. This is a reference to The Good Witch in The Wizard of Oz.
Trivia: The movie came about partially thanks to the "Super Nintendo World" theme parks. As the Nintendo World parks were to be situated in Universal Studios theme parks, Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto met many Universal executives, including Illumination CEO Chris Meledandri, to discuss the park's creation. Miyamoto felt Meledandri was a kindred spirit due to their similar creative processes and began talking with him about making a new Mario movie. Within a few years, the project was greenlit.
