Other mistake: The objective of the band is a cache of gold hidden some years ago in the firebox of a wrecked locomotive in the wilds of Northern Mexico. When they finally dig the firebox door out and open it, the strongbox is sitting inside a completely clean firebox, with nary a cinder, ash, or chunk of burned wood in sight. If the loco and cars had been abandoned after the derailment, there would still have been residue in the firebox.
Continuity mistake: As Charlie Brown, Patty, and Marcie are talking, the grandfather clock strikes four. Trouble is the pendulum is stuck in place, first on one side, then the other. It doesn't swing.
Continuity mistake: The attachment to the minisub is inconsistent. It is an open hook first then as it's being lifted it becomes an enclosed shackle looking quite different. Plus a figure now appears on the roof. Ben Gazzara has just gone below. (00:57:42)

Continuity mistake: For the infamous closing scene, a van of drug-runners fire a double-barrelled 12-gauge shotgun straight into the windscreen of Officer Wintergreen's Electra Glide motorcycle, killing him. In the full front view, the gunfire virtually explodes the windscreen, shattering it on all sides all the way to the frame. Camera cuts to a side view and we see Wintergreen topple off as the motorcycle keeps traveling down the road. In this profile shot, the windscreen is no longer exploded, but now has a neat 4-inch hole in it.
Continuity mistake: When the prisoners in the confinement holes talk clinging from the bars at the top, Jim Brown's hands are one bar apart in the overhead shot, 2 bars in close-ups. (00:00:50)

Continuity mistake: Victor Pivert is in full road rage mode as he is waiting at a road stop after skipping most of the line speeding through the emergency lane. As he bickers with his French compatriot, he hammers his horn initially with the right hand, then after a pause he starts hitting it with his left hand in a side view, which turns instantly into his right hand at the cut. Continuity mistake: When Shaft arrives in Addis Ababa, the first close-up on Richard Roundtree shows a man with a hat behind him. No men with hats are behind him in the opening shot of the plane ladder, nor the following. (00:31:05)
