The Full Monty picture

Question: Why does the alarm go off when Dave puts the Pick-n-Mix in his mouth and then stop when he steps on it?

Answer: It's a sight gag. Dave's essentially stealing the candy, so the alarm goes off. When he crushes it, the alarm stops. It wouldn't really happen, but it's funny that the alarm stops when he removes the candy.

Selena picture

Question: Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but the credits show that Panchito Gomez played young Abraham. I've seen Panchito Gomez in 80's movies such as Tuff Turf and he doesn't resemble at all the actor playing young Abraham. However, he DOES resemble the gentleman in the cowboy hat who stiffs Abraham money for Selena's performance and says "She's just a woman." I always wondered if the credits made a mistake. Anyone know?

Answer: Looking at the credits on IMDB it does show that Panchito Gomez played young Abraham in Selena as well as the role in Tuff Turf. Given that 12 years had passed between the two movies, it's possible that Panchito had gotten older and didn't look like he was when he was 22 compared to mid 30s.

The Phantom of the Opera picture

Question: In this version the Phantom was a highly gifted composer, who, as a grown adult, was horribly disfigured in an accident. Much of the Hammer version centres on the performance of the Phantom's masterpiece, an opera about Joan Of Arc, segments of which are shown during the film. I am not an expert on opera, but it seemed to me that the Phantom's musical take on the Joan Of Arc legend was one of the dullest musical performances I have ever seen, consisting of perfectly ordinary (and uninspiring) dialogue, sung on a single (and rather monotonous) octave. (Imagine some people who can't sing very well singing the text of a second rate historical novel.) Did anybody else who saw this little known film of the classic horror story have any opinion on the Joan Of Arc opera?

Rob Halliday

Answer: This is a British low-budget version of the classic book. Due to its financial restraints, there was less concern about producing a factual or high-quality fictional opera. It is only a backdrop to the story.

Black Snake Moan picture

Question: What is the significance of Rae repeating what Lazarus's ex wife said at the beginning of the film, "See if I give a s**t about all you people"? Is this to suggest that the two met or what? I don't get it. Could someone explain it to me?

Answer: No, it's just a phrase they both blurt out when they are angry. However, for the audience watching (us), it foreshadows the similarities between Rae's and Lazarus' lives that makes them connect so well.

Cats picture

Question: What is the story behind Grizabella? Why do the other cats seem to hate her and shun her?

Answer: It's a bit vague, but when Grizabella was young, she left the other Jellicle cats, turning her back on them to live another life, thinking she was more glamorous than the others. Now that she is older and has fallen on hard times, she returns, wanting to rejoin the tribe. The other cats are resentful that she considered herself better than them, and they are put off by her shabby appearance, so do not want her back.

A Star Is Born picture

Question: At the beginning when they meet she sings a few lines of Shallow, then presumably the next day at his show he brings her onstage, and they sing the whole song with the band and all...how is this possible with zero rehearsal time?

Answer: It is highly improbable they could do this, but being a movie, reality is suspended.

Copying Beethoven picture

Question: Why was Beethoven depicted as an obnoxious, rude and unlikable man in this movie? I read that in the real life he wasn't such a bad person.

Answer: It's a fictional version of Beethoven. Artistic license is used to enhance the drama by embellishing Beethoven's personality, likely to show his anger, frustration, and despondency over becoming deaf. Like many similar biographical movies, it is not meant to be an accurate portrait.

Yesterday picture

Question: If there was no Beatles, where did the toy yellow submarine come from?

Answer: Believe it or not, the Beatles did not invent the idea that a submarine could be yellow, and yellow toy submarines were sold for children to play with.

Answer: It is just a toy submarine molded or repainted in yellow. Only the 'stalker' fans know the reference to the Beatles song.

Answer: I think it was so those 2 people that knew of the Beatles could prove they knew the Beatles song, since presumably that was a song Jack forgot about.

Answer: None of these answers explain why it's shaped the same as the submarine from "yellow submarine." It's a specific shape that didn't exist before the Beatles, so shouldn't exist.

Hannah Montana: The Movie picture

Question: During the revolving door scene, how was Miley able to redo Hannah's make-up over and over again when it took so long for her to do it at the start of the movie before the concert?

curiouskid

Chosen answer: During a concert, a lot of makeup is used to show through the bright lighting. In this case, Miley may have needed little to no makeup. Also, since Travis is shown asking for the check and Miley goes back and forth so much, it may have taken her a long time, which is why she had to run off every time she got to the restaurant after a few seconds.

The Boat That Rocked picture

Question: When the boat first starts sinking, some nameless crew members are shown trying to sort things out. But I don't remember them appearing again, even when the DJs were being rescued. Did they drown?

Josman

Chosen answer: They can be seen in a couple of long shots of the ship's prow as the DJs shelter there. It's reasonable to assume, given that they were present when the rescue flotilla arrived, that they were picked up as well, just off-screen while the film focused on the main characters.
