Factual error: The wolves in this movie must be some sort of mutant super wolf. North American Grey wolves are not lion sized killing machines. They are typically smaller, by weight, than an average German Shepherd.

Everyone except Ottway dies trying to make it to the river. After walking on his own for a bit, he appears to give up. He looks through the photos in the wallets of the dead men and places his note among them. He looks up to realize he's wandered right into the wolves' den. His final flashback reveals his wife was hooked up to an IV tube. Ottway tapes broken airplane alcohol bottles and the knife to his hands and faces the Alpha wolf. He rushes at it and the screen cuts to black. After the credits, the Alpha wolf is seen breathing with Ottway's hand on it in the same way as the wolf that he killed at the beginning. It is unclear if he survived the fight.
