Other mistake: When they are in San Francisco, notice the pianist. The keys he presses don't correspond with the notes he's supposedly playing. It's a little bit obvious that the music was recorded in advance.

Phileas Fogg bets half his fortune against other members of the Reform Club he can travel around the world in 80 days or less. He leaves with his valet, is followed by a detective who believes Fogg robbed the Bank of England, and picks up an Indian Princess along the way. He believes he lost the bet (and spent the other half of his fortune during the journey), but forgot that since he travelled east, he picked up a day. He arrives at the Reform Club with seconds to spare, and wins his bet.

Sir Francis Gromarty: One thousand pounds for an elephant? It's outrageous! You've been diddled.
Phileas Fogg: Undoubtedly. But it's not often one needs an elephant in a hurry.
Trivia: There was no balloon in Jules Verne's book. Thank to this film, most people now can't imagine "Around the World in 80 Days" without the balloon. (Gas balloon, not a hot air balloon as most people think).
