The Mask of Zorro plot summary
Diego de la Veiga (Anthony Hopkins) is a don who fights his own kind in the guise of Zorro, the peoples' hero. When he is discovered by his enemy Montero, his wife Esperanza is accidentally shot by a guard and he is arrested, his baby daughter Elena stolen by Montero and taken back to Spain.
Years pass and Montero returns. He first scours the prisons looking for his enemy, but de la Veiga is so changed he doesn't recognise him. de la Veiga then breaks free and goes to kill Montero only to see his lovely daughter (Catherine Zeta Jones) grown up, stilling his hand. Instead he stops a reckless young man Alejandro (Antonio Banderas) from killing Captain Love, the man who murdered his brother, in favour of training him as the next Zorro.
Alejandro hones his skill and works his way into Montero's trusted circle, also falling in love with Elena. When de la Veiga is captured, he must reveal him true identity to his daughter and count on his protege to save the day.
