Inglourious Basterds (2009) ending / spoiler
After strangling Bridget von Hammersmark (Diane Kruger) for being a spy, Colonel Landa (Christoph Waltz) captures Raine (Brad Pitt) and Utivich (B.J. Novak) and takes them to a secluded building, intentionally leaving Ulmer and Donowitz (Omar Doom and Eli Roth) in the theatre with the bombs on their legs. He explains to Raine that to end the war, he is willing to let the German high command be destroyed, and will let Raine take him into custody in exchange for total immunity from war crimes and a home in America. He even puts the bombs from Raine's legs under Hitler's seat in the balcony. Raine agrees and they strike a deal over a radio to an OSS commander. Meanwhile, Shosanna (Mélanie Laurent) waits for the film to end to unleash her revenge on the theatre full of Nazis, including Hitler himself (Martin Wuttke). Zoller (Daniel Brühl) enters the room. He confronts her, and she tells him to lock the door. When he turns his back, she pulls out a pistol and shoots him. When she goes over to his limp body, he rolls over and shoots her in return. Both of them die. Marcel (Jacky Ido) sets fire to the film at the back of the screen, as Shosanna's addition to the Nazi film comes on. Her face fills the screen as she tells everyone in the theatre that they are about to die. "And I want you to look deep into the face of the *Jew* that is going to do it!" As the flame eats through the screen and into the room, the patrons run towards the doors that had already been barracaded by Marcel. Donowitz and Ulmer kill the guards at the doors to the balcony, then burst in with machine guns and blast apart Hitler, Goebbels (Sylvester Groth), and Francesca Mondino (Julie Dreyfus). Shooting their bodies to pieces, they then turn their attention to the panicking audience of Nazis, spraying them with bullets as they try run from the flames toward the doors. The bombs underneath them explode, killing Donowitz, Ulmer, and everyone in the theatre. In a forest outside the city, Raine and Utivich put Landa in handcuffs, then kill and scalp his bodyguard. As a final bit of justice, knowing Landa will spend the rest of his life hiding out in America, they hold him down and carve a swastika into his forehead with a knife. Raine remarks "This may be my finest work yet."
