One night Ennis is sleeping Jack's camp and the temperature drops down to freezing. Jack inviotes Ennis to sleep in his tent and that begins the strat of their long love affair. Although Ennis is engaged to be married, so when their hearding jod is done they go back to the way their lives were before they met. Ennis gets married to Alma and they have two daughters. Jack marries Lureen a rodeo queen who is also the daughter of a wealthy farm equipment dealer. The two men meet up every summer on Brokeback Mountain and continue their affair for over 20 years.

Continuity mistake: When Ennis brings Alma Jr. and Jennie to Alma at the Supermarket, Alma Jr. grabs a jar of peanuts off the end display. This causes a group of jars to come crashing down, breaking glass and causing peanuts and glass to fly all over. Alma squats down to the floor to help pick up the broken jars and peanuts, but when Alma bends back up and goes to bring the girls to the front of the store, all the jars that had crashed and broken on the end display shelf are now upright and whole before anyone had had the time to pick them all up. Trivia: In the Middle East, a censored version of the movie was released that eliminated all of the homosexual content. The result apparently didn't make any sense at all as the scenes were important plot points.

Question: Why did Lureen lie to Ennis about how Jack died?

Answer: Lureen may have been lied to about how Jack died. As a kid, Ennis had seen the body of a man that was killed for being gay. Knowing that Jack was 'seeing' other men, Ennis knew that he must have been killed for that reason instead of the way that Lureen explained it. Even if she did know the truth, she may have lied to him because she didn't want Ennis to know how Jack really died.
