Feeling used after discovering that Jack is getting married in a week, Stephanie furiously clobbers him with her bike helmet and breaks his nose. He hooks up next with an overweight waitress. When her enraged husband catches them in bed, Jack flees, leaving behind his wallet with the wedding rings in it. He persuades Miles to go back and get it. Miles sneaks into the house and finds the wallet on the bedroom dresser. Miles is caught by the husband,runs to his car and he and Jack speed off. To explain his broken nose to his fiancé, Jack deliberately crashes Miles' car so it will look like they’ve been in an accident. At Jack's wedding, Miles runs into his ex-wife, Victoria, who is happily remarried and pregnant, which further depresses Miles. Later, he gets a message from Maya on his answering machine saying she really likes his novel and hopes it gets published. She also tells him she’ll be finishing her Master’s degree soon and may be moving, but she hopes Miles will call. Miles drives to Maya's place and knocks on the door.
