Open Water plot summary
Daniel and Susan are a yuppy couple vacationing in the Carribean. They are both scuba divers, and they sign up for a sightseeing dive trip. While they are in the water, other divers climb in and out of the boat. The crew attempts to keep track of everyone, but they end up counting two of the other divers twice. Convinced that they have everyone accounted for, they depart for shore. Susan and Daniel surface from their dive to find themselves abandoned. While their floatation equipment allows them to stay at the surface, they have no food or fresh water, or any hope of reaching land unaided.
The action of the movie cuts back and forth from them, stranded, to the shore. They speculate that help will come soon, but in fact, no-one even knows they are missing. They attempt to flag passing ships and airplanes, without success. Sharks begin to gather, and they attempt to stave off their rising sense of panic. Finally, after two days, the owner of the dive boat discovers their belongings stowed on the boat and begins making inquiries. But will he be able to sound the alarm in time...?
