Double Indemnity ending / spoiler
Walter (Fred MacMurray) kills Phyllis (Barbara Stanwyck) because he's jealous, doesn't want to be in the crime anymore and his boss Keyes (Edward G. Robinson) is suspicious. He tells Keyes the truth and since he (Walter) was shot by Phyllis, Keyes calls an ambulance. Walter collapses as he's heading out of the office and Keyes lights a cigarette for him. Alternate ending: Walter goes to the gas chamber.
