Ending / spoiler

(6 votes)

The riot leader has Lieutenant Harris held hostage on top of a building. Mahoney tries to save him, but ends up being held hostage too. They are saved by the surprise reappearance of Hightower, who punches the riot leader down a flight of stairs, where he is held at bay by Hooks, who finally finds her shouting voice. Barbara beats up the four guys from the beginning of the movie who threw his film stand into the river. Tackleberry gets pissed that he missed the shooting. At the academy graduation ceremony, Hightower and Mahoney receive a special heroism award, and Mahoney is visited by the podium hooker during his acceptance speech, which ends the movie. As an aside, as they are trying to escape the rioters, Copeland and Blanks duck into a back alley door, and it ends up being the Blue Oyster again.

Police Academy mistake picture

Continuity mistake: At the start of the film, Mahoney is wearing a white shirt with badges on it from the company he works for. When he's being interrogated by Sgt. Reed the shirt remains the same until the last part of the scene. The camera stays on Mahoney and we can see that the badges on the shirt are gone. If you look closely, you will notice that he is even wearing a completely different white shirt, which now looks more scruffy and creased. (00:08:00)

Question: Why did Mahoney get a medal at the end? All he did was run up a building and got himself taken hostage. Hightower deserved his cause he knocked the guy out, saved Harris and Mahoney and defused the situation. Even if it was for bravery or heroism, Mahoney achieved nothing with his actions and shouldn't have been rewarded.

Gavin Jackson

Chosen answer: Just because you fail in your attempt at heroics doesn't mean you weren't brave as hell for trying. Mahoney knowingly put himself in a very dangerous situation with the sole intent of saving two of his fellow officers. That's bravery.
