Breaking the Waves ending / spoiler
Bess goes onto the ship and kills herself thinking Jan is dead, but Jan miraculously recovers. When her body is being buried, there is sand in the coffin, as Jan had removed her body, which he dumps in the sea. Bells start to ring in the morning from heaven.
